It was the Quietest part of the shift, The Saracen had just docked and a flurry of people had come through. Lews had dimissed the others to enjoy the day once the rush had died down. That was how the grey haired man found himself sweeping up the last of the hair on the floor. His tools were put away neatly, and he expected to finish out his day, his last day before moved on. There was a calm zen like quality to the man as he worked.Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocon, Barber
Outside in the corridor, Dante came to the door of the Barber shop on the star base and paused slightly. In his mind, he was thinking of an odd set of notes he had received before leaving for his odd duty time on the base. On a PaDD had arrived a set of crew rotation lists that, among the many, indicated that a Civilian was to be joining the ship to take on the Barber room. He had thought it slightly odd that this note was singled out instead of incorporated among the civilian transfer lists, but he never had time to dwell on it as around 10 seconds after he finished reading the PaDD, it self destructed with a thin wisp of smoke indicating the internals had been fried, completely.
Shrugging off the thought, Dante walked through the doors to find the man, white knee length coat and long hair sweeping up the days takings. “Evening” he said cheerfully, “Did I come in too late for a haircut?” he asked, running his fingers through his mop of once black but now slightly, ever so slightly, dark brown/almost black hair.

Turning one of the chairs. “No Captain, have a seat”, Lews said patting the chair. Then stepping over to grab his kit, warm a few towels. “What do you favor, Captain Knight is it?”
Lews unrolled the roll that held his scissors, razors, and other barber tools. “Can I get you a drink?” Lews said walking past the Captain to turn off the open sign.
Lews Barber
“Am I that late?” He asked the man, noting the turning off of the sign, but sliding into the chair anyway as told, the man did have sharp objects after all.
“If you have somewhere to be I can always come back tomorrow, there is no rush” he said with a smile, “the Saracen is going to be in dock for a while. Lagavulin if I may he said, accepting the drink even if the man did have somewhere to be. On the rocks please.” A haircut and a drink, Dante could almost grow to like that. He was going to have to suggest it to the ships new Barber when he arrived. “About yay long on top” he said, “shorter on the sides and swept back, do you do the beard as well, or just the hair?”
Captain Knight, CO
Lews shook his head, “No Sir, I have time.” Lews reached into lockable cabinet and removed an unlabelled bottle of amber liquid, and a glass. Then tossed a few ice cubes from a bucket that was located inside the cabinet into the glass. Though they looked like square chunks of granite. Then Lews poured the amber liquid into the glass. “I caan do the beard as well, I am fully liscensed Barber.”
Lews handed Captain knight the glass, “Lagavulin 16 year Sir”

Dante took the drink and looked at it for a moment, then at the cabinet and back to the man. With a raised eyebrow, he took a testing sip and then dropped the glass down slightly. The eyebrow rose higher again, but in appreciation. “You just happened to have Lagavulin, 16 year barrel aged hanging around? Real stuff? I thought you had a replicator somewhere.” He sat back into the seat so that the man could do his work, “And you knew who I was” he smiled. “You, Sir, seem to be a man of much talent and information, you could almost pass as a Tailor” he joked, referring to the historic figure that was well known on Deep Space 9 years ago who, while being the stations tailor, had a number of other useful skills.
Captain Knight, CO
Lews laughed, “Lagavulin is mine, though I prefer the 12 year reserve, this was what I could get. As for who you were, there are ships in dock. The Ares, The Gwendolyn, and the Saracen. The Ares is Captain Bremont, and she is rather stern looking, The Gwendowlyn, is Yarok, and your not vulcan. That left Captain Knight on the Saracen, though you haven’t been listed long. The other Captain here about I already know, so I played the odds. I have been a Tinker sir, but never a tailor, I have been a Sailor in Panama once though, rough two weeks tht was. ” Lews looped the cloth over Dantes shoulders and applied a hot towel to his face and neck but leave adaquate room to drink.
Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocon, Barber
He had to nod in agreement, Dante was very un-Vulcan like and with those odds, and anybody watching the ships arrivals and departures, it wasn’t unlikely that people would know who people were, especially the few who wore Captains pips. “Yes I am Captain Knight, Dante when I am here off duty though. The 12 is rather more of a beast when it comes to the flavor punch” he admitted, “but I like the 16’s complex flavors and the extra sweetness tickles me, I have a sweet tooth” he grinned and sipped from the glass again, something rather of a treat after his own supply was quickly drained on the last mission.
He looked at the man in the mirror and watched him work, his age, and slightly eclectic appearance at odds with the dexterous way he handled the comb and scissors. “So a Tinker, but never a Tailor, pity” he joked, “you seem like you would make a good soldier or a spy” and he raised the glass and pointed at the man with his next quip. “My grandmother always had a song she liked about a Sailor, and something to do with Panama. I hope you took your Camera with you, it sounds like a story. What do I call you Mr…?”
Captain Knight, CO
Lews shrugged, his accent was understandable at the moment, but that seemed to change when asked for his name, “Anaeawd(Ana-Aye-ood) Llwelywen(Loo-Ellen) Iarnuuocon(Eye-Earn-Eww-O-KHAN), but most call me Lews(Loose), Mr. Dante. And Yes the Twelve does have a bit more of a punch, but I think that it is a worthy one, an I have no ever been willin to spen’ on the fifty.” Lews continue to meticulously cut away the hair on the Captain’s head towards the length that had been requested.
“I keep pictures in my mind, rarely ever owned a camera of my own, the Welsh are humble people. Soldierin and Spyin, those be a boys dream, and a young man’s game, us old men learned to do something else with life. Me I am a barber plain and simple, have been a bartender, but a soldier, or spy that must have been in another lifetime I’d be sayin” Lews said, turning the chair as he worked, and somehow finding a free hand to refill the Captain’s drink.

Dante mulled over the name and the sudden emphasis on the accent when it was being pronounced, then simply raised his glass in recognition and took a sip. “Mr Lews, I have met Andorians with names easier to pronounce than that.” He grinned, “my grandfather always said he must have been such and such in another lifetime, and of course he was, when a much younger man and less worldly.” He paused a moment and took his drink again. “After our last mission I’m glad to see the Federation again, hard to pronounce names and all. Do you know of anywhere on the Station that sells jewelry at all? Rings for example?”
Captain Knight, CO
Lews chuckled slightly, “I get that often Dante, so no worries, and it is just Lews, Mister is for nameless enisgns and warrant officers. I have always worked for my living,” Lews said with a half smile, “Andorians are at best blue skinned imitation Welshmen, Something else your great father might have said, ‘Beware the old men that mastered the young mens game’ ” Finishing up the shave and beard trim. “Just relax and finish your drink and then your good to go to Deck three and see a Bolian named Tronov, tell him I sent you, and you like roses, he should suit your needs perfectly”
Anaeawd Llewelyn Iarnuuocon, Barber
Dante shook his head slightly at the mysterious Lews, the man seemed to be aware of things that Dante couldn’t imagine how he knew. The thought of telepathy ran through his mind, but that trait was far and few between humans to the point of being an extreme rarity. He looked in the mirror and turned his head left and right once, then pointed his chin up and smiled. “Very nice Lews” he complimented the man, “You have a steady hand and a keen eye”. Then he tipped his glass and finished the liquor, offering the empty to him not for a refill but so as not to place the thing on the barber bench and pushed himself to his feet, adjusting his clothing.
“Deck three, A Bolian named Tronov. Got it” he said producing his Federation Credit card. Starfleet had little use for currency among themselves, but Civilians still needed to make a living. “A barber and a bartender, I definitely need to arrange something of the sort on the Saracen” he said with a grin.
Captain Knight, CO
It was not about the credits that made Lews enjoy what he did but it was the rules of the game so, Lews accepted the card and made the transaction complete. Then nodded to the Captain, “Ask the Bolian about the Roses, Sir, that will be important” Lews winked as he handed the card back. He made no comment towards the Saracen or her need of a barber or bartender. That was the Captains business not a Barbers.

Dante nodded his thanks and gave the man a smile as he turned for the door. “It sounds like this should be interesting” he said, “I’ll head up and look into that now. Thank you Lews, and for the drink” he said with a grin, “next time I see you we will need to get a 12 and a 16 and put them to the test, minus the sharp objects.”
Stepping out of the shop, he moved a short distance to the nearest turbo-lift and from there mere moments later stepped onto deck three. I few more moments of walking the open space brought him in front of a small store that appeared to have, among a small number of other things, jewelry. Turning the ring over in his pocket with his fingers, he stepped into the store and began to look around. Lews’ words about asking the Bolian, Tronov, about the Roses were mysterious and Dante wasn’t quite sure what to expect but the man did exude a quality of calm confidence, as if what he was saying was absolutely correct and not in the cocky, know all way. His demeanor had been completely of the wise and knowledgeable type of ‘been there and done that and you can take my advice or leave it’. Dante didn’t intend on leaving it.
Captain Knight, CO
There was a Bolian female, whose skin was a lighter shade of blue almost lilac, that looked up from the vase she was arranging simple white and pink roses in for on of the displays in the shop. The woman looked the Captain over and smiled, “How can I help you sir?” She asked as she stepped aroung the counter leaving her task to the side for a moment to assisst a customer. That he had a fresh hair cut, and trim was not lost on her. Nor the look in his eye that said he was hunting something special.
Klorn the Bolian
“Evening” Dante said pleasantly as his eyes took in the shop for a moments longer, then he turned to the woman. “I was wondering if Tronov is available?” he asked her, “I was told to ask about something. I’m looking for a little something and I hear Tronov is the Bolian to speak to?”
Captain Knight
Klorn chuckled, “And what do you seek from Tronov?” she asked, Lews and his word games, she shook her head, obviously the Captain needed something special and lews had decided to help him out for some reason. The man had always collected strays Klorn thought.
Klorn the Bolian
“As a matter of fact, a ring” Dante admitted. “I’m looking to acquire a new engagement ring for my fiancee” he took the small black box out of his pocket and held it up briefly, “this one has some history behind it that while good to look back and remember where we came from, it’s better to look forward to the new.” He turned the small box over in his fingers a few times and then looked back at the woman. “I was told to ask about the roses?”
Captain Knight, CO
Klorn nodded and smiled, so that was the game. Lews was an incurable romantic for anyone other than himself. Klorn shook her head. “The Roses, are you perchance Russian you don’t sound it. Though guess I wouldn’t really know.” Klorn led him over to where she had been arranging flowers. “Unfortunately Tronov has been gone sometime, but I know the items you were sent to peruse.” Klorn reached under the counter, not even hiding the long barrelled disruptor that she had to move to pull forth a carved rose wood box. “This would be what he sent you for.”
Settling the box on the counter, Klorn opened the lid and revealed a set of Russian nesting dolls that were yellowed with age. Each opened into a smaller, with the smallest holding a ring that was unique to see. “Tronov said it was a belong of some one called Romanov, found in the belonging of a wizard named Rasputin. Tall tale if you ask me, but it is called the daystar rose, hand carved and old world” Klorn stated, “And originally worth a fortune, but the owner has not returned to claim it in decades we have had it, after Tronov restored and cleaned it. With Tronov gone, it is a memory I would just as soon find a home other than mine.”
Klorn
