This post, and the large staff that came with it, was a big promotion. Perhaps not in direct rank or authority, but in respect. Alexandra wrote home about it, almost as soon as it happened. Her family was proud. And so was she.

A mission into her service on this ship, Alexandra stood staring out of a window in her quarters. She watched space go by and thought about her time in Starfleet. What it meant to her. The answer was complicated. She hadn’t known, when she applied to the academy, how abnormal the experience of being in Starfleet would be. But abnormal wasn’t bad. Every day was different. Every challenge was new.

=Computer. Request command school training materials.= Taking the course was no guarantee, but it’d put her in the running for promotion. She had chosen this life. All that was left was follow through.
