“As I am, I’m Corinne Dalton. Cori, if you prefer. Most of my friends always called me that. But when I’m in the system and acting on behalf of the ship, I’m Sarah. It’s a pretty messy acronym someone came up with that we’ve just gone with. It fit, since I am for all intents and purposes the Saracen, and the Saracen is me. But, we can also be separate.” It was complicated, but she was sure he had that already figured out.

Sinclair nodded and said “Ok, Cori. I just have a few questions for you. Although I’m pretty sure those are going to lead into a few more.” he said with a slight chuckle. His Scottish brogue lent an informal quality to his words, and the smile added to the friendliness of his demeanor. “So first, and just bear with me here for a minute or two… how are you feeling? Emotionally, that is.” he asked. He wasn’t sure if she still experienced emotions as he knew them, but there were a few clues that led him to believe she did.

She laughed lightly, her tone holding a slight amount of bitterness. “Oh you know, could be worse. Ended a relationship, stuck in an eternal computer based experience until the ship’s computer fails entirely or the ship itself is destroyed. Umm, hmm, what else…?” She shrugged, seeming amused. “What do you want me to say. It’s a bit lonely on this ship when most people view you with suspicion or outright disdain. Or, even better, forget you exist entirely.”

Sinclair made a few notes with an actual pen on a notepad of paper on his knee. He then looked at her and said “What kind of relationship, if you don’t mind me asking?”

Cori almost smirked. Almost. “Exactly what you think it was, a romantic relationship.” Her expression slipped into one more thoughtful and sad. “But… sometimes you can love someone and it’s not enough. For either of you.” She shrugged.

“That is too true, unfortunately. How long ago did this end? And is the person you were involved with still aboard?” Sinclair asked. Even such direct questions were delivered in a non-aggressive manner. Whether or not it was intentional, Sinclair did not seem to pry. He simply asked questions. Answers were up to the person being interviewed.
