The EMH looked at the data and then tapped a few parts of his console and then said, “There is no virus infection. Therefore, unless this is a new phenomenon, the symptoms are very alike to the situation at Gara Colony, right down to the pattern in the unusual electropathic residue readings.”
Just at that time Redding was transported to sickbay.
OOC: Joining thread from https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/olinski/notes/74428/
IC: The EMH looked at Redding’s readings and said, “This man is also struck by the same malaise.”
GM
The patients were piling up.
“Give them all neural inhibitors.” Doolittle ordered his staff.
This would help with the anxiety they seemed to be in. However it had not woken them up yet.
“EMH give me a synopsis of the Gara Colony medical incident that mirrors this one. What was the outcome?” He asked.
Doolittle
“Four people from various parts of the colony,” began the EMH, “were found unconscious one the same morning. The doctors on the colony were not able to understand what was happening. There was an unusual level of electropathic residue that could not be explained. However, their brainwaves showed that they were agitated. Love signs showed stress but their bodies were totally paralysed. Three of them died seven hours later. A nurse on hand was able to communicate with the last patient and calmed her down. It was then that they realised that although unable to respond, they were able to perceive what was told them. The patient was able to open her eyes and blink to questions. However, she also died four days later. The body’s nervous system began to breakdown causing body wide organ failure.” The EMH then turned and looked at the console again and said, “Doctor Doolittle, if we don’t do anything to help them, these crewmembers would die in five days.”
GM
Doolittle was not a brain surgeon or even a surgeon of any kind but he did know the human psyche. He needed more info but he had an idea.
“EMH what do you mean “electropathic residue? Give me an explanation.” Doolittle asked. He was unsure if the EMH was talking figuratively or of a substance.
Doolitle
Trevor paused for a moment after listening to the computer’s report. “All of those years practicing medicine.... and I’m finally out of my depth.” The Counselor said with a hint of defeat.
“But wait!” Lieutenant Michaels exclaimed. “What did the last person communicate to the nurse?” He asked, hoping to find some answers to how they were ‘attacked’.
CNS
OOC: I am sorry for not posting, I had some problems with my internet connection. Hopefully it holds out. I am also changing the location to Sickbay as the patients were beamed into sickbay in the early part of this thread.
IC: In answer to Doolittle, the EMH replied, “Elevated levels of electropathic residue together with depressed histamine levels ( see https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Electropathic_residue) is a symptom of Iresine syndrome, a neurological disorder. However, the histamine levels are not only not depressed but slightly elevated as well. I have compared it to the situation of Ullian telepathic memory invasion, but found the situation different. I have also scanned the patients for the presence of at least 22 non-medical substances that can cause the elevated levels, but did not find them. Thus, I concluded that the condition of the crew is not a sudden development of Iresine syndrome or from any of the known causes but something else.”
The EMH turned to the nurses present and asked, “Did the patients say anything to you?”
GM
OOC: I was referring to the nurse in the scenario you gave us about a patient being able to blink to communicate :)
-Ray
OOC: thanks!
IC:
“EMH how about injecting them with Inaprovaline?” This may help reduce the symptoms and bring them to a conscious state?” Doolittle said not fully knowing if it would work or not.
Doolittle
A nurse said, “Doctor, they are not exactly unconscious. They cannot respond but I believe they can hear us. One of them,” she pointed to the patient in the third biobed, “that one, blinked in response when I asked him if he could hear me.” The EMH said, “Inaprovaline is used to stimulate someone out of the unconsciousness. If they are not really unconscious I would not recommend it. Perhaps we can use their ability to blink communicate with the patients.”
GM
“My goodness woman we are in the 24th century with the most advanced medical systems in the galaxy and you want to get answers from blinking?” Doolittle said letting out his frustration at being the CMO of a ship like the Olinski and having to rely on visual cues.
“Ok.” He said and walked to the indicated patient.
“Crewman can you hear and understand me?” He asked.
Doolittle
The man blinked once. However before the doctor could ask another question, the EMH asked, “Is there a Betazoid on the ship, we might be able to get answers if the man is conscious. Whilst he might not be able to respond physically, he might be able to respond telepathically?”
GM
=^=Computer identify any betazoid crew member on board, select the highest ranking and send them to Sickbay.=^= Doolittle called out.
As a psychiatrist he was not fond of empaths but there was a place for the skill.

OOC: A Vulcan would also do in a pinch.
R Smith AKA Jason Harn
OOC: How ironic that the closest we have to a Vulcan is a Romulan lol On a quick LOA but will add on 5/2
-RayOOC: I could play an NPC Vulcan nurse. It would give me an excuse to post more so I could maintain my “post every three days” obligation.
OOC: If you feel comfortable to do it then go for it.
IC:Doolittle waited for a response but it seemed the ship was Betazoid intolerant.
Doolittle
Nurse T’fanni, a short slender woman with raven black hair approached Doolittle holding a PADD in her long spidery fingers. “Petty Officer Carras is one quarter Betazoid,” she announced softly. It was only then that the others noticed her pointed ears.
Nurse T’fanni of Vulcan
“And just a little more Vulcan I believe.” Was the reply by Doolittle. “We are in a pinch. Nurse T’fanni can you try and reach this crewman on a telepathic level?”
“I could, but then I would expose myself to the contagion,” the greenblooded nurse replied heartlessly. “Even telepathic contact is still contact. And as a touch telepath I would have to touch the patient physically as well as mentally.”
Nurse T’fanni, not quite as heroic as Mr. Spock and may take some convincing
Doolittle“Nurse you took an oath, like everyone in the medical field and in this room took. It was not a “when it pleases me” oath nor a one of convenience and not even self preservation. Like many professions, SF not the least amongst them, we are sometimes required to do those things which on the face of them seem counter to our own safety but never the less necessary. It is illogical to sign up for this duty and not realize and even accept it. Not to mention if we do not find the solution to this problem it can very well endanger the whole ship and as a result you as well.” Doolittle said using his psychiatry skills to good use. If it worked or not is another thing.
Doolittle
T’fanni surrendered gracefully, but it was not clear if her decision stemmed from Doolittle’s logical argument or her desire to end his emotional appeal. “Very well, I suppose that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few,” she murmured as she massaged her hands. “This shall require deep concentration,” she added as she bowed her head and closed her eyes. She then opened her eyes, straightened her posture and approached the patient. As she leaned over the stricken crewman she placed her hand over his face and spread her long spidery fingers but just before she actually touched his face…
Redding, who was on biobed 4, sat up quietly and stood up.
GM
Distracted, Nurse T’fanni stood up straight as her left eyebrow rose a quarter of a centimeter.
OOC: Is Redding the patient who T’fanni was going to mind touch with or is Redding a different patient?
Nurse T’fanni, who probably should have posted earlier
OOC: Different patient.
IC:“Never seen you get that passionate before, Doolittle.” Trevor laughed. The Counselor’s back was towards Redding so he didn’t realize the man was standing at the moment. “How long should it take to do a mind meld?” Trevor asked, as he never witnessed one done before.
CNS
“Michaels!” Doolittle called out.
“Crewman are you alright?” He asked Redding, not remembering his name.
Doolittle MD
At that moment a call came in from the fighter bay. . .
=^=Ricochet to Sickbay. Dr. Doolittle, have you run a physical on the Sierra passenger and her child that came aboard?=^=
Doolittle was busy to say the least but was able to blurt out.
=^=We did a complete medical check. No abnormalities detected to include brain activity.=^=
OOC: As a note they did check into that with a complete scan if I remember correct. tricorder on the planet and then biobed on the Olinski. Should have picked up abnormal brain activity.
=^= Did you do any kind of psionic scans on either of them? Was there any kind psionic ability noted? They could be affecting the crew and not even realize it.=^=
Ricochet (CAG)

As the conversation was going on, Redding moved towards the exit.
GM
“Not so fast Redding…” The Counselor stated as he watched the man walking towards the exit. Trevor quickly walked over to Redding and placed a hand on the man’s shoulder to try and guide him back to the biobed. “We definitely need to run more tests on you before you leave.”
CNS
The only response from Redding was that he stopped moving. As the counselor moved to turn the man around, the counselor was confronted with an expressionless face except for the eyes. The eyes showed terror.
GM
Nurse T’fanni approached Redding and Michaels, ready to assist. “Come this way Mister Redding,” she said softly. When she noticed the naked fear in Redding’s eyes her left eyebrow rose a third of a centimeter.
Nurse T’fanni, placing herself close to the action in case the GM needs to take out an NPC to illustrate a danger to the PCs
Nurse T’fanni, ready
“Nurse..T’fanni. Now is the time to mind meld with this man.” Doolittle said/ordered.
Doolittle knew this might be the time to get answers. He also had the suspicion the man was being controlled. However no scans had indicated parasitic infestation or other clear evidence it something like that. This left a psionic or telepathic root.
Doolitlte
“Aye-aye Doctor,” Nurse T’fanni nodded before speaking to Redding softly. “Everything will be all right, you won’t be alone anymore.” She extended her right hand up to his face and spread her long spidery fingers. “You aren’t alone… My mind to your mind… My thoughts… to your thoughts…”
OOC: If an NPC is due to get their butt kicked, this is probably the time
