Harel sat quietly, hands clasped on the table top in the practiced posture of patience he’d cultivated over years of duty. But as the conversation moved forward—strategic allocations, personnel assignments, away teams—he felt the distinct sensation of being overlooked.
He had made his request clearly. Concisely. Respectfully.
And yet, it had gone unanswered.
Not refused. Not acknowledged. Just… ignored.
His brows furrowed slightly, more in thought than offense. He wasn’t one to assume ill intent, especially not from a commanding officer in the middle of a briefing. But something gnawed at him—the knowledge that on Turkana IV, silence was an answer. Often a fatal one.
But this wasn’t Turkana IV. This was Starfleet. And here, clarity mattered.
He leaned forward, just enough to signal his intent to speak, and cleared his throat softly.
“Captain,” he said with measured calm, “I understand we’re dealing with a lot of information at once—but I wanted to respectfully ask permission again to initiate a systems integrity audit of our encrypted subspace relays.”
He kept his tone neutral, but his eyes searched the CO’s face for any flicker of recognition.
-Lt. Cmdr. Harel
Chief of Operations“Yes, of course, Cmdr. Harel. i apologize for not responding immediately to your request. I wanted to get everything out before I forgot anything. Yes, permission granted.”, Colter replied.
The question was addressed to the CO but something as logical as this had Kolar speak up. “Agreed. Anyone has a question just say we had a random piece of space debris hit our Starboard phase dampener and we did a full calibration.” It was plausible
Nyman also had additional questions, ones the Captain clearly couldn’t answer yet. Questions about motive. About the capabilities of these assailants. What could did they stand to gain? And what were they willing to give up?
He waited until after Harel’s concern had been acknowledged,
“If we can get a positive ID on any of these attackers, it might not be a bad idea to spend some resources building a psychological profile. It might help us figure out their motives, or maybe a weakness we can exploit.”
|Lt. Cmdr. Nyman, Diplomatic Officer / CNS|
“Agreed. Run the images through the central database of Federation citizens and see if we get any hits. I doubt they were upstanding citizens but never know where you might find a lead.”
Kolar XO
“And I’ll make sure my Away Team people are familiar, just in case.” Hudson added as a bit of an afterthought. “I’ll have the Criminal Analysis team run their faces through recog once we are done here.” AJ had a bad feeling he’d be living in the War Room for a while
Andrew James “AJ” Hudson
“There’s no way to get a physical ID. All the attackers were wearing stealth suits and masks. Yes, they’re humanoid, but they could be any of a number of humanoid races underneath the masks. Hell, they could be a mix of races working together. . . .we just don’t have enough information yet.”
The comms in the ready room beeped again. =^=Captain, we just received a video from Adm. Vass. It’s highly classified and needs your verification to view.=^=.
DaVinci tapped in his access code and began watching the video. After a moment, he paused and sent it to the large viewscreen so everyone in the room could see it.
“People this is the attack on the recon team that went to the colony to figure out what went wrong with the relay station. . . . “

“Highly organized, concise, definitely some military experience, deadly, precise, Our work is cutout for us, folks.”
The attack reminded the captain of attacks he had experienced before. A long time ago, when . . . . .he hand a hunch of who might be responsible, but for now decided to keep that idea to himself, until there was further information to confirm his suspicions . . . .
OOC: Levi, you and I were replying at the same time so I’m adding your post to the end of this and editing it slightly so that it makes sence
Captain Daniel “DaVinci” Colter
CO USS SaracenHarel inclined his head slightly in acknowledgment as the XO responded. It was a direct answer from the captain, but Kolar’s agreement was sufficient, also—and tactically sound. The cover story would hold, if it needed to.
“Understood, Commander,” he said simply.
His voice was quiet, measured, unobtrusive. There was no triumph in having finally been heard—just the quiet satisfaction of the circuit completing, the order affirmed. The work, at last, could begin.
He made no further comment. There was nothing that needed saying.
Hands still folded on the table, Harel let his gaze drift momentarily toward the status board scrolling behind the briefing room’s central display. Unchanged. Steady. Systems were holding—for now.
He waited to be dismissed, posture relaxed, eyes attentive, but no longer expectant.
He knew how to wait.

Chief of Operations
U.S.S. SaracenOOC: 10-4 Thank you! And holy God Em, that was one helluva prologue! I’m excited for this mission!
-Harley
OOC: Thanks, you’re in for a wild ride! ;)
Ally watched the attackers. They were incredibly fast but there were ways to slow them down. “Okay before any of you get crazy,” she held up a hand already ready for the backlash that was probably going to come from her next statement. “Can we work on a plan to hypo or gas them. I mean sure they are fast but anestintine takes everyone out to nonni nonni land in a heart beat. It is non lethal so there is nothing to patch up. I am thinking along the lines of what big game hunters have. Phasers loaded with tranq darts or grenades fill of anestinine. They have to breath right? I can does you all up with an antidote that will counter the effect of an tranq.”
Ally Scott, CMO and proposer of using Big Game zoological approach.
“Definitely, something to take into consideration, Doctor. Personally, I think it’s going to have to be strong enough to take down an elephant,” DaVinci replied. Tale into consideration that their suits may be armor, as well, and those masks may have filtration systems in them. It’s hard to tell from the video, as no one even got a shot off. If their abilities are . . . . .enhanced, they may have a resistance to poisons.”
IC: As they continued their discussions, a classified file popped up on the Captain’s PaDD. Commander Greenway had been serious, the information on the enemy was scarce from a handful of encounters which left barely any survivors. The few that did survive or witness an attack spoke of a highly organised and efficient enemy that moved with grace like one entity. They were inhumanly fast, dexterous and brutal. The best eye witness was from a young scientist who had been performing field work collecting samples of the local flora when the attack occurred. She spoke of figures emerging from nowhere and surgically striking the defense team with unnerving accuracy. She reported that they wore skin tight tactical suits and appeared to have some kind of advanced visual display. Even from half a mile away, they knew she was there. Had it not been for her emergency transport beacon, she had no doubt they would have killed her too.
- GM
“A half-mile away and they were aware of the scientist. . . . .”
The captain watched the video again. Halfway through, he paused. “Back during the Eugenics Wars on Earth, I fought alongside and against some of the best trained soldiers in the world at that time. These people, with their advanced tech, they blow away anything I’ve ever seen.”
“The Admiral gave us this mission, because he felt this crew has the best chance of success on both fronts–putting this organization out of business, and getting that relay station back in working order.”
Once again, he looked around the table at his DH’s and said, “Oders, folks. . . . .”
“Kolar, I want you and Ally working on that knock-out drug she mentioned and an effective way to administer it. Again, it needs to be strong, real strong. I don’t want to sound cold-hearted, but I’ve got a feeling this situation is going to be kill or get killed. I’ve seen war and that’s what it takes sometimes.”
“I am the proof that big things come in tiny packages,” Ally said with a hint of a smile. “I will make sure it can knock out an elephant.”
Ally CMO
“Cmdr. Harel, you’re going to be incharge of getting that station operating again. My clearance is high enough that I can get you anything you need to study that thing working. Schematics, replacement parts, whatever. Get me a list, and I’ll make sure you get it.”
“Aye, Sir,” Harel replied.
“Nyman, Satok–you’re job is to find out anything you can on this group. Satok, dig deep into you’re network of sources. Someone has had to have heard something. Even if it seems minuscule, check it out. Nyman ,as you said, try to work up a psych profile with what limited info we have so far. We already know they are vicious and have no compunctions about killing. Use that and anything else you can.”
Nyman gave a quick glance over at Satok, whom he hadn’t had the chance to officially meet, but recognized his name from the roster.
“Yes sir,” he responded, rocking forward in his seat.
“Cel, you and Hudson. . . . I want you to come up with a plan of attack to take them out of business and clear a path for Harel to get to that station. Keep in mind, there may still be living civilians in this colony. I hate to think it, but I don’t think the agressors have an interest in taking hostages.”
“We’re on the clock people. We’ve got X amount of time before we reach the colony. I want to have an action plan by the time we get there. Dismissed.”
Captain Daniel “DaVinci” Colter
CO USS SaracenThe word “dismissed” had barely left the Captain’s lips before Harel rose and exited the room. He preferred to be at the Ops station before the departments began vying for the ship’s resources.

U.S.S. SaracenNyman left following the Chief Intelligence officer,
“If you don’t mind Lieutenant,” he called after, flashing a smile,
“My office is a bit of a mess right now. Shall I join you in yours? That way we might be able to — you know, collaborate a little better.”
|Lt. Cmdr. Nyman, Diplomatic Officer / CNS|
Harel didn’t stop walking, but he did glance sideways as Nyman caught up beside him.
“I don’t mind,” he said, voice even. “But I need to complete my station prep before the resource requests start flooding in.”
“Once that’s handled, you’re welcome to join me. We can go over what we’ve got and figure out a workable collaboration from there.”
With a small nod—neither curt nor warm—he turned and continued on.
Without another word, Hudson rose and headed for the lift to the War Room. As he moved, he knew the systems were coming online and he wanted to make absolutely certain that the ship… his ship… wouldn’t be snuck up on.
