As the new members of the crew finished with their medical exams it was Serok’s turn. He approached the Chief Medical Officer. “Ensign Serok. Reporting for medical examination.” He said mater of factly.

“Come in.” Came an aristocratic English voice.

Doolittle saw he had a new medical Dr. He was happy for that as his own skills in that area did not match his psychological skills as well.

The Vulcan entered. Before speaking he looked slowly around at the sick bay. He remembered the sick bay of the Merrimack. The advances were remarkable. “Greetings Doctor. I am Ensign Serok reporting for a medical examination.” The Doctor would notice the Vulcan had no discernible abnormalities. Other then his age for an Ensign.

“Ensign?” Doolittle said with a grin. “Seems even for a Vulcan you started a little late in the game. Come over to this biobed.”

Doolittle walked to a biobed nearby and pointed with his hand out for Serok to sit. As he did Doolittle had a small tricorder that scanned the patient and transferred the data tot he screen at the head of the bed.

As Serok got positioned on the biobed he raised a brow. “The game, as you called it, is not my first attempt, Doctor. I once held the rank of Lieutenant.” He paused for a moment. “However, that was long ago.”

The Doctor would notice all of Serok’s vitals were normal for his age. Unless his expertise noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Doolittle saw that all looked fine but he also had a Vulcan in front of him and he had very little experience with psychoanalysis of a Vulcan outside his days in the University and SF Academy in his former role as a psychiatrist.

“How are you feeling Serok. We can dispense with designations of rank in case the reduction from your previous position is an uncomfortable discussion.” Doolittle said.

He was intentionally using a psychoanalysis technique on Serok and he was curious as to the reaction.

It had been some time since Serok had been around other species and their discussions of emotions. It would be something he would have to used to again. “If you are referring to my physical well being. I am not experiencing any discomfort.” He answered. “As for my current rank it is simply the result of my extended absence from Starfleet. Although I was granted exemption from attending Starfleet academy a second time, I accept the rank of Ensign as a logical course of action.” He felt like that was a sufficient answer.

A typical and expected reaction Doolittle noted.

“Tell me about your absence. Was it medical related in any way?” He asked trying to disguise his real intent to question the mental state of Serok. Which if course was the CNS role and not his at the moment but as he noted. He had a chance to question and analyze a Vulcan.
