“Helm, take us to the second planet, one tenth impulse. We can speed up once the fighters verify that the way is safe,” Jason announced.

Jason Harn, XO

Mirri nodded “Second planet, one tenths impulse.” She continued moving the large ship towards their next destination, she was scanning the area around them to make sure that they were safe. She had a bad feeling about this, but she had been able to get a couple of escape routes planned should they be needed.”

Helm

Toro kept an eye on the fighters and the surrounding space. She was continuing to search the database for information on the current situation.

CIO

“Send out a hailing frequency,” Jason ordered. “Let’s let the Sierra know that we’re looking for them. Even if their subspace comms are down, they might find some way of contacting us.”

He felt a little sheepish crawling in at one tenth impulse into a system that Federation transports went through at warp on a regular basis, but Jason didn’t want to break Sidney’s spaceship. When Captain Parker returned from Starbase 214 Jason wanted to return the Olinski in the condition in which he got it.

OOC: I was deliberately vague when it came to who is sending out the hailing frequency. Although I assume that Toro or Ch’zaolrirh will send out the hailing frequency, I’ve watched enough TNG to know that just about any officer on the bridge could reconfigure his/her panel for comms. Even an NE could do it.

Jason Harn, XO, probably playing it too safe

The COS attempted a hail, “Attempting to hail them now.” As he awaited a response, he continued to review the cardassian maps. They appeared to be mostly accurate, but he still didn’t put it past the cardassians to casually “forget about a mine or two.”

COS Ch’zaolrirh

They had an audio response that seemed to be garbled: “Thank … zzzttt…storm … zzttt …repairs … “

GM

Kolar took the information from the audio response and ran it through the computer magnifying the verbal frequencies minimizing the static ones.

Jason blinked and leaned forward in his chair. He hadn’t expected a response so quickly. Deep down he had written this mission off as a recovery mission rather than a rescue mission. They had come in time! They could still do some good after all.

OOC: I’m back. I’m just going to have Doolittle come to the Bridge and jump in.
IC: Doolittle had instructed his team on what to do and to prepare for casualties if it came to that. So as a new Senior Officer he felt his place was on the Bridge. The turbolift doors opened and he looked for the First Officer, who in this case was not Harn. He did not remember who was the designated officer so he just cleared his throat as he approached the back of the Bridge and said.

“Uhh humm. I have a readiness report for the First Officer.” He wanted them to know he knew the protocols.

Doolittle MD

As he awaited a response he heard the incoming message. Being garbled he did not think there was a way he could determine if they were under stress. Anyway he was the CMO and not the CNS in his new role. He decided to play his role for now.

Doolittle

“Hm?” Jason looked at the doctor distractedly. “Which first officer? The acting first officer or the acting first officer?” he asked as he glanced at Kolar who was manning the science station. “Sorry Doc, but it looks like things are starting to pop. Kolar will be with you in a moment.” He glanced at the tactical station. “Thell can you clean that up? Contact them and let them know that we’ve heard them but can’t understand a word they’re saying.”

The tactical station tried to but was unable to clean up the signal. The sand storm that the ship sensors had been picking up from the planet was interfering with the communication signals.

GM

The war veteran in him told him that there was a tiny chance of the signal being faked, but if there was a trap hopefully Ric and his fighters would see it before it closed. In the meantime he decided to focus on finding the survivors of the Sierra.

Jason Harn, aCO

Toro looked up at Harn as they tried to clean up the signal. She began a different scan to see if there might be a fake or if it was genuine.

CIO

Mirri waited to see what happened “Can we track the signal and maybe get a bit closer and clean it up that way.”

Helm

The Dr did not reply to Harn as the aCO had clearly just told him Kolar had not been replaced for this mission as the usual back up XO. He then awaited his turn in the circle of events unfolding.

Doolittle

The frequency on that they had picked that garbled message on was the official Starfleet transport subspace frequency. It did not seem to be fake. The sand storm on the planet also seemed to be really going on, not a simulation or a fake projection.

GM

Ch’zaolrirh responded to the Sierra, =^= This is Lt. Jg. Ch’zaolrirh of the USS Olinski. Your signal is garbled. Please repeat. =^=

Tapping away at his console, he turned towards the aCO, “I can’t clean it up, but we should be able to triangulate the signal based on the positions of the fighter wing.”

COS Ch’zaolrirh

Kolar looked over to the doctor. “Bring it here doctor.” He could multitask and since the computer was doing all the hard work he was really just watching the screen. “Perhaps we should set a phaser bank and a photon battery for point defense… just in case all our precautions are for naught.”

Kolar

Dr. Doolittle said nothing about the weapons suggestion for two reasons. It was not directed to him and he was not an advocate of physical force of any kind.

Doolittle handed the CSO the PaDD. It was the complete preparations for casualties should they need to handle any.

Doolittle MD (Not a Doctor, Fremulon)

The Counselor turned to face the aCO. “Shouldn’t we send a probe to gather more information, Captain?” Trevor asked. “Otherwise we might be wasting resource in deploying our weapons.” The Counselor wasn’t intending on under minding Kolar, but rather wanted to offer another solution.
