When Dante woke he would find himself in what could be classified as an underwater hotel. The bed Dante was waking up on had thick fluffy blankets with own feather pillows. The decor was done in a pure crisp white which contrasted beautifully with the dark mahogany wood on the floor and furniture. A large window spanned the room from floor to ceiling. On the other side of the window was a spectacular coral reef. Various animals and fish swam about among the colorful corals and anemone. The filtered light from the sun on the underwater waves created a ripple effect of shadows on the walls making the occupants of the room feel as if they were in an aquarium. If there was one word to describe the room it would be peaceful.
He stretched and yawned in the bed and opened his eyes. For a moment, he lay in a daze and tried to remember what he was doing but everything was foggy. His eyes turned to the side and landed on a large, colorful fish swimming past and he pushed himself up on his elbows and looked around the room.
Judging by the light it wasn’t morning, he must have taken a nap but for the life of him he couldn’t remember going to bed. The room was both strange and oddly familiar, like he knew it but had never seen it before and he frowned slightly as he tried to place it. Those thoughts fell away in the fog however as his eyes landed on a figure in a chair.
In a chair wrapped in a blanket across the room, Natasha sat looking at the fish swimming about waiting for Dante to wake up. She had entered when Sunstrom had left. She was too dazed to do much else than stare at the animals.
Lt. Natasha Daye
“Nat.” He said simply and rolled himself out of bed and to his feet, walking across to her and smiling as he lay his hand on her shoulder. “How long did I sleep for? I don’t remember lying down for a nap. You look comfy,” he said as he leaned down and kissed her forehead gently and brushed his fingers over her cheek, moving them up and curling a strand of hair behind one of her ears. “Do you want coffee? I’ll make us some.”

“Sit with me,” she said taking his hand and pulling him down towards the chair she was curled up in. It was large and oversized. Not quite a two seater but more than enough room for her to scoot over, let Dante sit down, and then adjust her body so they fit more comfortably.
Dante smiled gently, then brought her fingers to his lips and lightly kissed them before he turned and sat down with her on the chair. It wasn’t exactly an easy fit nor made for two people, but Nat and Dante had always been able to make themselves comfortable no matter what position they found themselves in, it just took some adjusting, and moving the occasional elbow out of of the way. In any case, the chair was perfect because it meant that he and Natasha would be as close as humanly possible, together and intimate, but mainly together. “You just refused coffee? I can count the reason’s why you would do that on one hand, even if I was missing fingers bub.” He bit his lip and waggled his eyebrows excessively to get his point across, but made no attempt to follow that up. Coffee was almost as good as spending time holding Nat close to him.
It would have been far easier for her to just get up but Natasha was comfortable and she could tell Dante was in a snuggly mood because he wiggled and forced his way into the seat instead of just making her get up and then sit back down. She smiled and laughed a bit as he shifted trying to get comfortable in the chair. Mainly because it did not fit with his actions any other time in real life. Dante was always the more proper of the two in public. When she saw him like this the guy doing silly things just to make his girl happy, it always made her grin. Feeling Dante finally settle in the chair she let out a contented sigh.
“I know I know I just refused coffee,” she said swiveling her body so that her legs draped over the edge of the chair and she could lean back onto his chest.
As she did so, Dante wrapped both of his arms around her and nuzzled her neck then her ear with his lips, then lay his cheek against her and watched the view out of the window and joined Nat in letting out a content sigh.
“It’s just this view is so pretty. We never get quiet moments like this and I just want to enjoy it with you. If Bruce was here he would be licking the damn glass,” she let out another round of chuckles. “Kids are great but they are a handful. As soon as we get back to the ship it is going to be all hustle and bustle until we are forced to slow things down. I guess I just wanted a few minutes to play Nat and Dante and not Bruce’s mom and dad. You know how it goes. The minute you have the kiddo you lose all self-identity.”
Nat’s mention of Bruce and kids tickled something in Dante’s mind, and he remembered the argument they had on the Saracen only days before he had booked their vacation and brought Natasha to Erewhon, arriving at the space port and seeing the towering hotels overlooking the ocean on the floating Island. The memory made him hold her just a little tighter and for all the world he would have given anything to have a family with Nat, it looked like now that was going to be a hard thing to do with the medical ramifications of her miscarriage, but it never meant he cared any less about the woman he loved. “If Bruce was here, we would likely be standing at that window with fingers and toes stuck in the holes he made from trying to catch the fish.” He said to her, “when we have a baby, Nat, Bruce will make the best big brother, and you’re going to be the worlds most amazing mother.” He nuzzled the side of her head again, something about that statement just felt so right to Dante.
Why she was suddenly on this topic made no sense to Daye. Still, she liked the idea of having someone running around that looked like him but thought like her. Dante was amazing but at times he could be a little too mature even if he was a Starfleet Captain. Subconsciously she wrapped his arm around her body as they spoke letting his hand rest on her stomach as she intertwined her fingers into his. Her hand fit perfectly into his. His touch felt safe and empowering. Whenever their hands were locked this way, Natasha never felt nervous or scared or anxious. It was like a silent reminder that nothing could separate them. They had been through so much over the years. A million days of perfect scattered with a few hours of turmoil. She, however, would not change a single moment of her life with him. They had grown together over the years from two love-struck kids at the academy to a couple that could read each other’s moods simply by looking at their face. Natasha knew when to give Dante space like he knew when she wanted to be held in silence. Their relationship was a well-defined tango filled with passion and love and respect. “Just give it a few minutes,” she said laying her head on his chest. “Then we can get coffee.”
Lt. Natasha Daye
“I could stay like this with you forever,” he whispered to her, “and we have time. We aren’t due for that walk to feed the giant eagles for hours yet.” He gave their intertwined hands on her stomach a soft squeeze, and ran his fingers lightly over her bare forearm as he watched the multicolored fish outside the window and the coral reef around them. He felt a need to look after her and protect her, she was precious to him in ways that he had never been able to express but with her in his arms, everything about them felt right in that moment. Turning his head and closing his eyes, he kissed her temple, then settled in and relaxed with the woman he loved in his arms and against his heart.
