“Not even if you get the old adrenaline pumping to counteract the synthehol?” Dante asked as the waiter returned to the table with their orders, noticeably with a rolling trolley and not just a dish he could carry and began to lay them out. “I’ll swap you some spinakopita for a fritter” he smiled, looking over the dishes as the smell of the various foods reached him, especially the black bean dips.
Satreya slipped one of the crispy fried fritters onto his plate and helped herself to one of the spinach pastries. “Synth is… weird for me, but it’s mostly okay. The substance that makes it flood out a person’s system so easily and gives them back their reactiveness moves out of my system slower.” She smirked. “I have a very quirk biochemistry.”
“Or, would you consider a second glass if I had something for you?” He asked her as he reached into his pocket and took out a small box, holding it out for a moment. “Something to celebrate for? After what happened in our last mission I think we all need a little something to celebrate, and you deserve this, I don’t ask just anybody.”
Her mouth dropped open. He had clearly been holding any thoughts of his little surprise for her quite deep and since it would be rude to actually read your CO’s mind without permission, she had been trying to be good. “Well Captain, my last husband was a Prince! Think you’re going to top that?” she said with a teasing grin and she took the box from him.
Inside the box were the shiny new pips of a Lieutenant Commander, waiting for their new owner to wear them with pride.

Okay, yep she was surprised and certainly hadn’t seen that coming. “Oh, wow. uh…” Her dark eyes shifted upwards and her expression shifted into a small but warm smile. “Thank you. I’m honoured.” Being a Chief of her own medical department had been about the only goal her ambition had prodded her towards and she had achieved that long ago. These days she had been mostly happy to just keep things ticking over and keep her crew healthy. It was, nonetheless, greatly appreciated.
“Maybe a second glass wouldn’t be too terrible,” she eventually added.
