“Is there anyone who is in the show business who might point a person toward you?” Poirot said. For him it was simply seeing the patterns. It was possible that someone picked him at random but not likely. He would go so far as to assume that Mr. Hill had a penchant for damsels in distress. This meant that the other Mrs. Goodwin did her research and someone pointed her in Hill’s direction.

Poirot

Plunkett was still pursuing the paper in the corner. The article about Harry’s death was too bare bones to give him any additional clues. Listening in to the conversation, he decided to find the entertainment section, perhaps he could find a show that might of aligned with Harry’s interests in travel and history.

Ch’zaolrirh (Plunkett)

According to the article in the newspaper, Harry Goodwin washed ashore last night after someone apparently dumped him in the Bay. Strangle marks around his throat indicate he was killed before entering the water.

“Is there perhaps someone Mr Hill knows?” Edison asked Jason. “Err..excuse me. I mean. Well, Mr Hill, do you know anyone in the showbusiness industry?”

Lt (j.g) Edison Dowe (Science)

Jason looked at Sidney and Edison with an expression that said “how should I know? Then he remembered that they really didn’t expect him to answer that question and with Katherine Goodwin present they were still “on stage” with respect to non player characters. “I know a lot of people in this town,” he purred in character. “My reputation precedes me, perhaps not as much as yours Mister Poirot, but when folks are in trouble I come highly recommended. The way I see it, we have two… no wait maybe three options. First, we can retrace our steps and find out if any clue to who the fake Missus Goodwin was or what happened to Harry shows up. Two, we can drop by the police station and find out if any of Mister Plunkett’s friends on the force know anything. And third… uh… third… um… we check with any underworld contacts and see if anyone is trying to sell the Serpent.”

Jason Harn, XO

Poirot nodded his head but frowned. A good use of physical exertion but not a good use of the gray cells.

Poirot will go to the show business people. As locating the fake Mrs. Goodwin seems the logical choice. “Shooting the dark” as they say is not what Poirot considers a good use of time.

“Mrs. Goodwin do you have a photo of yourself?” He asked her. “As this woman pretends to look like you then it makes sense to look for you Mrs. Goodwin. Someone will recognize the features.”

Poirot

“Does this woman look like me?” Katherine Goodwin frowned before turning to narrow her eyes at Jason. “Mister Hill, that imposter didn’t look like me did she? I don’t see how my photo would help.”

“Um, no Missus Goodwin, she didn’t,” Jason admitted. “In the first place she was a redhead, while…”

“I’m starting to think Mister Poriot is still harboring doubts on my identity,” the porcelain blonde sneered as she turned back to Sidney. “He wants to show MY photograph around and check on my movements for that evening. Very well, Mister Poriot, if you must have my photograph you can come to my house and I’ll find one for you. That way you can assure yourself that I have NOTHING to hide.”

“We’ll do that!” Jason smiled stupidly as he pointed to Missus Goodwin.

Jason Harn, AKA Dixon Hill, finally making a decision

Poirot wanted to show outward surprise that the woman who now said she was Mrs. Goodwin had caught onto his ruse to confirm that. However he just smiled.

“Very well Mrs. Goodwin. Poirot will come to you tomorrow to pay the visit.” He said and made a small bow.

Poirot

Plunkett gave up on the paper. His attempts to understand the entertainment section were futile. He might as well have been reading hieroglyphics. Dropping it back onto the desk he had an idea of his own. Wandering out of the office, he approached Dixon’s secretary. As a friend of Dixon’s he assumed they had a rapport, “Why hello there…” He paused for a moment, not remembering her name. What was it that Jason called everyone? “....uh....dollface? I hope Dix hasn’t been giving you much trouble?”

“That’s all right,” Mrs. Goodwin smiled. “I’m USED to getting the runaround.”

Before she could shut him down, he hurried past the small talk, “Say, Dix said you had a visitor the other day. A red head? Do you remember what car she got into yesterday? Was it one of the regular cabbies outside? I wanted to have a talk with her driver.”

  • Plunkett (Ch’zaolrirh)

“That’s right, the taxi company!” Jason snapped his fingers. “We made a note of the time. If we go to the taxi company we should find out who was driving that cab!”

OOC: Fixing some spelling errors!

OOC: Sorry about that! The newspaper DOES have a few clues…

IC: The article in the newspaper reported the Harry Goodwin (who had just returned from Mexico) washed ashore last night after somebody apparently dumped him in the Bay. Strangle marks around his throat indicates that he was killed before entering the water.

“So do we want to take a cab or do we want to just move ahead to Mrs. Goodwin’s house?” Jason asked quietly.

Jason Harn, XO

Poirot, while not a reader of newspapers as much as Hastings did glance at it upon seeing it put down. He saw, in a smaller photo a shot of Goodwin and in it was Goodwin and his wife. A visit now was not necessary but still useful tomorrow.

“I am sorry Mrs. Goodwin. Poirot and his trustful Hastings must go. We will see you tomorrow morning for that visit.” He said as he bowed to her and motioned for Hastings to come while pointing his pinky to the newspaper in an attempt to get Hastings to bring it along.

Poirot

“All right, where do we want to go?” Katherine Goodwin asked, making it quite clear that she intended to tag along. “Mister Poirot and his friend may have better things to do but what’s your plan Mister Hill?”

“Let’s go the taxi company and see if we can trace that driver,” Jason suggested. “Then we can hit Mrs. Goodwin’s house and look through her husband’s papers and see if he knew who our little redhead was.”

OOC: I keep missing things. Guess I’m not quite ready to be a GM yet. Are we playing “split the party” or does Sidney have an early shift tomorrow?

Jason Harn, XO

OOC: Poirot wants to hit the entertainment district to see if he can find someone who might look like Goodwin and see if this was an actress of some sort.

Sidney

“Or we can flip a coin,” Jason said. “Computer give me some pocket change.”

“Specify quantity and denomination,” the computer’s voice said.

“One quarter for the United States circa 1940,” Jason clarified as he held out his hand palm upward. A tiny silver disk appeared in his hand. Jason paused to examined it. He had never seen an American Washington Head quarter dollar outside a museum or a private collection before and he imagined that in this age they must be even more rare. “Okay, heads we go to check out the taxi station and tails we go to the entertainment district,” he said before flicking it into the air with his thumb, catching in the air and slapping it down on the back of his left hand just like he had seen in the movies. He grinned at the others when he realized that he had succeeded in a film noir cliché on the first try. Then he glanced down and lifted his hand so they could see the coin. “Tails,” he announced. “We hit the entertainment district and see if we spot our girl. But the entertainment district covers a lot of area. Is there anyway to get more specific?”

IC: OOC: I really flipped a coin!

Jason Harn, XO

OOC: Does this mean everyone to include Poirot and Hastings are going to the Entertainment district?
