Lissi nodded with a slight smile. “Yes, Doc.” She laid her head back and let the nurse work on her. Between the drop of adrenalin and the pain killer, she dozed in and out. She woke slightly as the dermo regen was placed on her, but without anything to afterwards but wait, she dozed off again.

A gentle voice said “Lieutenant? Lieutenant? I need you to wake up. You’re finished. How do you feel?” and the nurse helped her sit up.

Medical

She sat up and stretched slightly before remembering her hand and drawing it back into her lap. Wriggling her fingers she smiled. “Tired and drained. But no more pain except in my head. Probably lack of food and not a lack of excitement.” She smiled and nodded towards the other beds. “How’s Simmons? He going to be ok?” There was genuine concern in her voice as she moved to swing her legs over the side of the bed, all ready to go and check on him herself.

The nurse smiled and put a hand on the Engineer. “Whoa whoa whoa… not till the Doctir says you can move around. He’s currently with Ensign Simmons and will be here shortly.”

A moment later a figure emerged from the shadows of the darkened medical space. Abel looked at her and smiled. “Ah, good to see you awake, Lieutenant.” and he pulled a PaDD from his coat pocket and made a few notes as he looked at the scanner. Setting it aside on the bed, he lifted her injured hand up and looked and then ran her through a series of range of motion and strength tests. “So how does it feel?”

She moved her hand and shook her head. “No pain. I can feel a bit of stiffness, but I’m sure that’s normal.” She watched him for a moment. “How’s Simmons?” She touched his arm to make him stop a moment. “Abel, please… is he gonna be ok?”

He put his hand on hers and smiled and said “He’s fine. Recovering nicely. He has a new synthetic lens in his left eye, but that is all the lasting damage. You can go see him, if you like. Just dont let him raise his head for a bit.” He motioned back into the shadows. “Sorry for the lights. It’s two o’clock in the morning.” and he laughed.

Lissi let out a sigh of relief that even surprised her. “Thank you.” His hand on hers made her feel better. “I’ll see him in a moment. You said two in the morning? Why’d you let me sleep so long? Was something else happening this evening?” She smiled softly. “My guess is you haven’t eaten, have you?” She looked at him with her head cocked slightly as if she was daring him to say otherwise.

“I have. And you needed the rest, you were in shock. Now go see Simmons and then go to sleep. I will come by Engineering tomorrow to see how you are faring, ok?”

Abel, CMO

Lissi looked at him a long moment then nodded. “I will. And I think I owe you dinner, again.” She laughed and stood up. Thanks again, Abel. It means a lot.” She kissed him on the cheek near his lips, aware others may see. “I’ll look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Get some sleep as well, Abel. Please…” She reluctantly pulled her arm away and moved to the door to go see Simmons.
