Kolar kept quiet about that, the officers had the power issue in hand. Although a battery probably would be insufficient as a power replacement for fusion generator.

=/\=Now you’re talking about mixing and matching systems. It’s possible, but there’s likely a lot of rigging involved. A battery buys us three hours. Enough time to restart main power. Not all systems, just the main power core. Computers, life support, and base electricity would default to using that. The ship itself stays mostly as it is, but we’re not on a constant deadline.=/\=

Jason glanced over at Kolar before responding. =^=It sounds like you’ll need the Dragoon’s batteries beamed over to you in any case if you don’t want to be working in the dark. Send us a list of what you need and we’ll beam it down to you.=^=

Kolar shrugged. He wasn’t an engineer, “Three hours on a battery might be on the high side, but whatever it is, it sounds like we are going to have to replace the fusion-able material in the engine, then restart it. If we had to do it on a star-ship that would take an hour at least and we know what we are doing with that.” He tilted his head. “I’m glad I’m up here when they try it.”

Jason chuckled in agreement. “I hear that. I just suggested the ship’s batteries to buy some time so that Gould won’t try to rush his real plan to keep the lights on down there. Using the wrong kind of fuel on an alien starship is one thing, but using the wrong kind of fuel on an alien starship that is thousands of years old is asking for trouble.”
