Allison used her new found freedom in her outfit to lean across the bar and pull out a bottle of booze. “Oh the CMO is not going to be the only one drunk shooting. Bottoms up boys,” she laid out a shot for all four of them but gave the CO and XO two extra ones. “By my calculations on BMI and knowing your medical records you two,” she pointed at Colter and Kolar, “need to drink twice as much as Angel and I. Maybe three times as much,” she changed her mind thinking about the difference in height and weight in the group.

DaVinci grabbed both his shots and threw them back quickly one after the other. . . .

“Drinking isn’t really my thing little lady,” Kolar replied truthfully… the drinks on the holodeck didn’t really do anything since it was just light and force fields which would just phase away when you walked out.

“Not to mention drunk shooting is the worst way of shooting darling.”

Kolar XO

The CO grimaced at the taste of the ‘alcohol’. “Yeah, there isn’t anyone getting intoxicated on that, still the taste alone could have some negative effects on accuracy.”

He turned and stepped outside the saloon and into the dusty road. =^=Computer, give me six glass bottles to use as targets. On fence posts. Say, 45 meters away. . . =^=

=^=Confirmed,=^= replied the computer as the targets materialized.

He threw the poncho over his shoulder, clearing his left hand and hip. With a flick og his wrist, DaVinci fired off 6 quick shots from his revolver, shatterig each bottle in the bullets path, except the last one. The bullet his the post, just under the bottle, but was still enough to cause the bottle to tumble to the ground and break.

He looked to the others as the gun slip into his holster. “That’s what they call ‘doin’ the hard way’.”

Ally downed a shot after making the signal for the computer to reset the bottles. Popping off the bar stool, Ally lifted her gun and took aim at the bottles. She did not have the lightening fast reflexes Colter demonstrated from his years of combat. Instead she took a classic stance for shooting. Her feet were shoulder-width apart, slightly bent at the knees but with her hips leaning slightly forward to help with any recoil if it were forthcoming. Ally’s shoulders were squared to the target and a slight forward lean at the hips. This was open called the isosceles stance which Kolar and Colter would immediately recognize if they had ever taught someone to fire a phaser. It allowed for stability and control showing Ally had fired a weapon before. Taking a breath she held it, before letting it out slowly as she aimed at each bottle. A few of her shots were on target with a few others hitting off to the side but just enough for it to fall over. She hit a total of four bottles but the other two bullets lodged into the wooden post just below her target.

“I excel at skeet,” Ally said lowering her weapon. “It seems counterintuitive to be better at hitting a moving target but,” she shrugged it off and motioned for Balfor to take his shot.

“So you went from Southern belle, to drunken rabble rouser to Annie Oakley in under 30 minutes. You do get bored easily,” he joked. Ally was energetic and impulsive but that was a hallmark of one’s age. She would settle down or maybe not. Only time would tell.

Kolar XO

“My father and brother are cops in San Francisco. We spent the weekends when I was not on the beach shooting and participating in agility dog training. While my father was just a cop, my brother worked the drug trade. He had one of those drug sniffing dogs looking for Red Ice and such from the syndicate. It would have made sense for me to go into security following in the family footsteps however it just wasn’t for me. Besides I am far more intimidating with a hypo than a weapon.”

DaVinci chuckled. “Y’know, doctor, I don’t doubt that for a second. I know I’d be frightened if I saw you coming at me, face all scrunched up, hypo in hand, telling me I’d better relax or you’ll make me relax. . . . yeah. Scary thought,” he said with a mischievous grin on his face the whole time.

Kolar let out a small chuckle. Both Dante and Natasha had said there was more to the CMO than her petite exterior.

Kolar XO

“What do you think, Kolar?” DaVinci asked. “You want to try your hand with a revolver? It’s not much different than using phaser. Just point and pull the trigger, except it’s got a bit of a kick to it!”

Kolar polished off the rest of his drink and waggled his head slightly as if contemplating his decision. ” Why not? ” He could actually think about a dozen reasons why not, but everyone would think he was no ‘fun’ which he knew was his earned reputation. “If we shoot ourselves we have the doctor here,” he hooked a thumb at Scott. It was not like that would happen. They were in a holodeck with the safeties on. It took some of the thrill out but Balfor was not a typically rabble rouser. He preferred a quieter sort of relaxation mainly in gardening. That did not mean it would not be fun and worth a try.

Kolar XO

“That’s the spirit, X,” the captain replied. “Whenever you’re ready.”

=^=Computer, reset the bottles.=^=

=^=Acknowledged,=^= came the reply.

As they waited for Kolar to start shooting, DaVinci addressed the CMO. “Care to make a wager on how good he does, doctor?”

Captain Daniel “DaVinci” Colter
CO/CIO USS Saracen

“I will wager I am better than him,” Ally said with a half chuckle. Crossing her arms she looked at his stance. “Hell, I would wager I could take you,” she gave him a side glance and a half smile.

DaVinci chuckled and turned to face her. “Careful for what you wish for, doctor. . . . .”

He leaned in and lowered his voice, “.. . . and just where is it you’d like to take me?”

“You know my bed is always open,” she shot back with a side wink. “I just even upgraded to the 500 thread count sheets. Thanks for that purchase order. I find the breathability and texture is quite lovely for most who use them.” It was a tongue and cheek comment but Ally had been with Colter a long time as a part of the crew. “Just like those ones you had on the Wyoming trip which made it bearable.” She was just as relentless as Colter with the inside banter. The last senior staff team building activity had been to his home in Wyoming. It was a ton of fun but far more primitive than most of them had experienced in a while. The campfires, horseback riding, target shooting, and hikes made it a far cry from the typical shore leave. It was the last time the original crew had been together. It was full of memories and Ally loved to tease Colter about his pride in being something his time referred to a Gen X the last feral generation.

“However, that would be in the correct, ideal setting.” Just before Kolar popped off his first shot Ally called out =/\=Computer add set of scarecrows…dimensions are six foot four inches tall and proportional weight of 180 pounds. Also add a third set of targets. Make these motion sensitive and the ability to fire back.=/\=.

“Now you’re just getting nasty, Ally.” DaVinci added.

“You don’t have an issue with confidence,” Kolar let out a small laugh. The CMO was far different once you got to know her past the job interview. There she was high strung and slightly on the nervous side. Outside of that official meeting, Ally was headstrong, probably overconfident, but rather fun. Taking his stance, Kolar held his breath and prepared to take his first shot.

“Is the contest going to start now or are you going to just keep changing up the targets?” The comment was thick with good natured sarcasm. It had been a long time since Kolar had hung out with crew like this. In his prior assignment on the Olinski the pilot’s gave as good as they got. Here it was a slower assimilation into the ranks from XO on duty to regular guy off duty. It was refreshing to be in a place where rank had no meaning for the night.

“Keep your pants on Kolar,” she let out a small laugh. “There is a purpose to the madness. What is it you guys in charge say all the time. Trust the process?”

With the adjustments made, Ally clarified her bet. “So I can kick your asses on the scarecrow targets. I am not sure I will be able to hit the broad side of a barn with the motion sensor ones and the bottles will just be for bragging rights about speed which I have a fair chance of beating you both.”

“What are we ponying up for prizes. I say dinner. We meet up and the loser cooks us something from home.”

Ally Scott CMO

Kolar was fairly certain he was no better than an average shot and it seemed like Scott was trying to hustle a free meal out of it. “I think you are putting the cart before the horse, or you are just a solid cook wanting to flex your arugula muscles. I make no broad claim of my adroitness with firearms, but I will take your bet.”

“Count me in,” Colter added. “I’m looking forward to see what San Diego cuisine is all about. You can even use the kitchen in my quarters. I don’t use it nearly enough.”

“Excellent but I would start smoking that meat of your for the brisket. I am not going to be the one cooking.”

Kolar ended his discussion and took his shots first at the bottle and then the scarecrow. Kolar had outstanding hand eye coordination, but his experience and style was lacking. He calmly took measured shot one after the other… if this was a timed exercise he would have run out of time… but they never said anything about speed.

Kolar

“Slow and steady . . . . that’s the smart way to do it, Kolar. My money’s riding on you.”

Captain Daniel “DaVinci” Colter
CO/CIO USS Saracen

That caused a genuine chuckle. Kolar had no personal belief that he was going to win this contest, and if he had to cook it was going to be hasperat. It was a delicacy and notoriously spicy… “If you mess with the bull, you get the horns.” He said after the laugh. They would have no idea he was talking about the meal and not the shooting contest.

Ally lowered her weapon pointing it at the ground as she let out a laugh. The small gesture hinted at her having a certain comfort around weapons that normally only security people possessed. “Okay shush. I’m blonde and need to concentrate.” Her quip at her hair color was just a poke at their personas. She had zero doubts they equated her personality with her blonde beach bunny exterior however Ally had learned a long time ago that friends who relentlessly teased each other had a far stronger friends ship than those who were achingly polite.

Taking a breath and holding it, Ally popped off several shots in succession. She hit a few of the targets shattering them but only clipped one bottle and missed one entirely. It was no where near as exact as Kolar’s were. His had been plucked off the posts one by one in a slow methodical manner. Ally had chosen the three different shooting exercises based on what she felt each one of them would excel at winning. This was never going to be her event but it was a toss up to whether Kolar or Colter were better. Glancing over her shoulder, Ally didn’t directly admit her defeat but uttered one word in a quizzical tone, “Hasperat?”
