That changed everything. Well not everything, but the implications certainly changed a lot. Jason paused in order to reflect on the ramifications of this new piece of news. =^=A colony ship?=^= he finally queried. +^=Do you have access to any DNA records? We can compare them to medical readings the landing party took of the ‘natives’.=^=

=/\=Gould to Harn. You’re about to receive a crew manifest. It still needs translating, but there are only two of us and so many consoles down here, and I still need to get this bird running.=/\=

A few moments later, files came through.

“Files are coming through sir,” Ensign Koizumi reported.

“Very good,” Jason nodded before turning to the Dragoon officer manning the tactical console. “Mister Reynolds, do you have a computer scientist aboard? Or an astro-archeologist specializing in the Iconian civilization? We’re going to need to translate those files before asking your medical officers to make DNA comparisons.”

Jason Harn, XO, who has forgotten the name of the Vulcan CMO of the Dragoon.

Before Reynolds could reply Gould made another report from the Iconian spacecraft.

=/\=Gould to Harn. The Iconian ship is out of fuel for its warp core. Sir, what if she got caught in the microwaves? They tried to mine the planet for resources to fuel their warp core, didn’t work. Plan B: blend in with the natives and find a new way out. You see sir, I’m betting, at least one of them thinks like an engineer. Those microwave emitters come from somewhere and were built by someone. Find them, find their resources, maybe even a new bird, bug out.=/\=

=^=I see, so the question is, did they manage to hijack a new ship, or were they forced to simply live on the planet until the end of their days?=^= Jason mused out loud. =^=Are the denizens of that planet descended from the Iconians, or from whoever they stole a starship from? The answer would tell us why the mind control weapon was left on. The thing is, if the Iconians weren’t responsible for the mind controlling microwaves, who was?=^=

=^=That’s what I intend to find out, sir,=^=Jason replied as if he had been conversing with Parker the entire time instead of Gould. =^=Toro and Gould managed to send some computer files up to us and I wanted to compare the DNA from the derelict’s medical files to the readings taken of the natives down on the planet. The thing is, I’m hesitant to send the computer files to the Olinski since if I remember correctly the USS Yamato was destroyed by an Iconian computer virus. I’m thinking, worse case scenario, we better have a spare starship. Do we have a spare a computer scientist or astro-archeologist we can beam to the Dragoon to analyze the data?=^=

=^=Exactly, but what if the ‘natives’ you found the surface are the descendants of the Iconians?=^= Jason replied to the chief science officer. =^=The derelict is the remains of an Iconian colony ship. From what I’ve been told, the people you found on the surface haven’t thought for themselves for generations. What if they were descended from the Iconians and don’t know it? Of course, there’s always Mister Gould’s theory that the Iconians became marooned on this planet and created that microwave mind control trap so they could hijack someone else’s starship. In that case there’s a possibility that the people down on the planet are descended from whoever they hijacked, but I’m thinking they’re the descendants of the Iconians. We’ve got some files from the derelict’s computer but we’ll need a computer specialist or an astro archeologist to decrypt them. Got anybody on your staff you can recommend, Commander?=^=

That is an uncommon major,=^= Kolar thought for a moment, =^=Ellen Ripley has a minor in advanced dead races, she wrote a paper her senior year for her history class on the Iconians… it was very good. She received an A , I would have given it a B+.=^= He looked around for a moment, =^=But I digress, the best computer specialist we have… trying not to be immodest, is me.=^=

=/\=Lt Gould to Cmdr Harn. I can do it sir. But I need a very specific set of things. It’s probably best if we get it from Dragoon shuttles. Two shuttlecraft warp core dilithium chambers, fused together. I also need deuterium. And enough tubing to route the matter/antimatter flow in the right direction. Sir, this thing ran out of fuel, they mined as long as they could and abandoned ship. They didn’t use dilithium. And whatever it was they used, I don’t recognise it. That’s probably why they couldn’t get their hands on any. Sir, I know I’m rambling, but this is big. We can get an Iconian ship up and running. Request permission to proceed with the reboot?=/\=
