She had avoided Ric all day since leaving the briefing. She knew what was coming but didn’t think it necessary. So she had busied herself in the hanger and ready room to hopefully keep it from happening.

But it hadn’t worked. Ric had simply tapped his comm badge and ordered her to see the ship’s counselor. She hasn’t been sleeping well since their last mission. Nightmares had wakened her enough times that even Ric was starting to notice. When she had suggested sleeping in her own quarters to allow him uninterrupted sleep, he had suggested the counselor then. She had said it was fine… But he knew better. A small smile upturned the edge of her lip as she straightened her tunic in front of the CNS’s door. He loved her and worked about her. So for her love in return, she’d nod politely, say she was doing much better and get it of here as quick as possible.

Tapping the door chime at the appointed time, she took a deep breath and plastered a smile on her face, murmuring, “I’m fine .. Just a little headache some nights,” as a practice to explain the sleepless nights.
