The Rovarran had just left dock at Romulus and left for a dry run to check systems and get the crew acclimated with their new ship. Purola had ordered the Senior staff to man their stations and prepare a combat training simulation, a recent simulation based on raids against the Klingon Defense Force.

Purola sat in her chair, hands clasped in front of her and legs crossed, a casual way to sit in preparation for battle. “Stations sound off” She ordered in a crisp voice, this was the first time her crew would see her in action, as it was, and it would be perfect.

“Engineering systems are all green, Commander. Warp drive is standing by and ready for engagement. All compartments secured and life support functioning within normal parameters,” Saeihr announced in a calm steady voice.

Drunis spoke up first and said “Weapons on standby and all compartments secured, Commander. Cloaking is available at your command.”

Narva sat to the Commander’s left. “Science ready and waiting. Also ready to offer advice when needed.”

Purola nodded, a satisfied smile on her face. “Engage Cloaking system. Passive scans of the nearby area” The simulation started as soon as she spoke. The information for the exercise would be available once the crew checked.

Narva put in the command for scans of the area. He waited for the scan to return some data.

There was a slight hum through the ship and then Drunis said “Cloaking system active, Commander. Chief of Warbird Control, place warp drive on standby.”

Saeihr’s mind calculated potential scenarios, anticipating the stresses the ship might face. Her head down focused on the console, she tapped commands into its controls, ready to implement the necessary adjustments required to keep the Rovarran at peak performance.

The Rovarran’s main sensors picked up a group of ships a few light months from their current location. A more detailed look revealed a Klingon troop transport being escorted by two or more Klingon birds of Prey, the numbers were uncertain due to their constant cloaking and decloaking. The transport was headed to one of the Klingon Colonies near Romulan space making it a prime target for assault.

Narva watched the sensor data. He picked up the Klingon transport and at least two other ships. “We got a Klingon transport moving near our own space. It’s being escorted but I can tell how many ships are there. I only saw two definitive signals flickering in and out.” This was one of the things Narva hated about cloaking devices. They were great when used by your side. But, was a pain when used by your foe.

Klingon activity near Romulan space was never a good sign, especially with a troop transport involved.

“Commander, we should prepare a message for the nearest Romulan outpost,” Saeihr suggested. “Inform them of the Klingon presence and advise them to prepare for possible attack. “Also systems are ready to divert power to the shields and weapons systems,” Saeihr called out, “Lieutenant Commander Drunis can take it from there,” she said as she looked at the weapons officer with a nod.

Three years ago, Drunis would have jumped at the chance to attack the Klingons. Now he was much more… surgical… in his application of force and violence. “Commander, I respectfully submit that attacking the convoy at this time would be a tactical error. Better that we shadow them, obtain clear scans of all ships involved and troop numbers, and where they deploy. If they stay on course to the Klingon Colony, we may be able to catch the brutes staging for an attack. That would be a much more advantageous time to strike. If they are en route to Romulan territory, we can send word to the main fleet and set up an ambush.”
