Allison Scott looked at her watch. She had sent a memorandum out several weeks ago to random crew members about the emergency preparedness medical drill. On the Ogawa, they had performed these drills a few times but every port was a medical emergency and no one tended to be shooting at them. On the Saracen, they had red alert drills for when people were shooting at them but never casualty drills. To her, this was the perfect combination of both and would give her staff a chance to see her not as the “other doctor” but the medical chief. The alarm dinged on her watch and Ally hit the pre-recorded message programmed into the ship.
=/\=Lt. Tobias Rax=/\= The artificial voice piped through his comm badge. It carried the slightly up beat voice of a woman. =/\=The Emergency Preparedness Drill is now commencing. You have been assigned a tibial fracture. The tibia is the larger of the two bones in the lower leg and supports the majority of your body weight. It plays a vital role in proper body movement, especially for ankle and knee mechanics. When this vital bone is broken or cracked, it’s called a tibial fracture.
Typically, tibial fractures involve breaks due to traumatic injury. Your symptoms will vary depending on how bad the fracture is. To make this as realistic as possible, a list of symptoms for you to report are included below. You may experience:intense pain in your lower leg
difficulty walking, running, or kicking
numbness or tingling in your foot
inability to bear weight on your injured leg
deformity in your lower leg, knee, shin, or ankle area
bone protruding through a skin break
limited bending motion in and around your knee
swelling around the site of your injury
bruising and blueness on your injured leg.At the sound of the tone, please call the medical staff and report your injury. Thank you in advance for your time=/\=

Tobias absorbed his role with eager anticipation, thrilled to participate in the medical emergency preparedness drills. Positioning himself strategically in one of the science labs, he aimed to elevate the complexity of the scenario, envisioning the chaos of an actual attack unfolding in the very space where he’d be stationed during such emergencies. As the computer finalised the setup, Tobias assumed a hunched position over a scientific desk, immersing himself in the role. The room had been meticulously prepared, complete with a sparking console, billowing smoke, and scattered debris—all rendered holographically using the portable devices ingeniously provided by the engineering team. To enhance the realism, he had even donned a uniform marred by burns and tears, applying makeup to mimic injuries.
“Computer, initiate Scenario,” Tobias commanded as the lights dimmed, casting the room in an ominous red hue indicative of a silent red alert.

Ally stood in sick bay stretch out her hamstrings as if about to go on a run. Anyone walking by the space might back up and call counseling seeing the medical staff doing everything one would in the gym but not in sickbay. Some people might call this cheating on the drill but Ally didn’t care. She was always in it to win it. As the comm calls began to come in, Ally started assigning them so that everyone had a place to go.Grabbing her medical bag, Ally hit her comm badge. =^= On my way =^= she stated. As soon as the handle hit her hand, Ally took off at a dead run. Her hair was in its characteristic high ponytail and swung back and forth as she tore down the hall issuing the occasional make a hole or clear the hall command.
Reaching Science Lab Three, Ally hit the door console but came to a screeching seeing the room. “What the hell,” she stated with an open mouth as her eyes took in the devastation. She sputtered out several quick coughs bringing her elbow up to cover her mouth. Seeing the sparking console, Ally grabbed the fire suppression canister against the wall yelled out. “Don’t move. I am coming for you.”
As Ally burst into Science Lab Three, Tobias, feigning injury as part of the training exercise, remained hunched over the desk, adding to the realism of the scenario. He kept his movements subtle, wincing and groaning softly to simulate the effects of the simulated disaster. Despite the chaos around him, Tobias maintained his focus, waiting for Ally to react to the situation. “Doctor!” He shouted.
Ally’s father was a cop and not a fire fighter but she had met enough firemen in her childhood. Scanning the room, she ran through the checklist in her mind as to what firemen had told her to do in a fire. Aiming at the sparking console, she opened the canister up and began to unleash streams of fire resistant foam all over the space and anything else that was sparking or smoking. The fluffy white foam looked like whipped topping but immediately set into stone on anything it touched. After hosing down the space, Ally tossed the container over her shoulder, pulled her medical bag strap across her chest, and began to army crawl through the debris. “Where are you? I am coming for you,” she yelled out.
Tobias, still maintaining his position, responded with a strained voice, “Over here, by the console.” He made sure his voice carried a hint of urgency, adding to the authenticity of the simulation.
Later video of the situation would make Ally look like a luncatic. The holograms would not show on the camera but to her it was unexpected and real. Her devotion to her patients however would be seen clearly and possibly be used on the Saracen home movie nights in the future.
ALly Scott.
As her figure became clearer through the simulated smoke, Tobias momentarily forgot himself. Her blonde hair, a little frantic, wisps escaping their usual confines covered parts of her face and clung to her cheek. Yet, it was her piercing green eyes, flecked with gold, that drew his attention the most. Tobias, not one to typically stop and stare, found himself momentarily captivated by her presence. However, he quickly remembered his role and began moaning and groaning again, pretending to be in fake pain, calling out for help as if he were truly injured and then slumped to the floor coughing and clutching for his leg. “Over here!”

USS SaracenAlly crawled faster and flung her medipack off her shoulder the second she reached him. Unfortunately her aim did not let the case land on the floor but smack Tobias in the side of the head. The clunk was akin to whacking your head on a cabinet door or shelf when one wasn’t paying attention. Ally did not seem to notice what she had done staring down at his leg. “Ensign Tobias,” she touched his leg where his one hand was clutching. “Where does it hurt?”

Tobias let out another groan, this one genuine, as he rubbed his head where the case had struck him.
“Did you hit your head,” she asked turning her attention to his face. Tobias was what her mother called a looker. He was easy on the eyes and if they weren’t in a smoke-filled room but the lounge, he would catch her eye. Reaching up she pulled the hair back from his hairline near the spot he was rubbing. “Well I see a red spot but that might just be from you rubbing it.” Her tone was less medical and more off duty as was her gaze. As science guys went this officer seemed less lab and more field work than she was used to. “Ensign,” she drew out his rank forgetting for the moment who called her down here.
Feeling the simulated pain intensify, he emitted a guttural cry as Ally’s hand made contact with his leg, simulating the location of his supposed injury. “Right there,” he managed to articulate, pointing to where her hand rested, as he maintained the facade of agony associated with a tibial fracture. Fumbling in the darkness, he located the PaDD containing his symptoms and handed it to her, the list of indicators mirroring the simulated distress he was portraying: intense pain in his lower leg, difficulty bearing weight, numbness, and tingling sensations, among others.

USS SaracenAlly took the PaDD and tossed it aside. “No PaDD’s,” she stated pausing for a second before grabbing her own PaDD and starting to type. “I should have came to science to design a better experiment. If you broke your leg like this, it would be more grunts and moans.” Typing in a note to add this to the next set of emails she turned her attention back to Rax. “Okay let’s try it again but more grunting.” This experiment was not turning into the chore she thought it was going to be. It was becoming far more fun. The question was whether Tobias thought so too. Pulling out a scalpel, Ally cut the length of his trousers up to his knee.

Tobias couldn’t help but chuckle at the unexpected turn of events, finding the exchange and the bump to his head strangely amusing. The situation had become a bit more fun than he had initially anticipated. As the medical officer wrapped his leg over his trousers, he felt a sense of relief when she stopped at his knee, sparing him from the chill of her hands further up. Bracing himself for the cold touch, he continued to grunt and moan on cue, simulating the pain as ordered. “I’m not going to die, am I, doc?” he quipped, his voice laced with half-hearted agony as he injected a touch of humor into the situation. “I only ask because they say angels visit you just before your death.”

USS Saracen“What do you think I am some heartless heathen that uses leeches and poking a spot while saying does this hurt?” Her tone was full of humor and she fought back a smile trying to spread over her mouth as Ally pretended to be cross. Bringing her hands up to her mouth, she blew on them and rubbed them vigorously for a few seconds before gently touching his calf with her fingertips.
The touch on his calf send electricity up his leg, his hairs reacting by standing on end. He tried to ignore the close proximity they shared.
“Don’t answer that,” she said in a half chuckle. “We need to be serious. Now does this hurt.” The moment the words came from her mouth she let out a full laugh and sigh.
“You know Mr. Rax you are making this far more fun than academic and remember to grunt out your responses.” Wagging her head back and forth as if debating a thought in her head, she added, “I will allow some teeth-grinding words but only sparingly. Now back to triage, does this hurt?” Ally was having too much fun. To add to the simulation she pinched a few of his leg hairs in her finger tips and pulled.
Ally Scott CMO
Grunting out his responses through gritted teeth, part in simulation part in actual pain from having his hairs pulled, “Yes, oh, it hurts!” He tried not to laugh but he felt they’d past a point of no return, through his gritted teeth, “Please call me Tobias Doc.”

USS SaracenAlly opened her bag and pulled out two packages that were each about the size of a deck of cards. Taking off the wrapping she began to unfold them as if were origami in reverse. The objects eventually looked like a long, semi-rigid single ace bandages. Taking her scissors, she cut his land leg up another three inches so it was now torn to the length of where an athletic short would be. It would be breezy but still regulation and not short enough to make old church ladies gasp and point if he walked down the halls. “You can call me Angle of Deck Five or Ally. Whichever you prefer is fine,” she spoke in a neutral tone avoiding his eyes. If she had looked at him, Ally would not have been able to continue the semi-neutral expression on her face. “I might also have to buy you dinner after this next part Tobias,” she said in a much softer and more flirty tone as she took the two pieces of bandages and began to inch them up his pant leg farther than she had cut.
“That sounds like a plan” he said also avoiding eye contact, but pretending he was suddenly interested in whatever the computer had on the screen as his skin and receptors registered her finger tips.
Her fingertips were well above the knee and inching towards what her grandmother referred to as the neutral zone of nethers. She still had several inches to go before she broke any intergalactic treaties but to close enough for a helmsman to scream Captain we have a Romulan ship off our port bow. Ally could feel the muscles in Tobias’ leg tense up and she avoided checking out if the landscape was as toned as her tactile sense was telling her. When she got it to the correct spot, Ally put her palms on either side of the semi-rigid fabric and pressed hard against the outside and inside of his thigh.
Tobias breathed in firstly because of the oddly intense proximity to Ally, her hand position and now the pressure she was excreting in his thigh causing the blood flow to slow.
Within a breath, the bandages instantly became stiff as a bulkhead completely immobilizing Tobias’ leg from high on his upper thigh to his calf as if it were encased in concrete. Looking at his face, Ally asked, “so how does that feel?”
Ally Scott CMO
A little light headed from all sudden burst of feelings physically and mentally Tobias looked to his now immobile leg, “Numb?” He said, “How long can this stay in until my leg falls of?” He asked jokingly then related but with more grunt and moaning.
