=^=Aye-aye Mister Gould,=^= Jason replied. =^=Stand by. Dragoon out.=^= He looked over at Lieutenant Reynolds, who was manning the tactical console. Reynolds had the dubious honor of being the highest ranking officer of the Dragoon who was fit for duty. “You know this ship and its people better than I do Mister Reynolds. Make it happen. I’ll have Sullivan cover for you at tactical if you can’t find one of your people.”

Was Reynolds really the Dragoon’s highest ranking officer available? Or had the ship’s Vulcan medical officer (whose name escaped him) managed to get anyone with more seniority ambulatory and fit for duty? In any case, if the Dragoon’s sickbay had managed to restore the ship’s captain, first officer, or chief engineer it was likely that Jason was about to find out. None of those three officers would be able to resist getting involved if they found out that an officer from another starship was taking his ship apart, even if it was something as minor as a few of the ship’s batteries.

OOC: I’ve discovered a Lt. Rachel Sebastian, engineer https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf5/olinski/notes/29228/ , and a Science Officer T’Phran, but no medical officer. I must have mistaken T’Phran for a medical officer when she was really a science officer. Oops.

Turing his attention from Reynolds, Jason pivoted his chair to address the science console. “How are you progressing on your analysis Kolar?” he asked conversationally before kicking himself for interrupting the Bajoran’s calculations. He had assumed that he was making small talk while they waited for Kolar’s decryption program to read the Iconian data, but the odds were that he was merely breathing down the science officer’s neck and disturbing a genius at work. Sherlock Holmes didn’t need Inspector Lestrade interrupting a three pipe problem.

Gould and Toro are down on the derelict attempting to prevent the power from shutting down so we can study the Iconian technology further. We’ve devised a way to keep the lights on down there a few hours but in my opinion keeping the power on for a long term study seems ambitious. =^=

=^=Acknowledged Gould,=^= Jason replied. He looked at Kolar. “He named the Iconian ship? How are your efforts coming along?”

Kolar looked up, “The data firming… there is Iconian DNA in the natives… the question is whether it is direct or related DNA. the difference between us and another creature native to our planet is 80%, to a biped of a similar phylum is 90% so hard proof isn’t confirmed yet, but every minute the odds are going up… not down. At this point we are over 10% likely and climbing.... I suspect we can confirm it within the hour.”

“Hm, as far as I know, hybrids born of two species are sterile unless they get some high tech medical help,” Jason mused while stroking his manly chin. “Did the Iconians modify the DNA of their partially Iconian offspring to create a new race? Do species actually do that to avoid going extinct?”

From the analysis, it would seem that the Iconians introduced their genes into the natives of the planet rather than ‘bred’ with them. In a controlled environment, it was possible to develop a species to a level where they would be able to understand the Iconian technology. From the data that Kolar was analysing, it was very probable that was what the Iconians were trying to do. Visitors to the planet would be controlled to add to the technological advance. This would shorten the time for the development of the species.
