A moment later there was the same voice he had heard earlier sounding in his office. “Well, here she is. What can I do for you, Commander?” It was possible that there was a slight tinge of amusement in her voice, or it could very well be a figment of his imagination.

Without batting an eye, Sinclair responded to the voice “You are far past due for your fitness evaluation, Lieutenant. As I am tasked with ensuring that all members of the crew are fit for duty, I need to have a talk with you. Is now a good time?” he asked and then laughed out loud and smiled broadly. “I have to admit. This is a first for me. I usually have the crew member physically here in my office. So you and I are going have to work together to make this work in a way I can justify to Starfleet Command. I doubt that they would accept ‘Officer presented as disembodied voice and assessment followed.’ as a solid evaluation of your mental and emotional health.” and he laughed again and shook his head. He then took a deep breath and added. “And just so we are clear. I am not here to judge. I am here to simply here to talk and offer advice, if necessary. Although… I don’t what I can offer to you specifically. We will have to see. They didn’t really cover this sort of thing in Counselor Training. Or maybe I skipped that day.” and he smiled good naturedly.

A light laugh sounded. “Well, though I was graced with a promotion in rank, I’m not exactly a crew member in the same way you as far as Starfleet is concerned so I’m not subject to the same regulations. However, I don’t mind having a chat if you’re concerned. As it happens, I am mobile about the ship. Where would you like to have this little conversation of ours?” Corinne asked, seeming highly amused.

Sinclair nodded in agreement, but said “Not all of the regulations, no. But anyone, regardless of species or… can I say ‘current consciousness framework’?…” and he laughed a bit, “… has to have an evaluation regardless of duty assignment. Now, I will say that no one told me about you prior to my arrival. I’m gonna chalk that up to hazing the new guy.” and he smiled. “So go easy on me, will you? It’s my first day.” and he leaned back in his chair a bit. “And let’s talk here, if you don’t mind. This is where my chair is, after all.” he added with another chuckle.
