USS Saracen
Starbase - Arrival of the Counselor
Sinclair sat at a small coffee shop that overlooked the Promenade and the huge windows that framed the side of the station where ships came to dock. As he sat reading a PaDD, his commbadge chirped and a voice said =/\= Lieutenant Commander Sinclair, this is Station Flight Control. You requested notice when the Saracen was about to arrive, Sir. She is five minutes out, Sir. =/\= Sinclair set the PaDD down on the table and tapped his badge. =/\= Acknowledged. Thank you. =/\= He slid the PaDD to the side and watched as his new assignment came into view.
Sinclair was nervous, truth be told. He had only recently been made a Counselor. Prior to that, he had been Chief of Security on the Academy vessel Challenger. His new role, and the new rank that went with it, was something he was still getting used to when he had received orders that he was to transfer off Challenger immediately. He hadn’t even had time to say goodbye to the crew, as he got the orders right when his shuttle had arrived. From the time he had first read the orders to the time he boarded the shuttle with all his possessions, less than three hours had passed.
That had been a week ago. He had traveled first to SF Headquarters, received his clearances and travel orders, and checked out of the Academy. He did take two days and went home to Scotland for the first time since leaving to go to the Academy. He left to rendezvous with the Saracen from the port at Inverness. Forty-eight hours later, and he arrived at the station. He was placed in visiting officer’s quarters, and spent the time between then and now familiarizing himself with the Saracen’s layout. She was a much different vessel from his previous post, but that excited Sinclair.
At that moment, he saw the ship slowly moving into it’s docking berth. Scooping up the PaDD and a brown leather bag sitting on the floor beside him, the large man made his way slowly to the Saracen. He watched as the ship was made ready for the first wave of crew to leave the ship and enjoy some time off, and he didn’t get in their way, merely nodded and smiled at the few that saw him standing off to the side and came to attention at the sight of the unknown Lieutenant Commander. During a break in the flow of personnel, Sinclair made his way up the docking arm and stopped at the Security officer who was on duty at the hatch who cam to attention as Sinclair approached.
“At ease, Ensign. I’m Lieutenant Commander Sinclair, reporting for duty.” and he handed the PaDD to her for her review. “Aye, Sir. One moment, please.” and she tapped a few commands into her station terminal and then said “Of course, Commander. You are expected. If you would please report to the Captain as soon as possible, Sir?” she half-asked-half-stated. “Absolutely, Ensign. Thank you.” and Sinclair made his way into the ship.
