Brenna made her way down to deck 5 and the CNS office to find out there was no CNS on board presently. Brenna shrugged, that was fine, she’d had an eval when the Connie had been decommissioned. Hers could wait a bit. She would make sure to make an appointment later. She made her way back to deck 3. Geri stood up as the door to her quarters opened and walked over nudging the palm of her left hand. “Good boy.” She ruffled his ears and patted her leg. “Let’s go.” The three huskies followed her out the door and onto the lift back to deck 5 and medical. The new security chief walked into the waiting area of the main medical bay, the three huskies trailing in her wake, sat themselves near the wall and waited. She stopped a nearby nurse. “Lt Cmdr Atoded and…escort, for our medical eval.”

Lt Cmdr Atoded, CoS

“They look more like dinner to me,” the low and gruff voice came from a large Klingon who stepped out from one of the Offices in the medical ward and began to walk towards Atoded. He was tall, wore the standard Starfleet Medical colours but also a Klingon House sash, fingerless leather gloves with metal studded knuckles and sported a shaved head, metal eye-patch that appeared as if it was stapled to his skin. His braided black goatee was adorned with many small metal beads and the eye-patch was engraved with two daggers crossed over a flaming background.

The man reminded her of Ch’otok and that made her homesick for a moment and she wondered if he and Cassandra were alright. She would have to try and contact them. “Well as long as they die fighting it’s a good way to go.”

“It definitely makes the meat taste better,” the big Klingon agreed.

“Now, what is wrong with you today?” The big Klingon asked. “I didn’t catch what you said at first, I was more focused on Rib, Lion and Brisket over there sitting in my Medical Bay,” he pronounced the last words slowly and louder than the rest. “I thought only us Klingons allowed beasts in our clean areas, or are they just a weird alien species of Federation Officer I have never seen before?”

Lt Do’trahk of House Kholl, Doctor

“Lt Cmdr Breena Atoded, new CoS. We are here for our onboarding medical exam. No they aren’t a weird alien species. Terran Siberian Huskies. They are working dogs. Thought I would bring them with me so you can make sure they are healthy since they will out and about the ship. I can have them wait outside.” Breena had known a lot of doctors in her time, and they were all protective of their space. Nice to know something’s never changed.

Atoded, CoS

“No, they can stay. If they misbehave I’ll just kill them.” Do’trahk said matter of factly and picked up a nearby medical tricorder. “I’m sure you have them under your full control though, Commander Atoded, and I will not have to resort to such measures. I am Lieutenant Do’trahk, son of Kholl.” The way that he said Lieutenant seemed as if it was a distasteful sound rolling off his tongue, but he raised the tricorder and began the scan.

Brenna inclined her head slightly, “An honor Do’trahk, son of Kholl.” The scan would show a series of injuries over many years that were completely healed, high muscle tone, normal heart rate and blood pressure, and normal paracortex activity for a Betazoid.

“So, do you use dogs in your work to cover for any inadequacy in your skills or are they used to intimidate other members of the crew?” Looking at the dogs for a moment, he shook his head. “Hmph, they are too pretty to intimidate anyone.” Looking at the Tricorder, he lifted the eyebrow that was above his one good eye a moment and looked at her.

Lt Do’trahk of House Kholl, Doctor

“I tend to think of them as partners with complimentary skill sets, but they were part a previous assignment and now that it’s over they are my responsibility.” Brenna met his gaze with a grin, “Ah but looks are very deceiving, doctor.”

Atoded, CoS

“You aren’t going to give me any of that it’s what’s on the inside rubbish are you?” Do’trahk asked and made a face. “I can tell you what’s on the inside, blood, gore, gristle and faeces. It’s what’s on the outside that definitely counts.” There might have been a twitch of the eye like he was keeping a straight face, maybe, but he only had one eye and it was practiced.

Atoded chuckled, “Hardly, but the outside isn’t always what it appears to be. Besides, in the end, we are all just blood, gore, gristle, and feces on the inside.”

“Speak for yourself,” Do’trahk deadpanned. “I am also at least 3 pounds Gagh.”

He turned his head and looked at the three animals, then back at Atoded. “Partners huh?” He shrugged. “If you say so, Commander. Your scan is complete and you are healthy enough to be cleared for duty.” Lowering the tricorder, he turned and placed it to one side and then picked up a PaDD, entering a number of keywords and looking up her medical records ticking off the remaining boxes around vaccinations and yearly checks.

“You may want to avoid taking those things in to see the Captain,” Do’trahk told her. “His lizard get jealous and is overprotective of him and his family. I would hate to see one of them in here missing a leg.” Finishing with the PaDD, he picked up the tricorder again and switched a setting over. “Shall we give your partners a once over then?”

Lt Do’trahk of House Kholl, Doctor

“I’ve already been to see the Cpt. Was taken straight from my arrival, I didn’t take them. I would hate for the Capt’s scaly pet to loose part of its tail.” Brenna turned to the dogs, but didn’t say anything. The largest, a black and white stepped right up to Do’trahk and stood on all fours, perfectly still as if he was used to doing such things. The process repeated silently for each: the smallest, brown and white, and then the grey and white.

Atoded, CoS

“Yes, you would,” he agreed. “Fastest way for them to be airlocked is to show themselves as undisciplined beasts.” Scanning over the animals, the big Klingon took the readings and logged them one after the other. Then, the scans completed he stood and flicked over to the results of each.

Breena hurrumphed. “The way you make it sound, the lizard is an undisciplined beast and the captain has a double standard.” If the doctor told her that was the privlages of being a captain, she’d have to seriously consider a transfer. She was done with following self inflated pompas idiots.

“Have they had their required shots? Up to date with worming and flea treatment?”

Lt Do’trahk of House Kholl, Doctor

Breena took an isochip from her picked and handed it over. “They are. Due again in 3 months.”

Atoded, CoS
