Sinclair took a breath himself. “Ok. Let’s break this down into smaller bits. So first. There are going to be some questions that I ask you multiple times, but it’s becuse you have given me a story with a bit of a convoluted timeline… no reflection on you, just circumstances, ok? So… How do you feel about him not telling you about his daughter while you were still in your original body and you two were a couple?”

Cori shook her head. “No, that was my first death. We got together after that holodeck incident. The death I referred to was when I was technically missing for over 3 years because the Douwd trapped me in a contained part of the computer to prevent me from alerting the crew to what was happening on the ship.” She lifted her chin slightly as she looked at Royal, and it could have been a trick of the light, but it was like her normally vividly electric blue eyes were almost dimmer.

“Ok. Understood. My mistake. So… how do you feel about him not telling you at the beginning of your relationship?”

Gazing straight head at nothing in particular, Dalton picked at the holographic cuticle on her thumb with a finger nail and sighed. “When he first out about her, he should have told me. If he loved me as he says he did, then he should have trusted me to help him through that, whatever the outcome. But he didn’t..”- tears pooled in her eyes-” and it feels like a betrayal. If I didn’t know that it kept it from everyone else, including Ayla, with whom he had been incredibly close to, then I’d say it has something to do with being holographic. Either way, he shut me out of that part of his life and it makes our relationship feel like a farce.”

“And did you express these feelings to him?” Royal asked.

“I tried to,” she said with agitation. “But then he was going on about how he had kept it from everyone and I wasn’t special in that regard, and that it was about his daughter and I shouldn’t take it out on her and said when I was done having a pity party, maybe I would consider having dinner with them,” she said with a bitter laugh before covering her mouth as her eyes went wide and tears fell. Why now? Why lately did she finally develop tears? She was trying to figure out if it was a subconscious thing on her part but it was definitely a new and interesting development.

Sinclair watched in silence. After a few moments he said “Well, one advantage to being a hologram… your mascara is still flawless.” with a kind smile.

“Let me ask you this… you said you feel betrayed, which is understandable and a perfectly normal reaction. Do you feel guilty about feeling that way?”
