Matthew was jostled awake by turbulence in the shuttle. Looking out the port side window he saw a binary star system taking shape. “Fascinating.” He remarked. The pilot, a veteran runner looked over as well. “Good. Your awake. We’ll be at the Saracen in a few hours.”

Matthew nodded. “That’s good. This is my first Department Head job with a major ship. I’m trying to just still think of it as a smaller vessel and just scale up what I need so as to not get overwhelmed.”

“Sounds like a good idea Commander. You’ll do fine.”

“Thanks.”. Was all Matthew got out before being jostled again. A few hours later he finally saw the Saracen in the main viewer. It was big and he gulped. “You got this.”. He whispered to himself.

After the pilot got the clearance for docking and landed safely inside he shook the pilots hand and grabbed his bags and walked out with a couple other passengers. “So it begins.”

DaVinci had been making his way to engineering to inform the team that their new chief would be arriving soon. He also wanted to give a quick inspection to make sure the engineering section was ready and up to snuff when the call came in that the shuttle had arrived. The captain changed his direction to meet the new chief in person.

The doors of the bay swooshed open and DaVinci stepped inside. Quiggly was just exiting the shuttle, so he waited patiently until the CE boots hit the deck. . . .

Smiling at the site of being on a proper ship finally he stepped off the ramp and looked directly at the Captain. He knew it was the Captain from the records he’d been reading on the way. Well. This is new.. He said to himself as he stepped away and went straight to the Captain putting his bags down and saluting. “Lieutenant Commander Matthew Quigley Chief Engineer, Reporting for duty sir. Permission to board to the Saracen?”. He waited for the reply at attention and saluting.

“At ease, Lt. Cmdr. Permission granted.”

He held out his right hand and added, “Welcome to the Saracen, Mr. Quiggly.”

Matthew went to at ease and grasped the Captains hand. “Thank you for having me sir and for this wonderful opportunity. “. He let go of the Captain’s hand. “How have you been doing sir? Any issues with the ship that I need to be aware of immediately?”
