USS Saracen

Pre sim-Arrival on the ship

Saatynn frowned as he stepped off the transporter pad, he had a slight headache brewing, right in a spot that would make him feel like his head was being ripped open. He gave a nod to the operator, before moving further into the ship. Headaches had plagued him regularly since he left Vulcan, and probably before that, but he hadn’t begun noticing them until he had left. And now he didn’t have access to Linna to help him, which caused him irritation.

That woman always called him illogical, but they were truly in love, he knew simply because she stuck with him. I need to remember to come back alive and in one piece he thought, looking at the PADD he was using for a map, as he came to his quarters. He groaned a little as he sat down on the couch and closed his eyes, letting his head dip into a natural arc. He lightly touched the tips of his fingers together so both hands formed round arches along the path between fingers.

While most Vulcans used meditation as a way to logic and emotional suppression, Saatynn used it for his own reasons. He imagined his emotions as jars, each one filled completely, and closed. He checked the label of each one, before opening it, leaving a few, such as violence, tightly closed. As each one was opened, the emotions flooded out and colored the world in his head, creating a beautiful reconstruction of San Francisco as seen from the grounds of Starfleet Academy.

He had modified the imagery years ago on Vulcan in his classes, the normal version had all the jars open, and one had to close them, signifying the containment of their emotions. He had developed the technique to help him cope with the flood of emotions he often experienced in stressful situations. After a few minutes savoring the image of the Academy grounds, he opened his eyes.

His headache was 95% gone, now just the dullest of aches behind one eye, something he could manage. Normally he’d use a different mental image, but this one was adequate for the circumstances, and he didn’t have much time.

He stood up, grabbed his PADD, and brought up a map to where the CSO’s office was, before heading out.
