As chief of Weapons Control, Karek inspected the middle and inner port/starboard sections of decks 4 and 5, where the brig, armory, and main weapons control were found. It had pleased Karek that all of these areas were combined. He met the crewmen responsible for keeping guard, security, as well as the ones in charge of the weapons – both handheld weapons and the ship’s owns weapons. It was magificident. The built-in consoles were shiningly new and looked easy to use – easier than on his last ship. There had been an upgrade, or perhaps, it was only the newness of it all that made it look easier.
He was hoping someone from command staff would take up his invitation of inaugurating his department’s holographic shooting range. He had made such a statement in their informal meeting prior to boarding the ship, but it was hard to tell how they had responded to it…
– Subcenturion Karek (CWC)
The first of the Command staff to arrive oddly enough was the Medical Control Officer. She was perhaps slightly above average height for women but not tall by any standard. She looked thin, at least by soldier standards. She was also one of if not the oldest crewmember and by almost half a century, in her middle years by Romulan Standards. She held her hands clasped behind her back and held an almost smile. Her dark hair was slightly longer than was the fashion today which gave her a more motherly look than people might be used to from a member of the Imperial navy “Subcentorion Karek” she inclined her head “I understand you have something of a treat for us today?” Her tone held the same almost smiling quality, nearly pleasant but not quite there as her not-smile did.

Karek smiled in return. He looked at her seasoned face – she wasn’t old, but it was evident there was experience in every part of her skin. He looked forward to getting to know her more.
“As long as your definition of a treat is injury-free,” Karek said. “What I have is a holographic shooting range. This way.”
Purola inclined her head then followed Karek, a slight smile formed at his answer.
Karek led the way until they reached their destination. Before the two of them was a large hall. “Doctor, why don’t you choose what enemy we fight?”
– Subcenturion Karek
The doctor pursed her lips in consideration “How about some Klingons, they’ve always made for good entertainment” She said in the same almost amused tone as before “Any specific parameters you’ve set up?”
Centurion Purola
“Hah!” Karek exclaimed. “Perfect. I really like how pink the blood looks at times, it’s almost cute.”
Karek played with the interface a bit, and the hallway turned into a corridor inside a Klingon bird-of-prey.
“Doctor – this corridor leads to the bridge of a Klingon bird-of-prey. Our mission is to move the next fifty metres to the bridge,” Karek said.
They could both see a narrow corridor with furniture used as barricades. Several small impromptu barricades could be found along the way to the bridge.
“I suppose the Klingons might hide behind those barricades. I don’t know how many they might be. Here, I have a disruptor pistol and a disruptor rifle. Which one do you want?”
– Subcenturion Karek
Purola took the information in stride, she didn’t seem phased by the scenario or the location “I prefer the pistol, easier to perform field medicine when you can simply holster your weapon.”
Centurion Purola
“Good choice,” Karek responded and handed Purola the pistol. The rifle stayed in his own hand. “In a few moments, the game will start. Are you ready?”
Purola did a quick examination of the weapon, checking the power pack followed by switching the settings around then hefting the weapon once in each hand before deciding on using her right “Ready.
There was an audible countdown. Karek loaded the rifle and positioned it in his arm so that he would be ready to shoot the pesky Klingons. Today would be a good day for them to die, he snickered (even if they were holographic ones)..
The Doctor raised an eyebrow at the Subcenturion’s laughter, it was an interesting reaction to the training excersise.
Once the countdown finished, a Klingon alarm siren sounded. There was a poignant smell of Klingons in the air. Karek led the way down the corridor.
A Klingon peaked his head up from behind a barricade. Karek shot.
It was a miss. Karek swore loudly in exasperation.
– Subcenturion Karek
Purola frowned at the young officer “Keep your temper in check Subcenturion” she said as she ducked behind cover, avoiding the red bolts firing from the Klingon assault “I’ll surpress whilst you line up a shot” She said before leaning out from her half cover and letting loose a flurry of shots.
