12 hours later.

“Dah....Dah....Dante,” Daye yelled sitting upright in the bed. The silk sheets slid off her body as her hand reached out to the left. Dante was always on her left. She had to find him. Her pulse raced as she fought off the fog of sleep desperate to find the man she loved. She thought she had gotten over this. The reoccurring dream that he was gone and never coming back. A counselor once told her it was due to the long weeks apart and the dangers of his job. She could buy that reasoning in the past but not this time. This time it was more tangible. As if she was watching him slip away from her. As her eyes focused on the room, Daye saw that she was in her hotel suite. The balcony door was not open but was there. The table with the coffee and fresh fruits and pancakes was waiting for them but in the room not outside of it. The reassuring smell of coffee filled the room. Everything was as it should be and would be perfect the second she could find out where Dante was.

“God these two are going to get old. I mean who doesn’t love the undersea rooms. Fish and aquariums are therapeutic,” a security officer said to his counterpart.

“Yeah apparently they did not get the memo. This is going to be a long 8 months if we have to keep resetting them every 24 hours. I mean it has been a long 4 days already doing it. Why won’t that guy just sit back with a beer and chill the frack out. His profile says he wanted only sedentary activities this trip. Butt in the sand and toes in the beach sort of stuff but every day he is the one fighting us. If he doesn’t back it down they will take more permanent measure of memory removal and that is always messy,” the second guy said.

“I’m here love,” Dante’s voice came to her from the other side of the room, and when she looked she would see him heading back in her direction with a silver tray filled with plates and two steaming cups of coffee.

Natasha had a wild look in her eye as she fixated her gaze on Dante making his way across the room. The dream had seemed so real. Her heart was still racing in her chest. Nat’s breath came in sharp hard puffs as if she was still in the dream.

“I promised you coffee when we woke up from our nap, remember?” He said and slid onto the bed beside her, to her left. “After what we just did the last few hours, I thought you might be hungry as well.” He grinned at her and his lips found her cheek, then slid to her ear for a playful nibble before pulling away to look her in her big, beautiful eyes.

“Bacon sandwiches, made just how you like them.” He placed the tray at their feet and picked up the two coffee cups, but he placed these on the side tables to either side of them and then turned back to her. “You know you are gorgeous when you sleep?” His hand moved to her, and gently caressed her tummy and waist with just his fingertips while he looked at her. “I wanted to let you sleep just a little longer, so I could lay beside you and watch you snore.”

“You left me,” she snapped, “to make coffee when you should have been here.” Daye sat on the bed and ran her hands through her hair as if frustrated.

“I was here, watching you the whole time baby.” Dante said to Tasia softly, and he sat on his side and waited for her to come back to him. “That’s why I asked you to live with me, remember?” His voice was calm, soothing, and the sound of how much he cared for and adored her was clear as he spoke. “No more being alone, not for us my love. I’ve been away from you for too long, too many years. It’s time for us now.” He reached out and gently touched her arm, “come here my love, lay with me and have coffee.”

“I just had this dream and it was soooo real,” she said moving closer to Dante so that her body was pressed against his. Pulling him down towards the bed, Daye pressed into his chest with her back so that they were curled up with his breath cascading down her neck as he laid behind her. “I was alone and you weren’t here…there,” she stumbled over her words as she waited for the feeling to pass. This feeling was not new. She had episodes where she felt like this over the years when Dante was gone; however, now he was here to chase away the demons. There was no need to wake him from halfway across the galaxy to comfort her. He was just inches away. Pulling his arms tight around her she let out a small laugh.

“I’m sorry,” Dante said to her, whispering it from just behind her. Of course what he did in her dream wasn’t actually his fault, but he felt that apologizing for it anyway was only going to be a good thing, and he needed to make her smile and relax. He didn’t know why exactly, but he knew that the last thing he wanted was for her to be stressed out or worried about anything. Holding her tighter to him, he kissed her neck softly. “I promise I’ll do better next time I’m in your dream.”

“God I have no idea why I was just so mad at you,” she started to laugh more. “I mean yes you should be held completely accountable for all the doofus things I make up in my mind when I am asleep. So maybe you should just start apologizing now so that we can move this day along,” Natasha tried not to laugh at the absurdity of her statement. Being with Dante solved every problem she ever had. He met her crazy and upped the ante like a bizarre chess match.

“We could always move straight to the part where we physically make up,” Dante teased her, “I’ve always found that works a whole lot better with you than just saying sorry.”

“Hmmm I love that idea,” Daye pulled his arms tighter around her body. She turned her face to kiss the area between his bicep and elbow of the arm around her neck. “And of course it works silly. I mean who could keep a straight thought when you are doing things that create white noise in my head. That is the best sorry ever. We should fight but not really fight 0r live a moment from our past,” Daye let a long pause fill the air. “So many memories to choose from,” she tried to act as ifshe was thinking when clear the smirk on her face told Dante she already was thinking something devious. “Oh oh oh what if I am a cadet at the academy. You are a ruggedly handsome senior cadet who has to teach a class in self-defense. I can be a doe-eyed junior cadet with cat-like reflexes that you are unable to defeat. You blow a whistle to start sparing and I spring up from the mat like a ninja deftly taking you to the ground in three seconds flat. You, of course, are all blustery,” she puts on a fake pout and lets her voice get deeper for a second as she read the last line. “Then you call me to your office where I seduce you and you are powerless to say no to anything I want. So should we stand up for you to let me take you down or should we play adult twister in bed,” she rolled over to face him biting her lip.

“Or maybe we could pretend that we have a lot of arguments today, or your just really jealous of me being around the women here and I need to show you just how much I love you and need you? Maybe show you just how much this old dog has left to give over these young bucks who think they are in their prime?”

“Oh baby you are like fine wine. You only get better with age and when you were in your twenties you had no idea how to do that thing,” she held up her arms intertwining them to demonstrate a position where her palms were flat but one below was resting in the crook of the other. You know I never liked you being away from me but that trip to Geliding II…that trip,” she let out a whistle, “I would send you there any day of the week if you come back with information like that. I say we have a refresher course in the Geliding Lessons of Love,” she smiled softly at him. Looking at his face she saw nothing but the man she loved. Yes, time had added a few wrinkles just starting to show around the eyes and the more chiseled features of a man in his early thirties instead of the baby faced men had in their early twenties, yet Daye could not imagine a more handsome version of Dante than the one she was looking up at now. Everything about him excited and attracted her to him. In the past few years, she finally understood how a man and woman in their 90’s could profess their partner was the most beautiful person in the universe. Natasha would love Dante until the day she died and time nor life would ever change that. Reaching up she pressed her finger to his lips so that he could kiss it. “I will never want anyone more than I want you.”

He pushed himself over slightly so that he was physically over her, but raised an eyebrow in question. “But you know the coffee will go stone cold and the bacon sandwiches are better hot, right? I didn’t get out of a warm, snuggly bed beside the woman I love to make coffee and bacon that will go to waste,” he reached out and picked up her cup, bringing it back so she could sit up on the pillows and drink, “so drink up, my little Russian cossack, we have a day full of being together to get started. I feel like going out and spending some time with you, lets go shopping, make the Saracen’s transporters struggle under the weight of things you don’t need.”

“I would rather struggle under the weight of a very determined and agile Italian but I can occupy myself with shoes until later,” she acquiesced taking a sip of her coffee. Dante was right. They could park the old Plymouth into the garage when they got back to the Saracen. Now was the time to get up and get some fresh air.

Looking over to the side table, he looked around for his comm-badge. “Maybe I should tell the ship we are going to be a few days late? Or they can get our things early and we can go on a yacht trip for a couple of days.”

“Ohh good Idea. We can also call Kalani and see how Bruce is doing and if that stupid cat dog thing of her is behaving. I know you like her and she probably is the most qualified to take care of him but I don’t trust Ralph,” Natasha grumbled.

Seeing Dante scatter about the contents of the dresser next to the bed slightly irritated Daye. Everything in its place a minute ago and now it was all messy and scattered. She would have to clean that later. “Here here,” she said loosening the band on her watch. “Use my Fernigar Flea,”Daye said pulling off the watch/communication device around her wrist.

“I had engineering program it to the Saracen so I don’t have to go around wearing that ulgy comm badge. I can just use that and look pretty,” Daye admitting picking up a bacon sandwich and taking a bite. The taste of it was amazing. Dante had crisped the bacon to perfection. The bread was soft but the crust had a slighty chewy texture. Each bite melted in Daye’s mouth and she stared at the sandwiches on the plate. As if driven by a force she could not control, Daye wolfed down the first sandwich and spied Dante fiddling with her watch across the room. He wouldn’t mind if she ate his. Some days you were just hungrier than others and it was not like they were banned from room service after a single daily order. Picking up the first half of the second sandwich she chewed slowly trying to figure out what was happening with Dante and the call to the Saracen.

“What is it with these two and why is she wearing a Ferngar Flea,” one security agent said to the other. “That watch does everything. I heard the latest version has a site to site transport feature for a monthly cost.”

“Leave it to the Ferengi to come up with something everyone has but put it in a different package and sell it back to you at three times the cost. You think she has the transporter version,” the other security guard asked scratching the scruff on his cheek.

“I don’t know Vern but what I do know is that we can’t take that chance,” he snapped. “Call housekeeping so we can reset again. He made breakfast. At least they will eat the memory wipe drug instead of us having to knock them out with gas.”

“Done,” the second guy said as he placed the call for the daily reset of Mr. and Mrs. Knight.
