USS Saracen
Satreya Quarters- Going Home
OOC: Thank you all for indulging me on this final wrap up. It’s been a joy to write Satreya and while I will miss writing her, I’m still here with Cori.
IC:
Sitting on the floor of her lusciously decorated quarters, Satreya tried not to feel too self-conscious given that she and Kavia had a rather necessary audience. Not only was it for her and the ship’s safety, but the need to gather information was very strong for her crewmates. The other side of it was that Boja wanted and needed the support, so of course Teller was there too.
Candles lit the space to give Satreya the sense of calm that would make this whole process easier. The process, of course, being Kavia accessing her mind. She wasn’t entirely sure how this would work, but she trusted the being sitting before her just enough to go with the flow here.
It wasn’t entirely like a Vulcan mindmeld- since she had experienced one before and had a reference point. But from Satreya’s point of view it was eerily similar. While touch wasn’t really necessary, it seemed to help at leas her perception of how Kavia navigated her mind. Hands touching and eyes closed, she relaxed and let her fellow Mykoli’Tannan lead the way.
It was exceptionally easy for Kavia to slip behind the wall. And while Boja was surprised, perhaps she really shouldn’t have been. After all, that wall in her mind was put there on purpose by her people and so it seemed reasonable that while people from this Universe failed time and time again to slip naturally through it, Kavia moved through as if it hadn’t even existed. Moments later, Satryea felt the whole thing dissolve.
A flood of memories moved through her mind at an astonishing rate, and yet both her and Kavia were able to process them easily. They were all of Satreya’s memories, from her first ones right up to the day she was sent through the portal between universes. Everything was there, including the death of her parents.
When the link was broken, Boja was left shaking. Though all the memories were now there, it seemed that outside of the mind link, she was back to processing them at a more usual rate. But the reality was there: Kavia had the information needed to take back to their people as an official Record Keeper for the Judiciary, and Satreya was left with a sense that there was still more to learn.
For hours afterwards, Satreya went back and forth, torturing herself over her duty to serve versus a duty to herself.
Eventually, duty to herself had won out.
For most of her life here in this Universe, Satreya Boja had served others, hoping to repay the kindness that had saved her from a life of mental torment and public ostracizing. She had gone through this life not knowing who she was on a fundamental level, left with questions no one could answer. But in her life she had found camaraderie, respect and even love. It had been enough.
When Kavia had first shown up, of course she had said she was staying. It was the only realistic response.
But that was before she suddenly had access to her missing memories and the new realization was that she wanted to learn more. More about herself, her family, her people. She craved that knowledge deeply and it wasn’t a feeling that was going to go away.
It was not an easy decision to make and convey, even if it was absolutely the right one, but eventually she came to it and told Teller and the Captain in turn that she was going to go back with Kavia to her universe and get to know her people, for better or worse.
The simple fact was that she didn’t belong in this Universe. Something had always felt off and there was no explanation she or anyone could give her. She was, as the Guardian of Forever stated, an Anomaly. It was time to go home.
One last night with Teller and she said farewell. Would she ever be back? She couldn’t say and certainly wasn’t going to promise anything nor ask anyone to wait for her.
When the time came, Kavia sent the signal to their people and together they went through the portal that was opened and still as of yet unexplainable. Satreya suspected that Kavia was intrigued enough to come back after her role as Record Keeper was fulfilled and Satreya’s memories submitted as evidence. But Satryea would not be coming back with her. At least not for now.
Stepping through the space between Universes, Statreya felt an overwhelming feeling flow over her. It was relief.
She was home.
