OOC: Just recap and continue this lil side sim if you are still so inclined to do so:Little Sehlat, Papa Bear, X, Toro, and Ael (sorry Sam, but I’m having a brainfart on his call sign) were investing an asteroid field that was being mined by a private company. There were unidentified craft that had been buzzing around and the miners were getting nervous.
The squad encountered 6 alien craft and when Papa Bear asked them to identify themselves, the response was a very loud, high-pitched, very painful screech that came through all of our comm units. Of course, Ric was affected because he was running this simulation.
I believe the last post before the swich over was Harn, but I don’t recall exactly what his post said.
R, if you can remember and repost that, we can continue on from that point. If anybody has any questions, I’ll answer them as best as I can
Terry (Ricochet)
The shriek coming in over his comm system was unbearable, and Jason couldn’t even remove his helmet to silence the noise in a timely manner. He quickly switched comm frequencies to get off the channel that had that painful noise, and if that didn’t work, he would disengage the comm system all together. As soon as he was able to think clearly, he realized that the enemy had just found a way to sever the squadron’s communications, leaving them disorganized and uncoordinated. Even now he realized that he was flying off course, Papa Bear’s simulated fighter was farther away than it should have been.

Vulcan and Romulan ears were far more sensitive than those of most other species. Ael howled in pain as he switched his comms off. Risky, yes. But he couldn’t fly with that noise in his ears. Sehlat had left Papa Bear in charge for a moment. He’d done something similar back in his day. Testing to make sure everyone can handle the pressure of having to take the lead. With that in mind, and an old trick up his sleeve, he took lead position. He pitched his left wing up twice. Then he pitched the nose of his Cutlass up twice. The signal; form up, maneuver left, do not engage.
-Lt.(j.g.) Ael Khev, Apex
Jason instinctively moved his simulated fighter behind Ael’s, proof that his antiquated training wasn’t completely forgotten. If he would have realized that he was following the lead of a ROMULAN, he would have overloaded his flight suit’s waste disposal system.
Jason Harn, XO, racist grandpa
Toro remained in formation. She had managed to keep herself focused enough to maintain her concentration, she knew that comms had been severed, she used the lights on her fighter to communicate with the others using morse code.

In the CIC, Ric nodded approvingly as to how the pilots had handled the feedback, at least for the most part. The unfortunate one being Papa Bear. The screech caused the Russian to slam his head back with enough violent force that he knocked himself unconscious. That had not been Ric’s intention, but he was monitoring Ursachenko’s vitals and the man appeared to only have blacked out. Therefore when the others made their moves, no response came from Papa Bear.
From the fighters sensors and visuals, the other pilots inn the group would see the bogey’s switch to an attack formation and begin closing fast on Green Squadron.
Ricochet (CAG)
“Computer, change all voice communications to text,” Jason ordered his fighter. “Both incoming and outgoing,” he clarified as he switched his subspace frequency back to the original channel. In the 24th century, even a fighter had the computing power to convert any vocal comms to text that would show up on the heads up display in each pilot’s visor. That would be distracting, but it couldn’t be helped. Time to test things to see if the signal could get through and if the fighters were able to hear his words through the static. “Change communications frequency to channel Alpha two,” he sent before switching his comm systems to the suggested channel. It was then he noticed Poppa Bear was drifting, apparently out of control.

Xandra had let out a slight scream of pain and switched off the comm before it got to her too much. “Ric, I’ll kill you,” she muttered under her breath and grit her teeth hard to try and hold back the headache she knew the pitch would cause. It was a good sim training, but a little warning would have been nice. But then again, wasn’t that the point?
She watched Apex take lead and saw the others fall in as each one tried separate ways to communicate. She had been about to suggest the heads up audio displayed text when Ric chimed in with the comm channel change. A smile lit her space darkened face as she responded and changed channels. Seeing Papa Bear drift, she guessed he was the ‘casualty’ of the pitch in their ears. Papa Bear drifting, anyone have eyes on? Need to see if harmed or ship malfunction. She watched the typed words dance over the screen as the HUD beeped a warning about the incoming formation. Another growl but this one because she was about to lose a pair and didn’t like it.
Ael switched on his text comms so he was on the same channel as squad leader.
Knowing the others needed the training more, and now was a better time to ‘die’ than in real combat, if it happened, she added to her transmission, I’m going to grab Papa and get him back to the ship. Do not fire unless fired upon, but don’t let them close enough to the ship to be a hazard. Apex, you are lead now.
Copy. He responded.
She had the feeling it would rankle a few folks to set him in the lead, but he had pulled forward to begin with so it seemed right to let him hold it and see what he could do. She pitched a roll and headed for the derelict ship. She then gave orders for her second to form up with Papa Bear’s partner. Switching things up even more.
Lt Xandra Primage
Green LeaderRic nodded approvingly as the squad made adjustments so they could communicate. Another nod to Sehlat for allowing Apex take the lead. The Romulan did, after all, have more experience in a fighter than any of the others. The only caveat being that most of that experience was in Romulan fighters. Still, it would be interesting to see how he reacted.
As Green Squad made their adjustments, the bogeys adjusted as well. One bandit peeled off in the direction of the drifting Papa Bear. The other five continued the approach to Green squad. Once they were in range, the unidentified ships opened fire.
All wings engage. Came a transmission from Apex.
Closer visual inspection revealed them to be cresent-shaped ships, with weapon turrets and the end of each wing. The slim opening in the front of the body of the ship appeared to be the cockpit which emitted a pulsing red light. Directly under the cockpit another turret appeared. This one obviously for launching torpedoes . . .
Ricochet (CAG)
Sehlat, Papa Bear, watch for bogey incoming. Ael hated text communication in a firefight. As his bird was fired upon, he returned the favour, accelerating. Drawing nearer. He knew, odds were, his Cutlass, designed for dogfighting, was narrower than their wingspan. And therefore, he had the edge. A little smirk crossed his face as he had to start dodge and weave a little. This was how his life was meant to be.
