The Ulan’s jerking movements did not make Purola’s task easy, she would be just beginning to insert the tube in the cut when a heavy seizure wracked through the Ulan’s body and his eyes bulged in clear agony and terror before suddenly his body contorted and laid still. Green blood seeped as the body relaxed from the corner’s of his eye sockets, nostrils and ears, as well as from the cut Purola had just made, but those soon stopped fully as a more dire thing began to form. Small moss like ‘foam’ formed out of the blood areas matching the silver-green colorings of the plant that had attacked on the surface. It seems the plant infested its prey and would use it to ‘seed’ places elsewhere.

Scans showed this moss infestation was infesting much of the Ulan’s lungs, and larger arteries and other organs. Already there was signs of it hasting the decomposition of the now dead Ulan. At a rough guess the remains would likely be devoured fully in probably 6-8 hours. If Purola scanned the landing party she would find the all had inert such samples of the plant in their own bodies, likely this was the first step to an attack by the plant normally as long as the chemical poisons from the plant that attacked them did not get interacted in them they should avoid a fate like the Ulan just now. But they also had the fact that the side effect of this was causing an increasing allergic reaction of itchiness and tingles across their bodies.

Just then the door to the transporter room opened, and two NU’s (NE ulans’ :P ) nurses came in in bio-hazard garb. The forcefield around the transporter pad was still present preventing them from leaving as per doctrine in such cases. “..We got an alert of a biohazard from your beam up. What information do you have ma’am?” The one said to Purola. As they began their own scans on the team on the pad deck.

Narva was hesitant to say anything. If the Ulan officer had died; what was coming for them. The whole team was down there. They were all infected at some degree. If this was the end; not that it was; he would face it like a Romulan. He would stand up to it; tell it to go away. If that didn’t work; face it with honor and dignity.

Purola clicked her tongue in annoyance as the soldier died, at the hand of a damn plant. She quickly began cleaning her hands with standard sterilization techniques “We’ve been infected with some sort of invasive flora, the soldier had the worst of it” She said and started working her own scanner to confirm her thoughts “The away team should be fine as long as the chemical agent we inhaled on the surface doesn’t get activated” She put the scanner down and grabbed some empty vials and placed one into her hypospray “I’m going to take blood samples for the lab to work with, Subcommander Narva please have a look at my readings” She pushed the scanner towards the First officer as she removed a vials worth of her own green blood, removing it then putting in a new vial and moving on to Rul.

Rul pulled up a sleeve and let the Medical Officer draw a sample. His eyes stayed on the dead Ulan. “What a waste.” he said softly.

With everyone having blood samples, they were easily passed through the sterile field near the pad limits to the waiting NU’s. Scans as Narva looked at them confirmed the were infected by the spores of the plant life below which was reacting with their copper based blood and organic make up producing a quite virulent allergic reaction. It was quite uncomfortable causing extreme distracting itchiness and pin pricks across their bodies and light rashing in places. But beyond some sniffling and occasional sneezing and watery eyes they werent going to die it seems. The catalyst for a reaction like the now dead Ulan had was the trigger toxins from the attacking plant. Which as stated was slowly eating him from the inside out over what would be the next few hours, which would in time generate more spores and likely birth a new attacking plant. All in all within 2-3 days give or take.
