“How was our trip to the Saracen, Ensign? Uneventful, I hope?” the big man asked as he finished up the file. Standing up, the man was almost seven feet tall. But there was an ease to his movements that seemed to indicate an ease and relaxed manner not typical of larger human beings. Walking over to replicator, he ordered a cup of tea and then joined her in the seating area, taking the single chair facing away from the desk.

“Yeah, it was fine,” Enina responded, with an air as if she had just been discussing walking from her house to the local shop. She glanced up at Sinclair’s full height as he made his way to get his tea and then to join her. Wow, this dude was tall. She allowed herself another moment to observe him and then, as he settled, directed her eyes back down at her hands, folded in her lap, and slouched down a bit more in the couch. What was it with these psych types and tea…

“Fine? Well, I suppose that’s better than some.” he said and then took a sip and set the cup down on the low table. Leaning back a bit, he said “Now, you do know that this whole thing is easier if you actually talk, right?” with a friendly grin, his brogue lending a warmth to his words.

Enina unfolded her hands enough so that she could circle her pointer fingers around one another. She studied her rotating fingers carefully for a few moments before directing her attention back at the counselor.

“I don’t have anything to talk about,” she responded, with a nonchalant shrug. “I mean, I know how these things go, I’m a Starfleet brat, but I don’t have any secret conditions or murderous tendencies or anything…” Clearly, she didn’t hold the psychological evaluation process in much esteem. Really, she just wanted to get out of here and move on to finding out where engineering was and how she could improve the CMO’s office. She tilted her head back against the back of the couch and stared at the ceiling, mentally moving walls in Sickbay around to see if she could squeeze out a little more room here or there.

“Can I go yet?” she questioned, in an entirely serious tone despite the somewhat immature nature of the question.

Sinclair cocked his head to the side and looked at her intently for a long moment and then said “By all means. You are free to go whenever you like, Ensign.” and he turned off the PaDD resting on his knee. “Of course, I can’t clear you for duty until I have done your on-boarding assessment. But I’m sure you will be quite content to sit in your quarters and not be allowed to work until such time as your transfer comes through. That would be back to Earth, I would assume, as you would be perceived as not cleared for duty aboard a star ship or station. But again, I’m sure from reviewing your record that that won’t be an issue for an individual such as yourself. And of course, without being cleared for duty, all your access will be suspended until you transfer off. You’ll still have access to your quarters and the dining and exercise facilities, of course. But not the holodecks… and certainly not Engineering. Can’t have just anyone running around the ship, you know?” he said with a friendly smile and another small chuckle, and he picked up his tea and stood up, turning to go back to his desk. “Take care, Ensign. Safe travels.” he said and waved her as dismissed.
