Allison Scott looked at her watch. She had sent a memorandum out several weeks ago to random crew members about the emergency preparedness medical drill. On the Ogawa, they had performed these drills a few times but every port was a medical emergency and no one tended to be shooting at them. On the Saracen, they had red alert drills for when people were shooting at them but never casualty drills. To her, this was the perfect combination of both and would give her staff a chance to see her not as the “other doctor” but the medical chief.

The alarm dinged on her watch and Ally hit the pre-recorded message programmed into the ship.

You have been assigned a plasma burn. This is a chemical burn where your skin and/or eyes come in contact with a harsh irritant, such as acid or a base or plasma. Substances that cause chemical burns include Chlorine, Ammonia, Bleach, Acids, Bases, and plasma.

Your Symptoms can range from:

Redness, irritation, pain numbness or burning at the site of contact.
Formation of blisters or black dead skin at the contact site.
Vision changes if the chemical gets into the eyes.
Shortness of breath is inhaled.
Vomiting if ingested.
Low blood pressure resulting in faintness, weakness, dizziness
Shortness of breath or severe cough
Headache
Muscle twitching or seizures,
Cardiac arrest or irregular heartbeat
