Posted by Lieutenant Commander Siegfried Abel (Chief Medical Officer) in PreSim: Arrival of the CMO - Wow, Thats Going To Be A Lot Of Paperwork (Tag All DH’s and Marine OIC’s)
The newly promoted Lieutenant Commander Siegfried Abel sat on the bed in his cabin on the passenger liner that was taking him to the last leg of his journey to his new ship. New ship… he thought to himself as he reviewed the next in a seemingly endless run of medical records. Still can’t believe the Odin is gone. and he physically shook the thought from his mind. He looked at the record before him and scowled. How long has this ship… and he shook his head again. No… there is no use in getting upset or looking to find blame. The situation is what is. he thought. “And it falls to me to make it work.” he said aloud.
Five days later, a shuttle slid into the Olinski’s shuttlebay and settled to the deck. After a moment the hatch slid open and a tall, dark red-haired, and very handsome man dressed in the blue uniform of the Medical section stepped out. He looked around, his green eyes taking in the three-story tall bay and he nodded in appreciation. A yeoman approached and said “Excuse me. Lieutenant Commander Abel?” Siegfried smiled and said “That would be me, yes.” The yeoman nodded and said “Sir, if you will follow me. I will show you to your quarters. Operations will make sure your belongings are sent there and to your office.: Abel nodded and then said “Um, if it isn’t too much of a hassle, can we please go straight to Sickbay? I can manage from there.” The Yeoman looked a little surprised but said “Of course, sir. Please, follow me.” They made their way up the twenty or so decks vis the turbo lift and exited on Deck Ten. The Yeoman led Abel to Sickbay and then said “Is there anything else, sir?” Abel shook his head and said “No, no thank you. I appreciate your time.” The yeoman nodded and walked back towards the turbolift.
Abel took a breath and then stepped through the doors. The place was much larger than the Sickbay on the Odin. He glanced at the reception desk and felt a pang of sadness that Nurse Washington wasn’t there. She had been an amazing nurse, and the banter between her and Abel was something he would always cherish. He walked up to the desk, occupied by a Deltan male with Second Class Petty Officer rank on his collar. “Lieutenant Commander Siegfried Abel. I am the new Chief Medical Officer.” and he extended a hand to the figure. The Petty Officer stammered slightly and then stood up and took the hand. “y-y-yes, sir! Um… welcome aboard, sir! We didn’t know you had arrived, Commander, I’m sorry! We didn’t expect you for another few days!” Abel smiled and said “Relax… Medic, is it?” “Yes, sir. But I am working on my nursing degree.” Abel nodded. “Excellent! If I can help, just let me know. But… I do have some quick work to do in my office before I drop off my things. Is the office ready?” The Medic nodded and said “Yes, sir. Just waiting for you.” Abel smiled again and said “Thanks. Oh, and if you could get everyone on duty together? Keep it quiet, we don’t want to disturb the patients. I just want to say something when I’m done.” The Deltan nodded and said “Right away, Commander.” and he moved away to round up the staff.
Abel walked into the office and looked around. Bigger than the office on the Odin. Empty save for the standard furniture. And wholly devoid of anything resembling personality. “A blank canvas, then…” he said and dropped his bag to the floor and then went around and sat down at the desk. He pulled up the comms and prepped an automated message for the entirety of the Command staff, both Star Fleet and Marine. =/\= Attention. I am Lieutenant Commander Siegfried Abel, the new Chief Medical Officer. While I would like to take the next few days meeting and talking with each of you, I find that we are pressed for time. To that end, all Command and Marine leadership are hereby requested to come to Upper Sickbay for their regular physicals within the next twelve hours. I know this is not standard for such matters, but again.. pressed for time to get all of this caught up. I thank you and look forward to meeting all of you. =/\= and he pressed ‘Send’.
Abel then stood up and walked out into Sickbay. There were six nurses and two doctors on duty, as well as the receptionist. “Hello, everyone.” Abel said with a smile. “I am Lieutenant Commander Abel, your new Chief Medical Officer. Over the next few days, we will all have a chance to talk and get to know one another better. But right now we are in serious need of updating the records.” That elicited a groan and Abel nodded in sympathy. “I know, I know… but we have to get it done. I just sent a message to all Command, Department Heads, and Marine OIC personnel. They will all be arriving in the next twelve hours for their regular physicals. I am going to my quarters just long enough to drop off this bag, then I plan on being here until we have all the senior staff up to date. After that, it will be easier to go section by section and get everyone done. Understood?” There was some grumbling, but everyone agreed. “Excellent. Thank you all, and I will be back in about twenty minutes. Dismissed.” and he moved out of the medical section and to the turbolift.
It was nineteen minutes and eleven seconds later when the new CMO walked in. Standard uniform under a white coat and a PaDD in hand, he said “Ok, everyone. Who is my Charge Nurse on duty?” A raised hand and a quick conference, and the Medical staff began to get to work.
Abel, CMO
