In the cockpit, he addressed the rest of Green Squad and Mirri at the helm of the runabout. =^=Here’s the 4-1-1, kids. Sensors show an unidentified vessel out there in this system. We have reason to believe it is the USS Dragoon. We’ll be spreading out, but staying with comms range. Sehlat and Apex, you’re on point. Papa Bear and I will be at mid-point, with Venus and Swordfish at the tail staying within comms range of Lt. Lawrence in the runabout. The moment any of you are aware of communication being lost, pull back. I repeat-PULL BACK!! Nobody gets lost on this road trip. Hopefully, we’ll be within range of the ship and get get some scans to tell us what happened. Also, keep a visual out for hostiles. There are a lot of unknowns in play here. Comprendo, Green Squad?=^=

The fighters making up Green Squad as well as the runabout helmed by Toro left the hanger behind as they made their way toward the Antioch system.

=^=Remember the sitrep, squad. Keep your distance steady, velocity stable AND stay in contact. At the first sign of systems shutdown or malfunction, reverse course–ASAP. Turn and burn out of there! All copy?=^=

Ricochet (CAG)

The sensors on the fighters first detected life signs on the planet. There were quite a number of people on the planet. With the ship, although it was offline, they detected presence of a full compliment of photon torpedoes. From the sensor information, it seemed that the ship was actually functional but just powered down.

The shuttle also detected life signs. As the shuttle’s sensors were more analytical than the fighters (fighters’ sensors were optimised for tactical than analytical). They were able to detect a few more signatures and noticed that there was a strange energy signature emanating from the planet surface. It was a microwave signature.

As Sehlat and Apex took the lead, Xandra kept herself about a fighter length ahead of Apex’. If she has trouble, she didn’t want them both caught in it if she could help it.

=^=I’ve got life signs… Ship’s dead in the water but planet shows signs. Armament full on ship. Whatever happened, they didn’t deplete weapons,=^= she finished and frowned. Something didn’t sit right. What could kill a ship like that, but leave power for beam downs… Or escape pods or shuttles?

IC: Apex rolled his eyes. Squad leader taking far lead to take first hits. He’d seen it before and would see it again. He’d even done it a few times when he was younger. He kept pace behind her, but had a trajectory in mind to line up as a proper wingman.

We’re being baited. He thought. A ship at full capacity but powered down? Either a power drain or an ambush. He hoped that was years of fighting making him paranoid.

In his own fighter, Ric was concerned that whatever had the ability to shut down a Pendragon class would make short work of the fighters they were flying. He kept an eye on the sensor readouts as well as the information being passed between Mirri and the bridge. Something about the microwave emissions piqued his curiosity.

=^=Mirri, this is Ricochet. We’ll keep relaying information to you, but Green Squads going in for a closer look. I want to figure out what’s giving off that microwave radiation. Sehlat, Apex, lead us in. Let’s try to pinpoint the source of that radiation. Maybe the fighters will be small enough to avoid detection.=^=

As the fighters went closer, they became aware of a ‘hum’ that they could perceive. They did not actually hear it, rather that they felt it and it was annoying …

The crew on board the shuttle also felt the ‘hum’. It was an annoying and persistent ‘hum’.

“What the hell?” Apex whispered. =/\=Is everyone feeling this or is something wrong with my bird?=/\= God how he hoped something was wrong with his fighter.

=^=Roger that, Apex,=^= came Ricochet’s reply. He could feel the hum as well. It almost seemed like the hum of a starship. But that, you got used to the longer you spent on a ship until you barele noticed it. This was more. . . intense. Ric decided by the time you could get used to this hum, it would either shake your teeth loose, or drive you insa. Neither option sounded pleasant.

Adjusting his sensors, he attemped to find a correlation between the hum and the microwave emissions coming from the planet.

=^=Green squad, pull back to the range we first picked up the microwave signals. Let’s see if this “hum” and microwaves are uni- or omni-directional. Maybe we can approach the planet from another direction. That goes for you too, Mirri.=^=

As they moved away the hum’s effect was reduced. They found that there was a circular region of a radius of about 4000 km emanating from the planet surface and the circle expands as the microwave leaves the planet’s atmosphere. The microwave’s strength seems to dissipate the moment they are about 10,000 kilometres from the planet surface. The Dragoon is actually about 1,200 kilometres from the planet surface and within the circle of influence.

Mirri maintained her trajectory and flight path. She waited for additional orders.

Helm

Now that they had a clearer image of the radiation coming from the planet, Ric decided it was time to pinpoint what was causing the emissions from the surface.

=^=Mirri, contact the Olinski and let them knew the situation and dimensions of that wave. I’m taking Green Squad in for a closer look. Copy?=^=

=^=Sehlat, you and Apex take a position on the starboard side of that wave. Papa Bear and I will be on the port. Maintain a position 180 degrees adjacent to us. We’re going to spiral down to the planets surface. Start at a distance of 4500 km from the center point and 10,000 km from the surface. Proceed in a clockwise direction, narrowing the radius while lowering the altitude. Maintain a distance of 100 km from the center, if we can. I want to get a visual on that oven on the surface. Copy, team?=^=

As the fighters were moving closer and closer, the hum came back again. Then Sehlat’s ship seems to stop moving in the spiral and moves straight to the centre.

On the surface, they were able to locate several emitters of the microwaves.
