“Liar,” she said casually before smirking. A sigh followed. “It’s… something alright. I mean, sure, it looks soft and inviting. But it says only surface things about me, if that. You’re the one with the doctorate in psychology, am I expecting too much of this place?” And it was a sincere question too. Cori was having a hard time evaluating much of anything lately with any amount of clarity.

He looked around and then at her and said “Cori… your choice of interior design says ‘Early Twentieth Century Earth Department Store Window Display’… not ‘This is me and my comfortable area’. Now, I know you don’t as of right now actually physically exist in the space… but that doesn’t prevent you from making it your own.” and he opened the bottle and poured two glasses and slid one to her. He then stood up and looked around and realized quickly what was missing.

While she couldn’t exactly drink it was their thing that she got to hold a glass too. At least she felt included, adn with Royal she understood his intentions. That was more than she could say for a lot of other people.

Turning to her, he said “We spent how long tracking down your stuff? Your things? Where are they?” he asked as he spun around and his eyes settled on the bedroom door. “Let me guess. In there, still in boxes and crates?”

She couldn’t have looked more guilty if she tried. Lowering her head slightly, she chewed on the inside of her cheek. “Okay, slight confession, and yes I realize I’m being petulant about it. But… it won’t feel like my space until I get my slippers back, Royal. Even if I never show them to anyone, I still know they are with me and I have so few things from my life on Ajilon.”

Getting up and moving over to the couch, drink in hand, Cori sat on one side. “Have I ever told you why i joined Starfleet?”

~Corinne Dalton

Royal shook his head and said “Huh-uh. I’m not going to let you deflect this. I know the slippers are important, but they are not your entirety of being. You want to tell me? I want to hear. But only if you tell while we unpack and put some things where they go. Otherwise, we can go get some dinner. But if you want to talk, love… you talk while we unpack some memories.”

Dalton gave him a glare. “You suck,” she said before her expression slipped into a smirk.

“Said like every woman I have ever dated.” he replied dryly and then slapped his thighs and stood up.

“Fine… we unpack a crate,” she said as she got up from the couch. Cori slipped into the bedroom and grabbed one of two crates sitting against a wall. When she returned, she set it down on the wooden coffee table and rested her hands on either side it. “I have actually gone through all of it, so I do know what’s here. Not sure how much of it should actually go on display, but we’ll see.”

“As much as possible. Visual reminders of who you were and who you are are important.”

Lifting the lid, she looked at Royal. “After the Klingons attacked the colony and my parents died, I still kept dancing. Except it felt hollow. In the span of days I had gone from looking at the different sort of performing arts schools I could go to elsewhere in the Federation to not caring about any of it. I had grief counselling, of course, and my parents’ friend did their best, but in the months afterwards I couldn’t find any joy in it. I couldn’t dance.” Pulling out a heavily tissue wrapped object, Cori unravelled it to find a glass vase in swirls of green, violet and blue. She held it up to show him. “That there is a handblown vase from a market we visited in Rixx when the Kiratu visited. I had only graduated two month prior and the kKratu was my first posting before the Saracen.”

Royal nodded in appreciation and said “Then that should go… there.” and he pointed to an empty shelf high up in the empty bookcase. “Set it just a bit off center to the right. It should catch the light really well.”
