Michael paced the floor of main engineering. “Nothing?” He asked an NE at a monitor nearby. “Not yet sir. Wait. Something weird from the shuttle and fighter telemetry.” Michael leaned in over the engineer’s shoulder. “Microwave emissions. And minor structural… I don’t know what. Kinda like they just ran smack into a wall and that’s the aftershock. They’re pulling out.” He stepped back. “Good for their safety. Bad for problem solving.” He paused in thought. “That could’ve just been a structural response to ‘riding’ microwaves.”

OOC: Setting this up in case anything happens here on the Olinski. Also assuming he’d be watching the shuttle telemetry so that, if it turned out the Dragoon was just damaged, he’d know what his next job would be.

Time passed and the fighters made their maneuvers. Then Sehlat slipped. As all the other craft started to make their pursuit, Michael had only one thing to say. “What the hell are they doing?” He stepped back from the console. “Lennon,” he pointed to the next monitor over “monitor Lt. Primage specifically.” Michael took a seat at a console of his own. He checked the Olinski. Oh god. He saw the modified torpedo loaded and ready. He ran calculations to see if there was some modification he could make so that the Olinski could beam Sehlat out. They still might fire this torpedo, but one of their own wouldn’t be so deep in.

“Aye-aye Lieutenant,” Ensign Paul Lennon replied with the slightest hint of a Cambridge accent. The plucky young ensign found all of this incredibly exciting, like so many new officers do. “So what do you think is happening?” he asked the older and more experienced officer.

“There are two options, Ensign.” Michael replied. “First, but less likely, she found something and is on a solo flight path. Don’t risk anyone else being the idea. Second, and far more likely, the same thing happened to her fighter as happened to the Dragoon. In which case Ensign,” his eyes glazed over “it is very likely that she will die. The Dragoon was large enough to achieve orbit when it shut down. It was also probably capable of getting closer before complete shutdown. A fighter, on the other hand, will be completely out of control by now. She’s in uncontrolled descent. Essentially a meteor. But with a person inside. We need to find a way to beam her out…”

“Like what?” Paul asked.

“A probe. A probe modded to search specifically for her…”

“I see,” the young ensign nodded, “so we use the probe to get a lock on her…”

“And we use the signal emitter as a booster for the transporter signal. Maybe even let it ride off the shuttle. The probe just has to stay alive long enough to beam her out. One of those long-range science probes. It might get a lock before it hits the microwaves.” =/\=Gould to bridge. I’ve been watching the fighters and I think I have a way to get Lt Primage out.=/\=

Michael had just watched the microwaves dissipate when the XO spoke. He looked up from the screen and explained the plan. =/\=I think we can use a probe as a signal repeater to boost the transporters. Give the probe instructions to lock onto her biosign, and retransmit the exact coordinates to a transporter control station. The probe then boosts the ship’s transport signal so that we can lock on to her. We can beam her out of the fighter, get her to medical, whatever we need to do, then reclaim the fighter separately. Option B: lock onto the whole fighter and beam it into a cargo bay. Same system, larger scale.=/\=
