USS Brian A. Olinski
An Unexpected Call
Ael was in his quarters, reading over pilot reports and finishing up his own when a call came in. =Personal Call- Origin: USS Ogawa.= ‘USS Ogawa? I don’t know anyone there.’ Out of sheer curiosity, he answered. “Lt Ael Khev…” and then the face on the other side hit him. “I guess you didn’t know.” his sister, Lena, said.
For years, as far as Ael knew, Lena had been dead. Burned up in the Hobus supernova. In recent months, it had come to light that she had been a Tal’Shiar prisoner, while Ael had commanded a fighter wing for them. After Lena’s escape, she sought to return to nursing, having little else.
“I’ve been granted the status of Federation Resident. In a few years, I can apply for citizenship. They granted me the rank of Ensign, and I took an exam, passed, I’m licensed as a surgical nurse now.”
“That’s good. You’d do the family proud.”
“What’s wrong? This is good news.”
“Starfleet is dangerous. You already died once.”
“I’m a nurse. There won’t be many firefights around me. And you’re one to talk mister fighter pilot.”
“You’re right. What even is the Ogawa?”
“Hospital ship. I report to a jerk. Or surgeon. They’re synonyms. Dr Marshall is a genius, and very aware of it.” They both laughed. They hadn’t laughed together in years.
