Smiling at the Captan’s poetic side, Cori slipped off Lacey and led the mare towards the shore. “I used to sneak away here when things got really stressful. Especially after my parents died. I never spent a lot of time on or in the water, but a good many hours spent on the beach. Usually reading and studying. I wasn’t going to get into Starfleet by my pointe shoes,” she said with a grin.

“Oh I don’t know about that,” Dante laughed, “plenty of Starfleet Admirals make a career by dancing around a stage looking good.” He came to a stop a few feet from the water line and looked out over the ocean. “You know, no matter what world I’m on the sea never changes. It might change colour, maybe the smell, but the sound is always the same. I can close my eyes and imagine I am anywhere in the galaxy just by the sound of the ocean.” He looked at one of the shells he had picked up and ran his thumb over it, then flipped it so the curve was on the top. Drawing his arm back, he threw the shell forwards and the air caught underneath the curve, lifting the shell high on the breeze where it hung for moments, before dropping back down again with a plop into the waves.

She smiled softly. There were a few universal things, at least for bipedal humanoids, and the musical sound of the world around them was one of them.

“Always the same,” he grinned. “If there is any better counselor or listener than the sea, I have yet to find one. I can understand why you came here back then, even now. As a boy I did much the same back home, be it a lake or the ocean.”

“I miss it sometimes,” Corinne admitted. “This particular place, I mean. Ajilon. But I’ve not been able to go back. Too hard. At least on the holodeck I can use my own memories to create programs like this. Another perk to the holographic life. Whatever I wish can be created. Within limits, of course,” she said Lacey nudged her, making Cori laugh lightly and rub the mare’s muzzle.

Dante inspected another shell, then flipped this one curve side down before he threw it low. Watching it skim the surface, he counted the bounces before it dropped below the waves. “I miss the lakes and oceans of my youth,” he said, then shrugged. “That is all a memory of the past, my life now is about going forward and discovering new things. It’s nice to remember, even experienced it again sometimes but it is the past.” He looked across to Dalton and dropped the other shells he collected on the ground, wiping his hands on his shirt to get the sand off. “What kind of limits do you have?” He asked her, then glanced around, “for your creations I mean.”
