Mark thought for a second. His only experiences were with basic emergencies regarding mostly humans. He desperately tried to leave Earth for his residency, but he was needs of the Federation. He didn’t have much of a say. “To be honest with you,” He shifted in his chair. “There isn’t much to speak of, but that’s why I’m here.” The doctor grinned. “You don’t need to worry about holding my hand. I’m a quick learner.”

On the desk, a small stack of PADDs began to spin, starting with the uppermost one, and then following down the stack, much like a top. Boja was intently focusing on the stack with her ebony eyes, but there was something of a look of elation etched into her delicate features.

Mark jumped at the sight of the spinning PADDs. It was a shocking thing to witness, but as Mark quickly realized what was happening, he looked at it, not with fear, but with curiosity. The doctor moved his head to look at the PADDs from different angles. He looked up at Boja’s face, then back at the PADDs, then back at her face. A grin crept across the young man’s lips. He studied her concentrated features as she performed the feat.

Still grinning, Mark looked into the CMO’s eyes, still keeping the PADD’s in view. “That’s pretty out of the ordinary.” He laughed.

The PADDs came to a halt and Satreya exhaled slightly, relaxing her body, though the exertion was obvious. She eyed her new junior doctor with a grin. “That it is!” she said with her own laugh before turning more serious. “But as much fun as people’s reactions can be, I demonstrate this so we can have a conversation about it and you are aware. My telekinesis is rare, yes, and it does have its limits. I can only lift so much weight and for the most part I stick to manipulation of small objects- padds, tricorders, switches- that sort of thing. But Mark, in an emergency or under circumstances where I need to exert myself greatly, especially for a long duration, it can be dangerous for me.”

“All medical staff are told this up front when they work with me, but should I over exert myself, treat me like I am have dangerously low blood sugar, because that is more or less what happens. I have an extremely high metabolism and I use up energy very quickly. I eat often and dense amounts of calories, as you’ll probably observe. If I don’t replenish my energy reserves, bad things can happen, up to and including coma, so… give me a glucose injection or get me to eat or drink something. It’s not something that I expect to happen, but I want you to be aware. The last thing I want in an emergency is to pass out on you all. I’m pretty careful, but we can’t predict every situation.”

Mark took in the information rather well. After all, it didn’t seem all that different from diabetic human physiology. The young doctor thought back to his time as a paramedic for his small county in Tennessee. They would often get called as medical standby for the county fair every year. When it came to his diabetic patients, it was always one of two things. They’d either have forgotten to take their insulin, or they’d eat and drink nothing and stand out in the hot sun all day. The combination of the hypoglycemia and the dehydration could be deadly.

Returning his thoughts to his CMO, Mark nodded, making a mental note. “Sounds simple enough.” He grinned slyly. “Don’t let the magic boss lady get too hungry.”

She winked at him. “You got it.” Boja leaned forward and grinned. “Now, questions… about me, Sickbay, the ship. I know you have them, so you might as well get them out now.” It was good he didn’t seem all that fazed by her abilities, though in truth the telekinesis was rarely the problem. It was usually her difficulty in filtering thoughts that proved an issue, if anything.
