Tahee came striding in without any ramble. Before anyone could really say or do anything she simply said, “..Sit, I have no time to stand on ceremony today..” Whether they had begun to rise to her presence or not. Once everyone had done so or continued to do so she inserted a data chip into the table’s slot. A holo image of a two planetary system came up. “..This is imperial survey system 29 for this sector. ISS-29 has two planets, the first upon long range scans holds many minerals the Empire will claim for future mining operations. The second planet, is inhabitable to life, and does seem to have a highly primitive humanoid population. The Rovarran is to proceed here for arrival in the next four days, survey by scan the 1st planet to confirm the deposits and tag by probe future environmental bubble mines, then land and survey the 2nd planet. Make efforts for now not to reveal yourselves to the natives. Collect samples of the plant and animal life, once done transmit your findings back to this outpost for further orders. Ask any questions now..” She said.

“Do we have any other information on the native population?” Rh’vaurek asked of the second planet. “You said they are primitive, but if that’s the case, what would happen if they were to realize we were there?” He was concerned about possible sneak attacks from the natives, but also the risk of revealing themselves to the population if they had to defend themselves. He considered options for less advanced weapons if they would be required.

Commander Rh’vaurek Deletham

”..Survey probes showed they are barely out of a cave dwelling society, no real forms of society or culture worth speaking of. They seen to have a keen sense of smell, and affinity for hunting and trapping. Anything further you may if you wish and time permits make non-invasive observations of them. But take all efforts to not reveal yourselves to them yet..” she said.

”..As for what would happen if they do see you? Given they barely cover 10% of the planet in the northern hemisphere in a mountain range probably assume you are just some other people of the planet and try to hunt, or conquer you or something. If…and only if this happens you may defend yourselves as needed and do so as you see fit..” She stressed this last part.

Karek had listened carefully. He was a quiet man, though active, and in this new role of his, he needed to ensure the safety of the ship – and, by extension, the safety of the Empire.

“To our knowledge, are there any other warp-capable powers that claim the area, or consider it to be within their sphere of influence?” He asked.

It was important to know. Might the Federation have designs on the area? The Ferengi? The Breen? The Klingons? It was all important to assess.

”..The system is well within our claimed borders and area of influence, no other warp capable powers are remotely in the area for many sectors..” She said.

While this was good news for the mission, Karek could not help feel sick to his stomach by the reply. He had made himself appear stupid and unknowledgeable about stellar geography. He should have known that ISS 29 was within the Romulan empire. How could he not know that? To make matters worse, Tahee’s reply sounded, to Karek, as infantilising and making Karek appear even dumber. His blood started boiling, but he composed himself. By not making herself clear in her initial brief, Tahee had forced Karek to shame himself, and lose face. He would resent her for that, but for now, he had to appear to respect her.

He nodded to acknowledge the reply, fearing that speaking now would reveal his emotions in his voice. After all, he was the most junior of the gang.

Purola listened to the younger officers ask their questions. There was a lot one could learn from the questions others asked. Rul asked a good question that at first thought didn’t seem odd but she got the feeling that there was a more tactical mindset behind the question, Karek on the other hand was more obvious, boyish features and simple thought process. She smiled a half smile at the two officers, this crew might just be more interesting than she’d originally thought.

Narva rather liked the first mission for the ship. He was a scientist first; so this was right up his alley. But, he hated having to hide out to check on natives.
