Ensign Dumbledoff was working on his experiment. Not one absolutely approved by the Science Department. It was a molecular destabilization energy beam. Not unlike transporter technology but in the reverse. It took the molecular structure at the quantum level and broke it apart. Which is to say it was somewhat like a Romulan disrupter but where that weapon affected cells at the atomic level this experiment further. It broke down to the level where the quite mysterious process of wave function vs particle function. His goal was to separate the actual process and be the first one to be able to distinguish them as they occurred. It would gain him the highest accolades of any scientist ever. One of the reasons he joined Starfleet was to have access to the tech necessary to conduct research like this.

Now with that said this was not an authorized research line on a starship. Even the most sophisticated labs on a planet avoided this research. It had, to say the least, dangerous consequences and unpredictable outcomes. As a serious line of research it was shied away from except by some super secret military research. Dumbledoff was more interested in unlocking technologies and to do what others had not done. He had no interest in militarizing it. However he was knowingly violating every rule on the books and probably a law to conduct his research. It was why he chose a very small lab, secretly routing some more sophisticated equipement and even power sources to do the research. Not enough to get noticed but enough to experiment on the micro level and fly under the radar of detection.

It was this moment that he had arrived at. He was going to dissect a light particle, one single photo, through a very complicated process and capture the transition of a wave to a particle or vice versa. He knew there would be a momentary indication on the main science panel on the bridge as he momentarily used the full power of the deflector dish to do the micro second experiment but it would just appear as a harmless surge and be so quick he was willing to take the chance.

He took a breath and then fired the experiment. There as a flash of light that seemed to be everywhere and then a much more serious warning indication on the main panel of the Bridge Science station. It would appears as if there was a hull breach that suddenly disappeared. With an intense amount of photonic radiation flooding deck 15 near the small science lab 10a.
