Far too aware of everything, Dalton could see the edge of agitation in the doctor and how it was ever so slightly distracting her. So when she replied, she didn’t speak aloud, she just used her hands and signed back. Some days being the computer database and being able to know any language within it was useful. You’re hardly the first and I very much doubt you’ll be the last. There were many others she would have doubted the sincerity of, but there was something about Hannah that made her believe the woman’s words.

Hannah was, to say the least, shocked and pleasantly surprised. You sign?! Hannah stepped further into the room so the door actually shut behind her. It may not be the first time or the last, but it doesn’t stop it from hurting, does it? Hannah knew from experience. I didn’t know anyone other than Daniel knew sign on this ship. Well the counselor knows a little, but Hannah shrugged at that, it wasn’t the same as someone who actually knew. Thank you. Even when people did know some it wasn’t their first reaction to actually sign. They usually spoke to loud or overly slow or simply ignored her figuring it was too much effort to include her in a conversation.

I didn’t use to. But when the entire Federation database forms a large chunk of your memory, you tend to just know things, Cori replied.

Again taking things head on, and hoping she wouldn’t offend Cori, that wasn’t what she wanted to do. “I was hoping you could help me with something. My implants, they pick up all kinds of frequencies, I always have to adjust it on a new ship. I noticed in sickbay when you arrived I was getting more feed back. I thought it might be your mobile emitter? The frequency it operates on. I’ve…well I’ve never been around anyone like you, and that’s not a bad thing.” Hannah rushed to say, “But if my implants pick it up it might interfere with your emitter, and I’d like to fix that. I wouldn’t want that to be a reason we can’t work together.”

Taking the cue that being verbal was okay as well, Dalton nodded slowly. “While being on the holodeck puts you around more emitters, mine has to be stronger in order to create not just the visual of me but allow me to physically interact with matter outside of holographic systems.” It was a simple explanation for what it allowed, but it was what she figure most people would understand.

She gestured for Hannah to come on in. “I can’t say I have much in the way of hospitality to offer, but there’s still a replicator here. Figured it was worth keeping if I ever wanted food eating guests to ever enter.” Was she guarded? Yes. Was she nervous? Yes. She exactly one friend on this ship she could count on (Royal). She still wanted desperately to count Jarred as her second but that all still felt too awkward and fragile to hold on to.
