Flynn brushed his uniform down as he stepped out of the assigned room. He’d only stopped long enough to drop his bag off and pause in front of the mirror to make sure not a hair out of place. Once confident he looked every inch the perfect charming officer he wanted to present, he started down the familiar route to the Counselors office. It didn’t take him long before he spied a pretty young Ensign ahead concentrating on something on her PADD. Carefully he adjusted his gait from one of confidence to one less sure as if he was lost. As the distance closed he pretended to look around as if he was lost, eyeing the Ensign to see if she’d notice or react.
Hearing his footsteps, as he had predicted, she looked up and stopped. “Are you okay?” She asked a slightly musical lilt to her voice.
Flynn flashed her a sheepish smile, and bit back a smirk as she immediately relaxed knowing that his fine features were having the desired disarming affect.”I’m looking for the turbo lift, I’m supposed to be checking in with the Counselor in 15 minutes, but I’m not sure if I’m on the right path or not,”
“New on board?” She smiled, “I can assure you are on the right track, just down the end of the next corridor. ”
“Thank you, Ensign…” Flynn trailed off and raised a quizzical eyebrow.
“Harris”
“Thank you Ensign Harris, I’ll owe you a drink sometime as a sign of gratitude,” he looked down at his PAAD, pretending not to notice her rising blush, “My, look at the time I should be on the way. Thank you once again for the directions,”
He gave her a nod and kept a brisk pace as he walked away, as if he really was late when in reality the interaction had taken less time than he had expected. However, it had done what he’d needed the mental game exercise had left him feeling prepared for his appointment.
As he smoothed his hair and uniform down, one final time, he reached out and rung the chime to let her know he had arrived. He felt ready for this new Counselor, whatever she may have in store.
Lt. (J.g) Flynn
Sheleah had just finished a bit of light cleaning and giving Rex his midday meal when the time rang. Stepping to the replicator she got a second cup of coffee and slid behind the desk before responding to her
“Open.”
- Sheleah
The doors slid open to reveal the Flynn waiting on the other side. The handsome young Lt. (j.g) was neatly presented, not a stitch or a hair out of place. He looked young, like he was in his mid 20s although his profile said that he was 31. “Lt. (j.g.) Flynn reporting for my check in, ma’am” Flynn introduced himself, flashing one of his charming smiles at Sheleah as he looked her over, taking in what he could see and looking for more subtle clues about what he could learn about her.
Then, keeping his posture perfect, he cast his eyes around the office wondering if there were more clues to be gleaned from there, noting the cleanliness of the space. His eyes barely stopped on Rex as if the creature wasn’t even there.
Lt. (j.g.) Flynn (Sec)
“Well, come on in and have a seat Mr Flynn. Help yourself to the replicator if you like and don’t mind Rex in the cat tree. He only comes down for snacks and cuddles.”
Sheleah could already tell this one had keen skills of observation. Perhaps he led with them and hopefully they didn’t lead him down the wrong road of misjudging situations.
- Sheleah, CNS/DO
Flynn side eyed Rex as if only noticing him for the first time, then his eyes slipped back to Sheleah and he flashed her one of his charming smiles. “Thank you, Counselor, but I’m all good, had plenty of time to eat on the trip to the ship.”
Taking the offered seat, Flynn sat with the air of confidence contrary to the usual nervous mannerisms that Sheleah was undoubtedly used to on most check ins, especially those of young junior officers.
Lt. (j.g.) Flynn, Sec
Sheleah had the feeling this was the type of person that just wanted to get straight to it. Whether he thought he was a charmer or just very businesslike she would determine as the interview proceeded.
“I’m certain I could look at your service record and find out everything I want to know. That’s all black and white as they say. That’s not my style. Tell me about yourself and we’ll take it from there.”
She figured if he could get down to business, so could she. That’s not to say her warm heart wouldn’t probably show through by the end of the session but that’s how things would play out for now.
- Sheleah, CNS/DO
Tell me about yourself Flynn could have rolled his eyes, and wondered if this was some sort of script every counselor was given when they were handed their diploma. Well, he had been enough times now he had his own script. “Well I’m not really sure what to say ma’am,” he flashed her a smile, one more like that of a shy Oklahoma boy although it didn’t have the drawl to go with it. “I’m a simple boy from Earth, grew up in Las Angeles, I have 3 brothers, my father was an Admiral for the fleet, and some day I hope to do him proud. I’m a decent security officer, finished top in my class back in the Academy, and I like to think I’ve served all my postings well.”
He paused, letting Sheleah absorb the information. He’d deliberately left out a few things, including that wasn’t his first time being stationed on the Saracen, or that the last time he had been there he had been a regular visitor to the Counselor at the time, Sinclair.
Lt. (j.g.) Flynn, Sec
Sheleah looked back at him with cool observational skills. She knew that people like the one sitting in front of her love to talk about themselves. She had just given him the chance to do exactly that and he came off with the second right script? No, this wouldn’t do it all.
“When you’re ready to put some flesh on that bare Bones of a story mr, come back and see me. We have to trust each other on this ship and I don’t expect you to trust me right here right now but I do expect you to be honest with me. You’re not doing that to the capacity that is necessary to fulfill this interview. I don’t appreciate that and I don’t deserve that. Dismissed.”
- Sheleah, CNS/DO
For a brief second his perfectly schooled expression flickered into a look of shock, maybe at being dismissed so easily. His hands curled into fists so tight he could feel his nails digging into the palms of his hands. What was it about the counselors on the Saracen that made them so much harder to dupe than the rest, and Sheleah being a female who normally always fell for his smile and good looks. What was it about them that wanted to go straight for the nitty gritty and forget about the sunshine and rainbows.
Then the mask slid back into place. He flicked a bit of dust off of his uniform and stood up. “Very well, ” he said, his eyes locked with hers, “Rest assured Counselor, everything I told you was the truth. I wouldn’t disrespect you in such a manner,” He winked, “I am fine security officer; I do a good job of and if I’m not the best at something I make myself be the best at it. But if you are here thinking I’ll roll over and bare my belly off the bat with some great confession about Elaine, like the previous, that won’t happen.”
He walked to the door and paused, the air of control that he had exuded, when he had walked in had come back in those few steps. Though Sheleah would know she had shaken him, “I look forward to seeing you again,”
Lt. (j.g.) Flynn, Sec
OOC: Was wondering how the nice, sweet counselor would play it. That was well played.
I’ll leave it up to you if you want to continue on this thread or create one later.
