Charles arrived promptly to the CNS office for his onboarding appointment. It was important to make a good first impression with the senior staff. Besides, the sooner he could be done with the appointment, the sooner he could get to work. He had been reviewing the schematics and the operations manuals for Pendragon class ships, but was eager to finally see these systems in action. All he had to do was talk to a counselor for about 30 minutes or so.

Sheleah had just finished a late lunch and bath day for Rex therefore she was just getting back tot he office around the time Charles arrived himself.

“Well hello up there. You must be my after lunch appointment. Come in and have a seat.” she gestured and stepped into her office.

“Yes, I am Ensign Charles-Louis, as you have discerned.” he said, following Sheleah into the office at a leisurely pace. He paced around the room for a bit, quietly examining if there was anything of interest on display in the office. Finally he made his way over to the chair that would guessed would be opposite hers.

There was a slight thud as Charles sat down on it. It seemed to squeak in protest as he adjusted to a comfortable position. He had to flex his knees outward slightly in order to fit on the chair. Once settled, his attention snapped by to the Lieutenant.

“ It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Lieutenant.” he said with what was supposed to be a friendly smile.

Sheleah thought the scene quite comical and would certainly laugh aobut it later.

“If you would be more comfortable here on the couch I would be very happy to join you. I find that after a big lunch, I personally prefer it to sitting behind my desk.”

Sheleah picked up a few things from her desk, walked to her couch, and sat down. Her office consisted of the standard desk and chair set up with a small couch and large cat tree on one side and a small book shelf and windchimes on the other.

“Non, merci,” Charles insisted, “I will be fine sitting here.” Perhaps this was due to some sense of pride, or just to put a respectful distance between him and his superior officer. Charles watched her sit down on the couch, uncharacteristically quite. After a pause he started to speak,

“You have a pet, yes?” Charles asked, nodding toward the cat tree.

Sheleah nodded and smiled. THis was one of the few times Rex was not in the office. After his bath, he loved a long play date with one of the friends he had made aboard ship so, she tried to schedule that whenever possible.

“Yes I do. My Ocelot, Rex, is at a friend’s quarters probably chasing little red balls and napping by now. On the corner of my desk is a holocube with a lot of pictures. Feel free to take a look if you like. Please, I’m very curious to find out about your academy days.”

Charles reached over to her desk, chair squeaking underneath him with every moment. He helped himself to the holocube and casually scrolled through the pictures as he talked.

“Ah, yes. Well, I went through just like everyone else, in Marseille. Though I was not expecting so many… children.”

He let out a small laugh. “It is true I was older than the majority in my classes. That was to be expected. That is not to say that a younger person could not be an exceptional officer, no. But the material they were teaching was definitely more appropriate for the younger ones. I found some of the information redundant.”
