“Darn, I’ll have to tell the line up at my quarters to get lost,” she bantered back with ease before the words fully registered. Then they did and Cori frowned. It was a comment she would have made before when she was Human, but was no longer applicable. It unsettled her for a brief moment but of course she understood why. It was another example of her life before versus her life now.

Sinclair caught the frown, but remained silent for a bit. He then said “So. Dealing with addiction is a long process. It’s a hard thing to overcome, and it requires a lot of personal investment on your part. So before we begin, I want to ask you a question. And I want you to think very hard about this before you answer, ok?”

She gazed at him, raising her eyebrows slightly, but assent appeared in her eyes.

“Do you want to address this, and are you willing to put in the time and work necessary to help yourself through this period of your life?”

Corinne laughed slightly. “Well, it’s not like I have a bunch of other pressing matters to attend to. And since my life feels pretty miserable lately, it’s definitely in my best interest to do something about it.” She didn’t need to think about it all that hard. Of course she would. It was a glimmer of hope that something might happen in her life to help her make sense of it all.

Sinclair nodded once and said “Ok. Then we get to work right now. First, I want you to take a period and decompress a bit. No soul searching, no self-examination. Just take twenty-four hours to try and get yourself as centered as you can, all right? Then, I want you to send me two things. First: I want a list of your favorite fictional characters. Doesn’t matter if they are literary, vid, folk tales… just your favorites. No specific number. The next is I want you to think about where you would go if you could anywhere, at any time. A lake house, a volcano, a bar… it doesn’t matter. I just want you to think about where you would love to go more than any where else.”
