Doolittle waited for his guide to take him to the Sick Bay.

Doolittle

He was brought to a sickbay that was about half the size of that found in the Olinski. There were two crew members there and about three civilians.

“Yes,” the more senior medic asked, “is there I can do for you?”

GM

‘Dr. Doolittle from the USS Olinski. We are here to render assistance if needed.” Doolittle said with as much officialness he had.

He looked over at the COS. Again here was a ship that had made an emergency landing on a planet, not an every day kind of thing to happen, and they seemed almost too at ease. Doolittle’s training something was not right here even if everything seemed just fine.

Doolittle MD

“Welcome on board Doctor,” the medic in blue answered, “I am Dr. Moore, Joseph Moore. We did not have a bad landing and so there were no injuries then. However, when the storm struck, the psychological impact was more significant. Mrs. Kingston in bed 4 had to be sedated because it was her first trip out of her colony and she had never experienced a storm like we had. Weather control and all that …” Moore said sympathetically.

“If you would like to help out Mrs Pitch and her son. She is extremely worried about the psychological impact the storm had on her son. He is only six months old,” Moore pointed out a rather young woman sitting with an infant in her arms.

GM

“Of course Dr.” Doolittle said and moved toward the mom and small child.

Doolittle knew that there was no psychological impact on a 6 month old baby. One they could not form permanent memories. Another is that even if they could in this stage of development they were concentrated on food and very basic things. Even if the event had scared the child it would not be remembered and they would return to their normal primary needs state with no issues. Maybe the Dr was offering him a hint the mother had been the one traumatized.

“Mrs Pitch I am Dr. Doolittle of the USS Brian Olinski. As you might have heard we are here to assist you. Is there anything I can do at the moment for you personally?” He asked in a low, neutral but caring voice.

Doolittle

“I am all right,” claimed Mrs. Pitch. “It’s my son, Jack. He’s been silence all this time. Everyone has been frightened but he had not cried or anything. He must be scared stiff, don’t you think?” Doolittle would be able to see the infant sleeping soundly in his mother’s arms.

GM

The Andorian had kept himself in the background until now. He wanted to question the remaining patient, but he knew how protective doctors were. With no one else to question, he decided to cut to the chase.

“There must be something we can offer the passengers. Dr. Moore, perhaps your passengers could use a little more leg room. We have made some accommodations aboard the Olinski if they would like a change a scenery until the ship is up and running again?”

He glanced over at Mrs. Pitch, “At least they wouldn’t have to worry about anymore storms.”

COS Ch’zaolrih

Mrs Pitch looked hopefully at the doctor.

GM

“Have the medical staff looked into any medical reason for his not crying? Also I assume this is a change? He usually cries?” Doolittle asked.

Maybe he was not using the usual Dr/Patient question method but it would end up getting the same results.

Doolittle

That question left the mother looking rather flustered. “He doesn’t usually cry,” she tried to explain, “but when there is such a terrible occurrence like a storm, shouldn’t a baby be frightened enough to cry? He did not!”

GM

OOC: Just bumping for my request to the ship’s doctor. COS - Ch’zaolrirh

OOC: Sorry for missing it …

IC: Dr. Moore was observing the exchange between Doolittle and Mrs Pitch. Then, he realised the COS was speaking to him. “What was it?” he asked but almost immediately continued, “O yes. If the passengers wanted to move, I won’t stop them. We will need to make the proper transfer logs and they could get to your bigger ship if they wanted to. Mrs. Pitch looks like she would want to. We have more passengers in their quarters. Would you like to go around to ask them?”

Doolittle decided it was best to eliminate the medical side first. So he took out his tricorder.

“May I?”He asked as he extended the device to check on the infant. He also set another setting to check on the mother at the same time.

He awaited the results to appear.

Doolittle

The infant was actually quite well according to the tricorder. The mother, Mrs. Pitch, on the other hand, was stressed and anxious. Her stress hormones were at an elevated level.

GM

“Mrs Pitch we can transfer to the Olinski. Have the baby monitored and give you a break as well.”Doolittle said. He wanted to get Mrs Pitch in another environment and calmed down. Once she saw the baby in a safe environment she might calm down and if not he could always sedate her.

Ch’zaolrirh nodded. Looking over at Doolittle, he saw the doctor knee deep in his profession. Stepping out of earshot of those in sickbay, he ran the decision by Kolar:

=^= Mr. Kolar, some of the passengers are a little jittery. I’m recommending that we allow them to beam aboard the Olinski until repairs are done. There is a hanger bay cleared and ready for them if they’d like to stretch their legs. Also, I believe their are a few former Captains aboard. I’m sure they wouldn’t turn down a tour of the flagship. =^=

Ch’zaolrirh awaited an answer. He hoped the CSO would agree. Afterall, if something strange was happening, the passengers might feel less restrained in speaking about once they were off the transport.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

Doolittle MD

=^=Do we need security protocols for these passengers? Being on a transport isn’t the same level of clearance as being on the Flagship of the Fleet..=^=

Kolar

The COS responded =^= They would be restricted to the designated hanger bay unless escorted. We can beam down a couple of officers to quickly verify each batch of passengers before transport. I’m estimating it will take about two hours to process them, assuming all of their records are in order. =^=

COS Ch’zaolrirh

Doolittle waited for the reaction and answer from Mrs. Pitch. This for him was important psycholgically and perhaps for the seemingly routine near crash landing of this ship.

Doolittle

“Would I have … I mean, my baby, be out of here to have the treatment he needs? When can I get out?” her voice sounding more anxious to move than elated.

GM

Ch’zaolrirh stood by. There was no response from Kolar yet.

COS Ch’zaolrirh

“My Dear. You can both go. Lt. can we beam both of them from the ship to our Sick Bay?” Doolittle said looking over to the COS.

He had the idea that maybe the woman would be more open and forthcoming about what was happening here if she was away from the planet and the ship.

Doolittl

Mrs Pitch looked relieved at the doctor’s words.

GM

=^=Assess the rationales for movement. Well come up with a protocol for who actually needs to be moved to be approved by Captain Whitney and Commander Harn. Please send the requests to me to coordinate.=^&=

Kolar

=^=Commander we are attempting to re-attain orbit, there may be some medical transfers. Will advise.=^=

Kolar

=^=Understood Balfor, are quarantine procedures necessary?=^= Jason replied.

Jason Harn, aCO

OOC: Just to make this easier Doolittle can answer as if he was on the main channel of coms.
IC:

=^= Doolittle to Bridge. So far nothing we have scanned or the limited persons we have checked indicate a quarantine is needed. The medical situation seems, well oddly normal. =^=

Doolittle

Ch’zaolrirh waited for Doolittle to finish, “Doctor, please send me the names of anyone who you believe needs a medical transfer. I will work with the XO to get them approved.”

COS Ch’zaolrirh

“Well honestly this is the only person indicated to me by the staff of this ship. I mean do I need to do a check up of everyone?” Doolittle said a little perturbed. He felt confident enough that the ship could triage the crew and have them ready.

Doolittle then turned around and looked for a staff member or medical member to inquire if there were more people who needed to be checked out.

Doolittle

The andorian’s antannae straightened slightly. He had meant to offer the doctor his assistance, but it seemed the man was on edge. He decided to leave it alone.

Dr. Moore asked, “What is the matter?” He had noticed that Doolittle was looking perturbed.

GM

” Nothing serious Dr. However I do need to confirm for the security staff if these are the only two patients we will be sending to the Olinski or are there others that need evaluations?”

While the attention was off the patient, Ch’zaolrirh quietly took down her information for the transfer, “Hello mam, I’m the security chief aboard the Olinski. Do you mind spelling out your name.”

Once he had it, he transmitted the details for the woman and her child to the security office aboard the Olisnki. He added a shorthand message, “Confirm the origin and destination for both passenger. Transferring aboard and need them cleared.”

He then tapped his badge =^= Mr. Kolar our doctor and their doctor believe that a transfer is in order for two patients in sickbay. A woman and child. The Olinski is clearing them now. I am sending their names for clearance from the freighter captain. =^=

COS Ch’zaolrirh

Doolittle MD

“I have had no other complaints, except for Mrs. Pitch,” replied Moore, obviously rather glad to have the woman off his back.

GM

“Well then.” Doolittle answered. “Security Chief we have two for transport.”

Doolittle still felt a little odd about the whole situation. As a psychologist he was not seeing what he should be seeing and as a curious officer in SF he just felt things were off. However he never based his findings on “feelings” when good psychological assessment was available.

Doolittle

Moore whispered, “Doctor, I could find nothing physically wrong with the child. The mother is also physically well. I am not sure what is the matter with them. Do you have any insights?”

GM

“I can not shed light on any medical issues but psychological issues might be the avenue to explore. Every person reacts to stress in different ways. I need to remove them both from environment they are currently feeling stressed in and into a neutral one. Then I can assess them better.” Doolittle said happy to share his expertise.

Doolittle

“Respecting patient confidentiality, could you at least let me have your recommendations should I encounter a similar situation?” Moore asked.

GM

=^=Captain when we clear the interference two individual’s are recommended and cleared for transport off^=

Kolar CSO

A few moments later, the Captain Whitney’s voice came out on the comms’ speakers, =/\=Sickbay, please escort the two individuals to the Transporter room. Transport of the individuals have been cleared.=/\=

Moore asked one of the security officers to escort Mrs. Perth and her son to the Transporter Room.

GM

Doolittle of course was going with them. He was ready to get back to the Olinski and maybe even discover what was really going on here by some good psychological investigation.

Doolittle

OOC: I changed this to the Olinski Sick Bay.

Doolittle cautiously escorted his patients to a biomed table and asked the Dr on duty to do a confirmation scan of what he had done on the planet of both of them.

Doolittle

The scans show that the infant was perfectly fine. The mother was physically okay but showed that she was stressed for some reason.

GM

“Your child is fine Mrs. Pitch. In fact you are too physically. However is there anything you want to talk about? I feel there is something still bothering you.” Doolittle said as he expertly sat next to her on the biobed. This was his area of expertise. He did not want to move her far away from her child in order to not invoke any separation fears. Also she was now away from the Sierra and in a safe environment. His soothing tone was meant to enhance that feeling.

Doolittle

Mrs. Pitch relaxed a little. “I am glad that he is fine. He’s all I’ve got in the galaxy … he’s the only meaning in my life. I am glad. Would we be able to move to more comfortable surroundings? I know it is a short trip from here, but it would be nicer if it weren’t in sickbay.” Then she looked as if she remembered something, “Oh dear,” she said, “in my haste, I had forgotten my luggage. Would it be too much trouble if I asked that it be transported here?”

GM

Doolittle did not show it but the sudden change in her behavior stunned him. Abrupt was not quite the word in her turn around.

“Yes of course. However lets get back to you. Tell me what caused your stress back on the Sierra. I mean was there something more that happened?” He prodded. He knew any real psychological trauma did not just disappear from one moment to the next.

Doolittle

She looked a little annoyed, “That captain did not say anything to us, except that we were landing and that we needed repairs. Of course we were all concerned. Then came that awful storm. We didn’t feel it, of course, but when the captain mentioned that we may have delays because of the storm, I was stunned. How could this happen? Then my Jack here started to cry. I am sure he felt the rage of the storm and he was frightened. I managed to calm him down and gave him his feed. Now he is peacefully asleep. You mention my stress. That awful captain had no regard for our feelings at all. When I mentioned about my Jack to him. he merely asked me to look for that kind doctor in sickbay. Don’t you think that kind of callous attitude is bound to give me stress?”

GM

“Yes it could be seen that way. Of course Captain also feel stress and reacted by exerting calm and control. So that can seem callous as well in a high stress situation. Did you say you did not hear or really know about a storm but that is what you were told? If there was no way to know about the storm how do you suppose that your baby felt it?” Doolittle asked curiously.

Was this a clue of some kind or a nervous person prone to exaggerations and flights of fancy or something more?

Doolittle

Mrs. Pitch stared at him. “Of course babies know these kinds of things. What are you insinuating? I believe the Sierra would be leaving the planet soon and if we do not get our luggage, I will be left without my things. Are you trying to delay me?” Mrs. Pitch sounded very annoyed.

GM

Doolittle observed the quick changes Mrs. Pitch was making. From a scared protective mother who was near hysteria to a logical thinking one in a matter of minutes. something was certainly not right here but getting to it would not be easy. Maybe there was a medical reason, something else happening he missed.

” Of course your right. That is being taken care of. Just a few more cautionay test. Your baby and you look fine but we just want to be extra careful to make sure this ordeal has not caused any unknown medical issues.” He said with a caring smile.

He then asked her to lay down on the biobed and ordered a brain scan to look for anything outside the usual. He accounted for the variable that she was slightly upset. He wanted to see if there was something outside the norms that would show up. While that was done he set his tricorder in sync with the brain scanner and did the same for the infant.

He thought to himself he might be overthinking this as well. This could be an overly protective mother in a stress situation and nothing more.

Doolittle

The infant did not show anything abnormal. It was still sleeping. The adult, Mrs. Pitch, on the other hand, seemed to be under a slight strain or stress. Neither did her brain function show any visible abnormality.
