“Sir,” Kalani approached her superior cracking her knuckles almost anxiously. “I have no idea what happened here. One minute everything was fine and then the next it was like Black Friday Shopping as Ferngmart and there were only three personal transport pads left with a hundred people that wanted them. I am running a toxicological screen of the air but I am not sure anyone was doing anything with gas. At least the chemistry department did not admit to it,” she said. The tone of her voice had a hint of annoyance to it as she tried to act professionally.

Teller glanced back and forth between Kalani and the AI Dalton. He was hopeful to get a reasonable explanation for this bizarre acting out. “It makes sense but there is nothing on the experiment list that would explain any of this.” He turned to the chemistry section chief…

“Because we did not do anything,” the head chemist snapped back and took a step forward. “I told you to check the water supply. Any contaminant,”

“And it would require us to all be drinking at the same time doofus for it to be a water toxin,” Kalani was having a hard time holding her tone to a neutral level as she waited for the results of the computer scan of the air to appear on the screen. “Do you see everyone sporting a Galaxycafe latte in their hand as they worked?”

“Doofus? Ensign, I don’t need a repeat of Wrestle Mania 291, so lets keep our comments professional.” Teller paused, “How bout this… nobody leaves until I get an answer that I like…” He smiled as he nodded. “Get it…”

Graham

“I am just waiting for the results of the tox screens,” Kalani said. “Again my best guess is this needs to be airborne. Ingestion of food or liquid would not have the same effect showing symptoms this fast based on species metabolisms. Sure everyone gets hangry when they are hungry but this is a bit ridiculous. Also, everything is replicated so it makes no sense that the replicators all went wonky and are trying to poison us. Death by dinner is only something my father excels at,” Kalani said flippantly.

“Why this console it taking so long is beyond me,” she watched the processing symbol of the ship’s computer running the sample. “Jarred’s people need to look at it. It’s not like they do anything besides stare at the warp core waiting for it to go boom. Trust me. I have spent a lot of time in engineering. They have perfected the art of walking around with a hydrospanner acting like they are busy.” Kalani could feel her irritation rising. There was no reason to feel this agitated but clearly, Al understood how she felt.

“My roommate is an engineer. You would think that would give me an edge on repairing the crap that keeps breaking in the room but nooo he is like ‘place a work order’”, Al snapped clearly showing his temper rising.

“Well I don’t know what they are doing because they are not making it to my place,” Kalani snapped in agreement. Instantly her mind left the processing console and focused with the laser-focused pointed accuracy a girlfriend has on her boyfriend that was not completing the tasks on her honey do list.

“We should just go down there and trap a few of them, drag them down here, and have them recalibrate the computers so we can do our job before retirement,” another science team member suggested giving the processing computer a dirty glare.

“I say we do one better. We tag them. You know like when we had to tag those Telaxian Hermit Owls. We get a couple of stun phasers and inject the engineering staff with Isotopic tracer B-47 so that when we need one we just bring up the Jobit program and boom,” he spreads his hands, “we got ourselves an engineer without a work order. Whose with me,” another science team member said agitatedly as he pulled out the first tracer phaser out and handed it to the guy next him.

OOC : Did you mean to post this here?

OCC: yes we are showing the anger is affecting people all over the ship. ~ Kate

Jarred has been on edge, two engineers had disobeyed orders to replace parts he asked two days ago. Normally things like this wouldn’t effect him, he was rather laid back especially with some time delays he had been doing for Kalani aquarium.

“Oh you need all the zones to be able to keep all animals alive? That’s stupid, she’s stupid. If it wasn’t for all this time I spent there I could good some damn work finished around here…” Jarred murmured to himself. It was clear he was angry and to many it would seem as if a storm path. He wasn’t going to let Kalani take his time anymore. He didn’t care if he loved her it took time away from real work. Her science was barley science. Elizabeth could tell difference between a bird and a cat and she’s four.

Barging into the science lab he looked around, crazed look in his eyes. He knew she was her the computer said so, “Oh love of my life!” he said aloud not caring how many were in the room. He was clearly planning to make a scene as he spotted her.

Kalani felt her anger spike ten fold. She knew Jarred’s sarcastic side and it was sure coming out now. Crossing her arms across her chest she gave him the look that said watch your step or sleep on the couch.

“There you are, you know how far behind schedule I am because of your bull crap? The ship is falling apart and I see you scheduled new paneling in your terrarium complex? Are you insane!? It doesn’t need more I told you we can’t have anti gravity Sheliakian Razor Marmots! How many times do I have to tell you they can’t survive here!” He shouted as he looked fiercely in her eyes.

His attitude was far more than she could take right now. “You like numbers honey dontcha,” Kalani said in a seething tone fixing a deadly glare on him. “Why don’t you try these on for size. Tell me about two more times maybe three why it the Sheliakian Razor Marmots are not going to live here when I had a litter of them born last week. Then I can tell you once you had better not show up at my quarters until you have changed your tone.”

That was about enough for him. He put on his, I’m in command voice. “And now you are done.” He pointed to Kalane and the foolish officer to followed his lead. “You are confined to quarters until further notice. Put down the phasers, I’ll have security check on you in three minutes.” He stared at them unblinking.

“Understood,” she said crisply before turning to Jarred on her way out and stated. “Thanks for getting me fired. You are the best boyfriend ever!” It was clear that all of Kalani’s venom was directed at Jarred and not her supervisor. Inside she knew none of this should make her wanted to throttle the people around her but it was as if she something was fueling her rage that she could not pinpoint. Walking past Jarred, Kalani made sure she bumped into him as hard as she could with her shoulder. The problem was the top of her shoulder only came to just under his armpit. Jarred was solid and this hurt her more than it did him. In fact, Jarried barely bobbled if he did at all. Still Kalani felt better for the action.

The comm system sprang into life

“Oh those aren’t phasers, I made them… she went on and on about needing ways to track the animals. All they do is just shine a really powerful laser. If she let me finish my work things would could get finished but no… she has to keep talking about animals…” Jarred said as he seemed to wave his hands in the air in a mocking gesture of Kalani trying to track the birds. “The real prototype will be done once I get section A down and we can put the stupid birds in a containment to hold them, or eat them which ever comes first.

Graham looked at the Lieutenant Commander. He was outranked, but something was going on. “Weapons are weapons, Lieutenant Commander, and I’m not about to let someone get tagged and bagged with a phaser or your self-created laser light.” He watched Alindor for a few moments.

“Fair enough, it’s not why I was here anyway. This bores me as it is, tell her when she’s out of the brig to come see me.” Jarred said, clearly growing annoyed but moving his attention elsewhere.

“It’s not a laser light,” Kalani groaned and gripped her clenched her fist at the door. “It is a simple animal tracking device that marks the genetic diversity,” she turned and walked back to the men who utterly outranked her grabbing the device off her workstation as she returned. “As she passed her console she noticed the results of her scan popping on line.

“I don’t think you need to be in this section… do you Commander?” Teller wanted him gone, with the Chief Engineer acting all funny he didn’t want someone out ranking him nearby when he tried to get control of the situation.

“Well the ship is my job, anything can go awry… break… if anything the entire ship is my department.” Jarred said as he looked at the man squarely. It didn’t seem angry as he spoke but there was a slight sense of defiance to challenge that claim.

=^= Harrison to Science Lab 1, I need an analysis of the environmental control systems, immediately,we may have a contaminant aboard affecting the crew. =^=

Corinne watched the interplay with a confused amusement. There was worry too, since there was clearly something odd going on here, but at least there was something useful she could do. She turned to Graham. ” I can help out the CMO, or stay here, or jump back in the system as needed. Either way, environmental issues don’t affect me, so… I can go places and do things without the risk.” She was giving him the choice of what she did since she had come down here specifically to ask to jump in and be useful. Strangely enough she was starting to feel like she could be more useful in the system, even though she didn’t want to be in there if something was going down on the ship, even if it was inherently safer for her.

~Corinne Dalton

Graham looked at Corinne for a moment weighing what was going on. “The chief engineer wasn’t in this section… so if something is going on beyond everyone being in a mood at the same time its a ship wide issue. Check Environmental Controls - Air probably. Can’t be water… Has to be airborne.” Radiation wouldn’t occur to him until he hit the bridge.

“I have had a headache for awhile, but… if it’s affecting me I would know. I just am tired of the Kalani thinking just cause she can turn into a pretzel in bed to get her way about what show we watch means I am going to keep making stupid changes to her terrarium zone.” Jarred seemed to be fixated on that, it seemed to be an almost single minded rant but he did wonder a bit of his reasoning to snap. It was like a battle over trying to act rational and wanting to just blow up the deck he was working on.

OOC: Okay it appears my post got lost somewhere so I am reposting here.

IC:
Environmental scans showed nominal with no known contaminant in the air of the ship.

GM Nosferatu

“Sir, there are no contaminants in the air, water, or food,” Kalani muttered more than annoyed. “And I am talking to my superior not you,” she made it clear that right now Jarred Alindor was the last person she wanted to talk to.

“Sweetie I am always both.” Jarred said as he rolled his eyes at her.

“We are all going to die,” a science crewman suddenly blurted out from the back of the room. He had a wild look in his eye that was far worse than any anger. It was not simply fear but sheer and utter panic. “We are all going to die and rot here. We can’t drink the water,” he said breathing heavy but still as a statue.

“Joe calm down,” a female science crewman snapped irritated about his outburst. The fight going on between the department heads and the uptight little climatologist was just getting good. She was ready to see an all outfight happen and Joe was going to ruin it.

“We can’t eat the food. We are going to die. Die,” his voice became almost shrill as the look in his eye went from panic to the look of a man ready to fight for his life. “Get me outta here. Get me outta here!” He punctuated his statement with a bolt to the door. It was not a run nor hurried hustle as they all exhibited during a red alert. It was a man running to save his life. Joe shoved two men down and pushed a woman over a workstation as he ran out a side door. His outburst caused several others to join him as if it were a stampede.

The NE crewman’s reaction was not the anger she and Jarred seemed to be experiencing but no less visceral. Her mind worked overtime trying to figure out what was going on. Humans were animals and followed the same set biological principals. She just had to stop being so damn mad at Jarred and think straight. Glancing around the room she noticed one striking thing that stood out like a sore thumb.

“Dalton, why are you not peeved off at the galaxy,” Kalani snapped. “You have emotions right?” The comment sounded insensitive but so far she was the only one that seemed to have a cool head and an almost bemused “what the heck is going on” expression. Corrine was in all intents and purposes a human still with the same range of emotions even if she was a hologram or something of that sort. So why was she the only one not reacting like they were scared to death or ready to rip someone’s head off.

Ensign Kalani Kane science.

“Of course she does, I know more than anyone the anger she can possess… but she doesn’t have human systems… she…” Jarred wondered, what if Cori was contaminated. If this was not in the air it could be another form. Things can affect systems like radiation, Cori could be just as vulnerable.
