Jarred stared, almost blankly at her, she had spunk and certainly amused him even if she mistook his “on my crew” as meaning in Engineering vs just on the Saracen as a member of the crew in general. Despite her misunderstanding she was delightful to say the least, even if she stole his doughnut. “Well, that’s all good and well sweetie, but… you STILL have not told me anything to do with just what you are building. I like you Kalini, you have spunk and you seem fun as hell to boot. I am not though going to green light anything until you can give me an honest answer. Pretty smile and feminine wiles can only get you so far when you are talking about my ship doll. So how about you tell me what you need these for.” he suggested, wanting her to give him the full story, and not all budging till she did.

Green light, she thought and smiled widely. Oh Mr. Alindor if Captain Knight is on board with my plan you won’t be greenlighting anything. Didn’t you just catch on to my spiel about biologists ruling the world or a ship in this case? You will be devoting every man on your crew to build my megapolis once you find a Devronian mole rat has popped his cage and making a home in those teeny tiny crevices only your T-Rex armed crewman can reach. Still, there was the saying that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar so Kalani toned downed her I rule the universe attitude.

“I need an aquarium and a terrarium,” she said simply. Ten of them that are ten foot high by six foot wide each but we can save that for another time. “I have a few selected specimens for an experiment that I am running. Tell me Jarred, if I may call you that since we are technically not on duty. How big are your quarters? I mean you have a bedroom, living area, bathroom,” she let her voice trail off a bit. “Now imagine if all you had was the bathtub. Wouldn’t you want a space that is like this,” she spread her arms wide, “instead of a space like this,” she made a frowny face and shook her head no as she made a small box with her hands.

Jarred arched his eyebrow, much of what she needed could be used on the ship if Captain Knight didn’t agree. It didn’t hurt to have the extra and he didn’t hate the idea. He used to love the animals he found on the Starbase as a kid, it was the only thing he enjoyed. People lost pets all the time and he found them, and often kept them. Wanting to keep them on the ship would be an interesting place to visit if Kalani was truly serious. “I can live with that, sounds intriguing. I have a little bit of experience building things like that. I would love to help you. I will get everything you need, most of this stuff can be reused if Dante refuses so I don’t think it’ll hurt to have a little bit of excess if he does. For my measure I will make sure they give you all you need though.” Jarred said, looking down one of her fingers had left over jelly, grabbing her hands he quickly placed it in his mouth and licked it off.

“Oh god,” she said staring at Jarred with a dumbfounded expression. “You licked me. Why did you just lick me,” she asked not pulling her hand back but staring at it.

“Well, you are mine” he said with his tongue sticking out as he got up offering his hand to help her up, “Lets go get what you need from Crag. You can get me a new doughnut on the way to the ship.” he suggested as he smiled down at her as she waited for her to grab his hand. It was a silly stupid gesture, but he was enjoying talking to Kalani and wanted to offer a hand of friendship so to speak.

“So you go around licking things and claiming them as yours,” she looked at him.

“You know that is mainly performed by mammals to check for vital signs, welcome others into their pack, and because they can be lacking enough sodium in their diet. Now the amount of sodium in human sweat is minimal but maybe you should try something like gatorade if you are feeling a bit dehydrated,” Kalani said taking his hand and standing up. She had no idea who this Jarred really was an in another time she might have decked him but silently she knew that what she was about to tell him would hit just as hard as a left hook.

“You might also want to study your specimen a bit more before you go about randomly licking them. While I am healthy as a horse and so is Max, I am not sure you realize that you just french kissed a macroglossus minimus,” she said setting the small bag on the table and opening it up a crack. “He sure doesn’t like light this bright but he did love the strawberry filling he licked off my fingers.” Kalani wasn’t sure how Jarred would react but it served him right for going about licking strange mammals. Her animals had gone through quarantine so they were infection free but Alindor didn’t need to know that.
