In the CIC, Ric nodded approvingly as to how the pilots had handled the feedback, at least for the most part. The unfortunate one being Papa Bear. The screech caused the Russian to slam his head back with enough violent force that he knocked himself unconscious. That had not been Ric’s intention, but he was monitoring Ursachenko’s vitals and the man appeared to only have blacked out. Therefore when the others made their moves, no response came from Papa Bear.

From the fighters sensors and visuals, the other pilots inn the group would see the bogey’s switch to an attack formation and begin closing fast on Green Squadron.

Ricochet (CAG)

“Computer, change all voice communications to text,” Jason ordered his fighter. “Both incoming and outgoing,” he clarified as he switched his subspace frequency back to the original channel. In the 24th century, even a fighter had the computing power to convert any vocal comms to text that would show up on the heads up display in each pilot’s visor. That would be distracting, but it couldn’t be helped. Time to test things to see if the signal could get through and if the fighters were able to hear his words through the static. “Change communications frequency to channel Alpha two,” he sent before switching his comm systems to the suggested channel. It was then he noticed Poppa Bear was drifting, apparently out of control.

Jason Harn, XO

Xandra had let out a slight scream of pain and switched off the comm before it got to her too much. “Ric, I’ll kill you,” she muttered under her breath and grit her teeth hard to try and hold back the headache she knew the pitch would cause. It was a good sim training, but a little warning would have been nice. But then again, wasn’t that the point?

She watched Apex take lead and saw the others fall in as each one tried separate ways to communicate. She had been about to suggest the heads up audio displayed text when Ric chimed in with the comm channel change. A smile lit her space darkened face as she responded and changed channels. Seeing Papa Bear drift, she guessed he was the ‘casualty’ of the pitch in their ears. Papa Bear drifting, anyone have eyes on? Need to see if harmed or ship malfunction. She watched the typed words dance over the screen as the HUD beeped a warning about the incoming formation. Another growl but this one because she was about to lose a pair and didn’t like it.

Ael switched on his text comms so he was on the same channel as squad leader.

Knowing the others needed the training more, and now was a better time to ‘die’ than in real combat, if it happened, she added to her transmission, I’m going to grab Papa and get him back to the ship. Do not fire unless fired upon, but don’t let them close enough to the ship to be a hazard. Apex, you are lead now.

Copy. He responded.

She had the feeling it would rankle a few folks to set him in the lead, but he had pulled forward to begin with so it seemed right to let him hold it and see what he could do. She pitched a roll and headed for the derelict ship. She then gave orders for her second to form up with Papa Bear’s partner. Switching things up even more.

Lt Xandra Primage
Green Leader

Ric nodded approvingly as the squad made adjustments so they could communicate. Another nod to Sehlat for allowing Apex take the lead. The Romulan did, after all, have more experience in a fighter than any of the others. The only caveat being that most of that experience was in Romulan fighters. Still, it would be interesting to see how he reacted.

As Green Squad made their adjustments, the bogeys adjusted as well. One bandit peeled off in the direction of the drifting Papa Bear. The other five continued the approach to Green squad. Once they were in range, the unidentified ships opened fire.

All wings engage. Came a transmission from Apex.

Closer visual inspection revealed them to be cresent-shaped ships, with weapon turrets and the end of each wing. The slim opening in the front of the body of the ship appeared to be the cockpit which emitted a pulsing red light. Directly under the cockpit another turret appeared. This one obviously for launching torpedoes . . .

Ricochet (CAG)

Sehlat, Papa Bear, watch for bogey incoming. Ael hated text communication in a firefight. As his bird was fired upon, he returned the favour, accelerating. Drawing nearer. He knew, odds were, his Cutlass, designed for dogfighting, was narrower than their wingspan. And therefore, he had the edge. A little smirk crossed his face as he had to start dodge and weave a little. This was how his life was meant to be.

-Lt.(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex.

“On your six Apex” Jason communicated as he guided his simulated fighter behind the Romulan’s. It wasn’t until he discovered that he had let a target get away that he realized that he was concentrating so much on matching his wingmate’s moves, that he was in danger of ignoring everything else. If he didn’t watch it, they were going to end up with a hostile in back of them.

Jason Harn, XO, concentrating too much on playing “follow the leader”

Toro maintained her position and stayed on Harn’s wing and helped defend against the incoming fighters, she didn’t like using text during a fight, it just complicated things, but she wasn’t in charge of this anymore. She was in Intelligence now and she liked that just as much.

CIO

Xandra growled as one of the enemy headed for Papa Bear. “Oh, no, you don’t!” She murmured as she fired at it and placed herself between the unconscious pilot’s ship and the enemy. She glanced starboard to see the others were handling things then back to her own trouble.

Despite keeping it weaving back and forth, Xandra want able to get a good enough shot to kill her attacker. She spent so much time defending the knocked out pilot, she couldn’t pause to implement the commands that would override its computer and send it back to the main ship.

Lt Xandra Primage
Pilot

A text message appeared on the screens of Green Squad. “Switch radio frequency to Whiskey Tango Foxtrot 1-0-6. Channel is clear from interference.”

When it was confirmed in CIC that all the comms had switched, Ric keyed his mic. =^=Sehlat, I have remote control of Papa Bear and returning him to mother. Guard his six until their is no pursuit, then get back in the fight as soon as he is clear.=^=

The bogeys were well coordinated in their attack. Their tactics were different, almost random. They would fire one volley of shots at Green Squad, launch a pair of torpedoes, then switch to a different target. . . .

Ricochet (CAG)

Ael changed his comms channel. =/\=Don’t let them phase you, don’t get caught out in the open. Stay tight, keep shooting.=/\= As the bogeys came on their next run, Ael picked one out to target and fired at it with everything he had.

OOC: Leaving it to CAG if my targets go down or not.

-Lt(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex

With years of experience behind him, Apex’ first shot caught his target on a crescent shaped wing, causing it to spin uncontrolably until it slammed into the face of one of the asteroids and explode. . .

CAG

Jason fired his Templar’s phasers on the enemy fighter’s wingman, firing in front of his target so that it would fly into his weapons fire.

Jason Harn, XO, callsign “Mayor”

Harn’s phaser’s burned bright as the energy released. He had a good track o the enemy, but at the last minute, the bandit veered away, avoiding the shots and maneuvering back in the get a shot at Mayor. The phasers stalled for a moment as a torpedo sprang forth from the mount under the fuselage.

OOC: You don’t think I was going to let you shoot down one of the bad guys with your first shot, did you? He hasn’t been in the cockpit in years!!! –Terry :p

IC: Back in CIC, Ric listened to the comm chatter between the Green Squad. He turned to look at the NE manning the station next to him. ‘Did Harn just change his callsign mid-mission?”

“I think. . . yeah, that’s kinda what it sounded like, sir,” replied the NE

One of Ric’s eyebrows rose i confusion. “Did he say ‘mayor’, as in ‘the leader of a town’, or ‘mare’ as in ‘a female horse’?”

This time the NE just shrugged his shoulders and returned his gaze at the dogfight on his monitor.

OOC: Just having a little fun at your expense, R!!
