Controller Vik looked between Gavain and the non-Galdori officers present. “You must be Gavain, of the Ahshuri clan?” she spoke, welcoming. “Please, introduce me to our guests,” she requested.

“Of course, Controller. This is my captain, Dante Knight. A brave man, from what I have seen of him,” Gavain spoke, his tail twitching at the end. In the absence of eyelids, his slender tongue slapped up to moisten first one eye, then the other. He turned to the Chief Medical Officer. “And this is Lt. Satreya Boja. The chief medical officer aboard the Saracen,” he spoke, moving on to the next officer and so on until he had introduced the entirety of those who had chosen to join them.

“Thank you Lieutenant Gavain” Dante spoke, then addressed the controller again. ” As the Lieutenant as said, I am Captain Knight of the U.S.S. Saracen. Thank you for your invitation to your world and your celebrations” he said to the Laleri, “my Crew and I are most honored by the invitation you have extended.”

Controller Vik nodded, tilting her head slightly to the side. “Come, join us in the banquet room,” she spoke, turning. The walking stick tapped the ground as the elderly alien walked away from the group, expecting them all to follow her.

Satreya followed with a smile, happy to be off the ship for awhile and with the expectation that this was going to an excellent learning opportunity for her. Besides, she liked Gavain and was curious to know more about his world and the peoples on it.

They walked through a few hallways, and ended up being joined by a few other Starfleet Captains. Each Captain was accompanied by a few of his officers, including a Galdori in each case. Finally, the whole lot of them stepped into a lavish dining room, with long tables and dishes ready to enjoy. “We thought that starting by filling any empty stomachs would be wise. This is, after all, a celebration,” one of the well-dressed Controllers spoke, gesturing for everyone to find a seat.

Satreya took a seat and wondered if it was too late to ask about non-meat options and whether anything was replicated. But she knew in the face of diplomacy, she’d simply have to put on a smile and not show any discomfort should she put in an awkward position.

Gavain found a place to sit after a while, spending some time reconnecting with a few of the other Galdori Starfleet officers. They all knew that serving in Starfleet and being able to interact on such a deep level with so many non-Galdori people for such extended periods of time was a great honour… but it was a lonely life. To be away from every other member of your race, to be among people who can become friends, but who are also strangers who don’t understand your cultures and traditions…? It was a great thing to be able to return home, if only for a short time, and be with family once more.

Boja would notice on the table there was a great variety of foods. Some of the food looked similar to meat, but not like it. Other food was definitely the meat of a warm-blooded vertebrate. Other dishes had sea-food, and yet more dishes held unfamiliar protein that she would later learn to be insect meat. And, thankfully for her case, there were vegetarian options. Platters upon platters of stewed root vegetables, fresh fruits, leafy greens, and more unfamiliar options that she would have to ask about to know what they were.

Taking a seat beside Boja and the other Officers from his ship in attendance, Dante looked over the assorted foods and could appreciate a number of them. “Well” he said to his CMO, “it looks more appetizing than Klingon food, nothing is wriggling at least.” He had to grin and looked over at the other tables, nodding to an Officer here and there that he recognized. Taking note of his placing, he looked to see what kind of cutlery was provided and looked up at Boja. “Something tells me these foods are not replicated Doctor, I wonder of they are going to hold speeches before we dine.”

Captain Knight, CO

Satreya spoke softly, just above a whisper so her voice was more background to others that might be listening. “It does look promising for me on the food front, but no idea about the speeches. Gavain will know but I would try to follow the cues of our hosts. If they look expectantly at us while not eating, then it would probably be okay to start. Otherwise, wait until they do. They don’t seem to be the type to try to put you in a position where you would cause offence and I’m not picking up any deception. They seem generally happy to have us here.”
