SNAP
Laughing, “No problem. I’ll get that for you.” With the tools in hand he undid the panel and saw her. He smiled. “Hi. Come here often?” He said with a grin. “What else do you need help with?”
Lt. Steve Johnson, CE
Xandra laughed as his face came into view beneath her. “Probably more than I should.” After a second of squirming, she slowly snaked a conduit cable between the engine case and the wall of the shuttle. “Take this and there should be a connector for it just to your left, back up underneath. I may have been able to eventually get it from here, but it wouldn’t have been pretty.” It was her turn to laugh.
Xandra
CAGHe laughed at her statement and grabbed the cable. “Well, I think anything that you do is pretty. And I mean that.” While giving her a grin and moving the cable into position and connecting it. “There. That is done. What else?”
Lt. Steve Johnson, CE
She laughed and shook her head. “You haven’t been on the ship long… have you?” Hooking her end of the cable she nodded. “Nope, that should do it. Crew can run the tests now. If you wouldn’t mind putting that panel back on, I think that’s if for this ol’ gal.” She reached down near her hip and grabbed the tool she needed and started working on securing the line in place while he put the cover back on. “So what made you come out here? I mean, a fighter in the middle of space? I know nearly every ship ends up in a fight at some point. But we actually go out specifically TO fight.” She laughed because most folks just ended up here cause of orders. It was the ones who sought out the Oli as a temporary home that intrigued her most.

CAG“Well I have been on here long enough to know what is pretty and what is not.” Putting the cover back on and then getting up to get behind her to assist her getting out of the craft if she needed it, he continued. “I like a challenge. I like adventure and I like being part of something. That is why I chose this ship. I didn’t expect to get it since this is my first DH job and it is an important ship. So, I will work my tail off to be worthy of the ship and her crew. Now that I am behind you, do you need help getting out of that tight area you’re in?” Admiring the view.
Lt. Steve Johnson, CE
Xandra laughed and scooted back to drop out of the shaft. “Appreciate it. But guess I’m just used to doing my own thing. As for being here, don’t burn yourself out trying to prove yourself. Remember what you said, this is an important ship. You already proved yourself or you wouldn’t be here. So just take that into consideration when you are pushing yourself. Don’t want you burning out before your time.”
She nodded to the tools around her feet. “Though, I’m not beneath asking for help putting tools back.” She squatted down and began to place the tools back. The deck boxes were twice the size of the ones engineering used. And it seemed everything has a specific spot, rather than just ‘this drawer’ or ‘that drawer’. It was spot specific almost to an OCD level.
Xandra
CAG“Thanks. But there a bunch of little things that need attending to that my team is working on. Little cracks in the damn cause a major flood eventually and I do not mind helping out with the tools.” Bending down and looking at the box and tools. “Say, we need this for engineering. Another good idea brought to you by Xandra.” He said smiling. “But this will help lessen the chance of placing something important into the wrong drawer or area. I like it.” Finishing up the tools he helped carry them to whre they needed to go and glanced over at the CAG. “So. Do you have any plans for tonight? I was thinking that since you eat and I also eat, that we could get something together?”
Lt. Steve Johnson, CE
Xandra smiled at the comment about the tool box. “Out here, a misplaced or lost tool can down an aircraft or make it explode on a turn in space. So, yeah, we have to be super careful about our tools. And sometimes we are in a rush, so this helps out a lot. Easy to do, really,” she showed him the list of tools on the lid of each box, and how each tool had an outline or cushion spot made for it. “This way you can see, at a glance, what’s missing. And tool boxes are signed out and signed in with a secondary, supervisor, signature. So when we do shift changes, we also count the boxes. Sure, it’s a space ship, not like it’s being left behind. But this way nothing is left inside an aircraft or pushed to a corner cause someone went on lunch and didn’t come back to retrieve it.”
“That I can agree with wholeheartedly. Don’t need ships blowing up because of a lazy person or a rush job gone bad. Accidents happen but this at least will help to lessen them.”
She smiled when he, round about, asked her to dinner. “As a matter of fact, I ‘do’ eat. I hear it’s a thing. And yes, in answer to your query, I would love to have dinner with you tonight. Say, 2100 in the officer’s mess? Late enough to avoid the main crowd and early enough to still get to bed at a decent hour.” She laughed because she would remain up most the of the night, regardless. She just did.
Xandra
CAGSmiling when she said that She would love to have dinner with him. “That is great! 2100hrs it is. I will see you then or before if something else breaks in here and you need me.” Then it dawned on him. “Hmm. Maybe a stupid question but since I am still new to this ship, do we have to wear our uniforms to the officer mess or can I wear what I want? I don’t want to come in looking like a tool either way. I am nervous as it is and don’t need more.”
Lt. Steve Johnson, CE
Travis
Xandra laughed and shook her head. “You can wear pretty much anything you want. I definitely recommend clothes and not your bathing suit or pajamas. Though,” she grinned at him with mischief in her eyes, “if pajamas are a must, then I’d save it for third shift. Most of the crew is in there first and second shift and you would never live it down.”
Worried he was going to think of something more formal, she added, “And no worries. I’ll be in casual wear that isn’t my uniform. So you will be fine.” It wasn’t that she was opposed to formal meals, but tonight when they’d just met, would give the wrong impression.
